2014 – Thought For The Day

DSCN6944

“You grab onto happiness with two hands, darling. Life’s all about the journey. You remember that. ”
Deborah Lytton, Jane In Bloom

2014 promises to be a good one, but then life is never certain. At the last moment we always get a surprise. It can be a really good one but then again it could be a really nasty one.

All we can do is be prepared for every possible outcome.

As St Augustine said, the bad things are there to ensure that we appreciate the good things. Sadness to heighten the joy, and the trials for accomplishments.

I know it is really hard sometimes to fathom these but we have just to put our faith in the righteousness of God.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

  1. Each of us has an image of what we think we are or what we should be, and that image, that picture, entirely prevents us from seeing ourselves as we actually are.
    – Krishnamurti

  2. Men are not to be judged by their looks, habits, and appearances; but by the character of their lives and conversations, and by their works.
    —L’Estrange.

  3. You must personally accept the responsibility of improving your own life.
    – Chogyam Trungpa

    ……
I quite like this quote. It is like a resounding slap to one’s self-indulgence and self pity.

  4. True freedom exists in our minds, beyond God or Buddh.
In every moment, true wisdom must be freshly created.
    – Taisen Deshimaru

I think what he is saying is what science is supposed to be about.

  5. You can take no credit for beauty at sixteen. But if you are beautiful at sixty, it will be your soul’s own doing.
    ~Marie Stopes

    …..
I love this quote. At 16 you have beautiful skin, no wrinkles, no shadows of worries, no grey hairs, no age spots through sun damage. You still have it all.

At 60 you have everything that could go wrong in your body and appearance to contend with. But if you manage to stay fetching, then you are really beautiful.

  6. You wander from room to room hunting for the diamond necklace that is already around your neck!
    – Djalal Ad-Din Rumi
    ………….
    Love this quote.
I suppose you can interpret this quote the way you want it.

My own take is that we look and look for THAT thing in so many places, forgetting to stop and check that we have actually found it or we have it all along!

    Yes love it!

  7. Joy come like the grass in the field springing there
Without the mere toil of attention and care.
They come of themselves like a star in the sky
And the brighter they shine when the cloud passes by.
    – John Clare

  8. To carry care to bed is to sleep with a pack on your back.
    — Haliburton.

    …..
Sometimes it is unavoidable to sleep or rather go to bed with a lot in your mind. Sleep often won’t come and you end up twisting and turning in bed and getting no rest at all.

  9. HAPPY FRIENDSHIP DAY! HOPE EVERYONE CELEBRATES TODAY MAKING USE OF THE DAY’S FULL MEANING!!!

He is a friend indeed who proves himself a friend in need.—Plautus.

Thine own friend, and thy father’s friend, forsake not.—Proverbs 27:10.

To God, thy country, and thy friend be true.—Vaughan.

There is no man so friendless but that he can find a friend sincere enough to tell him disagreeable truths.—Lytton.

A friendship that makes the least noise is very often the most useful; for which reason I should prefer a prudent friend to a zealous one.—Addison.

A slender acquaintance with the world must convince every man that actions, not words, are the true criterion of the attachment of friends; and that the most liberal professions of good-will are very far from being the surest marks of it.—George Washington.

No friend’s a friend till he shall prove a friend.—Beaumont and Fletcher.

The qualities of your friends will be those of your enemies,—cold friends, cold enemies; half friends, half enemies; fervid enemies, warm friends.—Lavater.

Purchase no friends by gifts; when thou ceasest to give such will cease to love.—Fuller.

The difficulty is not so great to die for a friend as to find a friend worth dying for.—Henry Home.

Real friendship is a slow grower, and never thrives unless engrafted upon a stock of known and reciprocal merit.—Chesterfield.

There is nothing more becoming any wise man, than to make choice of friends, for by them thou shalt be judged what thou art: let them therefore be wise and virtuous, and none of those that follow thee for gain; but make election rather of thy betters, than thy inferiors.—Sir Walter Raleigh.

  10. THERE is nothing in this world which a resolute man, who exerts himself, cannot attain.
    ~ Somadeva

    …………..
    What an inspirational quote!!!

