Over the next few weeks we will probably posting a lot of items such as pictures, stories and little tidbits about Liverpool.

We enjoyed our tour of Liverpool so much.  A must see place, so much to see and experience.  I advise to wear flats for a more convenient and healthier meandering of the city centre.  I am pleased to report that most of the attractions are closed together.

The above statue ensemble of The Beatles was a popular tourists and visitors attraction.  Many wanted to take photos, as we did, and also take selfies with Paul, George, Ringo and John.

We were busy photographing everything that we were late joining the ‘talk’ about The Beatles.

We heard though that Ringo Starr used to live at Liverpool 8, an area in Liverpool which used to be notorious for its poverty and vandalism.

Apparently Ringo when living in Liverpool never had an indoor toilet.  He was from a very poor family.

It just goes to show that when Lady Luck smiles at you, she also grins and have a laugh.  This is so true in Ringo’s case.  He was a replacement drummer for the band originally occupied by Stuart Sutcliffe and even Pete Best.  Ringo was not the best drummer in the world but he joined the band just before it took off stratospherically.

In an interview, Ringo said that he did not really miss anything in Liverpool. 🙂  However, he made used of Liverpool 8 and even made an album about it.  The number 8 is inscribed in the heel of his shoe in his statue.

Regarding John Lennon, his statue is clasping a few acorns.  It appears this has something to do with his and Yoko Ono’s hope for world peace.

Apparently John and Yoko sent a couple of acorns to each of the 123 world leaders in the spring of 1969.  They hoped that the acorns are planted for world peace.

Our tour guide said that only two world leaders accepted the challenge.  They were Golda Meir of Israel and Pierre Trudeau of Canada.

Please, Please Me, The Beatles first hit in England!

Autumn Leaves

As autumn grips us further into its depths, the leaves on trees are changing colours into vibrant pink, red, orange, purple, yellow and brown.

And then they start to fall.

Probably that is why autumn is also called the fall because leaves fall down into the ground. Doh!

There were plenty of fallen leaves that had been blown into our front garden that came from the avenue of trees in our street.

I was going to try to sweep them up today but the weather turned really nasty. It was so blowy and windy; it was not very pleasant to go out so I thought I should postpone my rather industrious idea of leaves clearing for another day,  to a more subdued day – weatherwise.

When we went to take our little Diesel for a walk, Peter and I noticed immediately that the front garden was amazingly clear of the leaves and any other debris.

It was the wind. It blew the leaves away from our garden, yey. And I was  moaning and griping too about the strong wind! huh!

Thank you wind!!!

Speaking of leaves, I remember that we used to play a game when I was still quite young in the Philippines. It was some sort of leaves snap, a matching game.

We would all go gather as many different leaves that we can get in secret and then we would sit around in circle and then try to match each other’s stock of leaves. The one that has the most unmatched leaves wins!

I know!!! It is so exciting!!! 😉 😉 😉 Beats any computer game! LOL

You should see the neighbour’s garden, it was like a swarm of ravenous caterpillars had a proper good feast!

Man-made or rather children-made fall/autumn does happen in the Philippines! LOL

We love the leaves of the gumamela (hibiscus) because you can pulp it and add a bit of water to it and you can have an organic blow bubbles syrup, no need to nick the washing liquid from the kitchen, but then again we do not have washing liquids then, at that time a long, long time ago in the Philippines,  we had bars of soap like Perla, Mr Clean, and Ajax for household cleaning while we used bars of Palmolive, Camay and Safeguard for bathing!  Having said that, it became a common knowledge that the laundry soap, Perla, was the best treatment for acne!  I did try Perla once or twice but thank goodness, I was really never prone to acne!  I can’t tell whether Perla worked but then again, probably it did because I did not get many blemishes! Hmmm

Sorry for this meandering nostalgia, I was supposed to talk about leaves, anyway I tried to youtube search a song about leaves and I was pleasantly surprise with this song by  the brilliant Eric Clapton.  He sings to us a very autumnly song called surprise, surprise ‘Autumn Leaves’

Have a lovely autumn everyone, wherever you may be!

Blue Skies

There is blue sky up above today. It is wonderfully clear and bright. No absolute reason why I am not in the garden so I shall of course be decamping to the garden in a minute, after I have posted some spectacular photos from the lenses of PH Morton accompanied by the dulcet and toe-tapping tune of dear Ella Fitzgerald’s Blue Skies – what else!!! LOL 😉

Enjoy folks, I hope wherever you are, you are seeing blue sky too.