From now on, I shall be resolute! 😉

  11. Make it a rule of life never to regret and never look back. Regret is an appalling waste of enery; you can’t build on it: it is only good for wallowing in.
    – Katherine Mansfield

    1. This is so true. Often some people take it upon themselves to withhold something from you to save you from worry, hurt, pain and other negative feelings. But lies have a way of growing or multiplying until everyone is consumed with it and left with no way out.

Being economical with the truth is lying.

      Lies will out one day!

  12. Become a possibilitarian. No matter how dark things seem to be or actually are, raise your sights, and see possibilities – always see them, for they’re always there.
    – Norman Vincent Peale

  13. Success has many fathers, failure is an orphan.
    – English Proverb

    ………….
This is very true, has been proven time and again.

The proverb means that when you are at the pinnacle of success, everyone wants to be involved with your accomplishment and success. However if you fail, no ones to know or be involved in great length.

  14. “There may be times when we are powerless to prevent injustice, but there must never be a time when we fail to protest.”
    – Elie Wiesel, writer, Nobel laureate (b. 1928)

  15. “When the seagulls follow the trawler, it is because they think sardines will be thrown into the sea.”
    – Eric Cantona
    ………
This thought of the day originally by the footballer Eric Cantona, who became known for his deep sayings, was quoted by Shia LaBeouf in a press conference in Germany for his new film Nymphomaniac, which is apparently full of gratitious sex. Shia allegedly came out with the quote when asked about his sex scene, afterwards he walked out.
He was then later seen wearing a plastic bag covering his head.

  16. It’s never too late to have a happy childhood.
    ~Berke Breathed
    ………..

This sentiment gets to me. It is true. We should always have some childlike view on things, mind you not childish but childlike. It is with the eyes of child that we can view things more clearly. It is like having a fresh eye.
As grown up, we tend to get bogged down with life and the unnecessary evil of earning a living 😉
So every opportunity, try to have a playtime, afterall all work and no play make one a dull person!!!

  17. “We are all here for some special reason. Stop being a prisoner of your past. Become the architect of your future.”
    – Robin Sharma

    ………….
This is another inspirational reminder that we can change our future by how we feel and go about things.

  18. We were in a bistro in Finchley Road, NW3 London yesterday having a late lunch when I started rummaging into our shopping bags. I found this heart stone and put in my hands and told Peter as a birthday present to myself I will always grab happiness by the balls with both hands.

I was puzzled when Peter started laughing uproariously disturbing the sedate and peaceful atmosphere of the cafe. I asked him what was so funny and he said “not in public!”

    I still did not understand.

Then it dawned on me about those childish innuendos, double meaning.

Which finally reminded me of a A Ken Dodd song called Happiness

    Ah piness, ah piness

The greatest thing that I possess….

Finally got Peter’s merriment as referring to the male genitals. 😉

    ………………………………………..

Anyway before I got destructed, happiness is a choice over grief and sadness. This birthday, I am choosing happiness and my little heart stone will remind me of it whenever I wobble.

  19. Grow old with me!  The best is yet to be.
    ~ Robert Browning
    ……..

    robert-and-elizabeth-barrett-browning
Robert Browning was one romantic guy. He had to be, his wife was so good with words too.

How do I love thee? Let me count the ways…..

  20. Age is a high price to pay for maturity.
    ~Tom Stoppard

    Thought of the Day
    28 January 2014

    ………………

Don’t I know it. But thankgoodness my maturity grows perpendicular with my age of 29! (Still living in a dreamworld where I am forever 29! LOL)

  21. Pain is inevitable. Suffering is optional.
    ~M. Kathleen Casey

    Thought of the Day
    20 January 2014
    ————

Pain is indeed inevitable. Everyone will feel pain whether it is physical, emotional, psychological etc. The question is that how long should we let pain rules our lives? Must we suffer? Should we turn the pain into suffering?

  22. LIFE:

Rejoice with your family in the beautiful land of life!
    ~Albert Einstein

    Thought of the Day
    15 January 2014

This is a rather beautiful quote.

Sometimes we take our family for granted. Perhaps we always think that they are always going to be there so it is allowed to pick them and then drop them anytime. We often forget that our very raison d’etre is our family.

As Einstein said we must rejoice with our family while there is still time. Life is one capricious lady