Blue skies
Smiling at me
Nothing but blue skies
Do I see

Singing a song
Nothing but bluebirds
All day long

Never saw the sun shining so bright
Never saw things going so right
Noticing the days hurrying by
When you’re in love, my how they fly

Blue days
All of them gone
Nothing but blue skies
From now on

I never saw the sun shining so bright
Never saw things going so right
Noticing the days hurrying by
When you’re in love, my how they fly

Blue days
All of them gone
Nothing but blue skies
From now on

Elvis Presley – The King

I don’t know anything about music.  In my line you don’t have to.

Listening to Elvis below and the scream reverberating from over excited fans, I want to shout and join in too. I am afraid this is what Elvis’ effect to his fans even to these days.

No wonder, Elvis is the most impersonated person ever. (Marilyn Monroe, probably is the second.) No wonder there are some that refuse to believe Elvis had died; he is still being seen here, there and everywhere!

Long after his death, Elvis is still big business. Time and again, his music is released with his image superimposed to duet with other musicians of today.

One of my greatest wish is to be married in Las Vegas by Elvis. Who knows it might still happen!!! LOL

Ben Whishaw As Freddie Mercury

Freddie Mercury

Freddie Mercury

After the debacle with Sacha Baron Cohen, who was the first choice to play Freddie Mercury, it has been announced that Skyfall’s Ben Whishaw is to play Freddie in the upcoming Queen biopic.

The film will be directed by Dexter Fletcher of the children’s tv The Press Gang with his then real life sweetheart Julia Sawalha.  Of course he has appeared in many other films and television series. As much as Sacha Baron Cohen has a look likeness to Freddie, I think Ben will be great as he has now proven his acting ability.

Yes, I can almost see him now as Freddie.  I was a bit concerned when it was touted that Harry Potter’s Daniel Radcliffe would be Freddie! eeckkk

November Rain = Guns N’ Roses

Just turned November and I remember this song by one of my favourite rock band, Guns N’ Roses. The video is very powerful which compliment a strong rock ballad.

Nothing last forever….. very appropriate for the penultimated month of the year.

“November Rain”

When I look into your eyes
I can see a love restrained
But darlin’ when I hold you
Don’t you know I feel the same

‘Cause nothin’ lasts forever
And we both know hearts can change
And it’s hard to hold a candle
In the cold November rain

We’ve been through this such a long long time
Just tryin’ to kill the pain

But lovers always come and lovers always go
An no one’s really sure who’s lettin’ go today
Walking away

If we could take the time
to lay it on the line
I could rest my head
Just knowin’ that you were mine
All mine
So if you want to love me
then darlin’ don’t refrain
Or I’ll just end up walkin’
In the cold November rain

Do you need some time…on your own
Do you need some time…all alone
Everybody needs some time… on their own
Don’t you know you need some time…all alone

I know it’s hard to keep an open heart
When even friends seem out to harm you
But if you could heal a broken heart
Wouldn’t time be out to charm you

Sometimes I need some time…on my own
Sometimes I need some time…all alone
Everybody needs some time… on their own
Don’t you know you need some time…all alone

And when your fears subside
And shadows still remain
I know that you can love me
When there’s no one left to blame
So never mind the darkness
We still can find a way
‘Cause nothin’ lasts forever
Even cold November rain

Don’t ya think that you need somebody
Don’t ya think that you need someone
Everybody needs somebody
You’re not the only one
You’re not the only one

Hugh Laurie – Unchain My Heart

Wow, this is way too cool. The ever talented Hugh Laurie is singing the blues.

He is touring right now. I might get is CD, Want it for Christmas! Yoohoo

Unchain My Heart

Unchain my heart, baby let me be
Unchain my heart ’cause you don’t care about me
You’ve got me sewn up like a pillow case
But you let my love go to waste so
Unchain my heart set me free

Unchain my heart, baby let me go
Unchain my heart, ’cause you don’t love me no more
Ev’ry time I call you on the phone
Some fella tells me that you’re not at home so
Unchain my heart set me free

I’m under you spell like a man in a trance
But I know darn well that I don’t stand a chance

Unchain my heart, let me go away
Unchain my heart, you worry me night and day
Why led me lead a life of misery
When you don’t care a bag of beans for me
So unchain my heart and set me free
