Spandau Ballet

Spandau Ballet

True, Spandau Ballet were gods to me during the 80s.

I loved them so much. To Cut a Long Story Short I lost my mind!

I have to thank God that Duran Duran existed at the same time for my sister, Marilou.  To be honest,  I Don’t Need This Pressure On competing with my sister’s adoration of the same band.  Tony Hadley, Gary Kemp, Martin Kemp, John Keeble and Steve Norman of SB were mine.  🙂  My sister and I had a very good Communication.  She told me news about Duran Duran and I told her about Spandau.

There are also times when she saw merchandise of SB, she would generously buy them for me.  My sister was a Lifeline.

The 80s was Gold.    The New Romantics were in.  A lot of great bands were breeding in the UK and the US was producing the likes of Madonna and Cyndi Lauper.

Though Spandau Ballet did not make it really big in America, they were so popular in the Philippines.  Highly Strung girls, like me, would scream our head off when one of their songs were played.

Sadly seeing Spandau Ballet nowadays would be Through The Barricade, this is from my point of view as a purist.  Tony Hadley, the band’s vocalist has left the group, again.  It’s going Round and Round. Who knows, Tony might rejoin again in the near future. This is my Instinction.

David Bowie A Legend Passes

David Bowie A Legend Passes

David Bowie

David Bowie, the legend had died yesterday at the age of 69, still relatively young and gone too soon by 21st Century norms.

David was a man of Past, Present & the Future.

You could say he was also  A Man for All Seasons.

His legacy will live on.

He was a London lad  like me and only nine years older.

I grew up to David”s music; from his beginings as a pop star to becoming a well respected world renowned culture icon.

He influenced modern music & videos, particularly the New Romantic era of the 1970s/1980s.

To see him on stage with another legend and musical genius Freddie Mercury was sublime.

My favourite songs of his were Space Oddity, Ashes to Ashes (cool video), Spiders From Mars and Jean Genie.( I sing terribly to my wife!)

He easily adopted new personas such as Ziggy Stardust, for which became famous for and much copied.

He was also a decent actor. I enjoyed his movie ‘The Man Who Fell to Earth‘ seeing it twice as well an 80s classic, The Labyrinth. 🙂

He cornered the market in style.

David was flamboyant and cleverly used androgyny in different personas he created with his music which influenced next generations of musicians and singers.

His final song and atmospheric video  Lazarus (the title says it all) released on his 69th Birthday showed how David wanted to go out of this world, say Goodbye…His way.

Magnificent. groundbreaking and unique all the way. His own epitaph, his own way.

The world is a little less colourful now that he is gone.

Farewell Major Tom & Thanks for the music and cool videos…and being you.

Enjoy the Great Gig in the Sky…Starman

Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep – Middle of the Road

chirpyI first heard this song at Maureen’s birthday party a couple of weeks ago. It was actually the last song played at her party. At first, I was not sure as it was the first time I’ve heard it. But it was that kind of song that get into your brain whether you want to or not.

So before I knew it, I was humming it like mad. Thank goodness my husband knew the song and helped me look for it in youtube.

And here it is.

Happy Friday, People!!!

Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep

Where’s your mama gone?
(Where’s your mama gone?)
Little baby, Don
(Little baby, Don)

Where’s your mama gone?
(Where’s your mama gone?)
Far, far away

Where’s your papa gone?
(Where’s your papa gone?)
Little baby, Don
(Little baby, Don)

Where’s your papa gone?
(Where’s your papa gone?)
Far, far away, far, far away

Last night I heard my mama singing a song
Ooh we, chirpy, chirpy, cheep, cheep
Woke up this morning and my mama was gone
Ooh we, chirpy, chirpy, cheep, cheep
Chirpy, chirpy, cheep, cheep, chirp

Where’s your mama gone?
(Where’s your mama gone?)
Little baby, Don
(Little baby, Don)

Where’s your mama gone?
(Where’s your mama gone?)
Far, far away

Where’s your papa gone?
(Where’s your papa gone?)
Little baby, Don
(Little baby, Don)

Where’s your papa gone?
(Where’s your papa gone?)
Far, far away, far, far away

Last night I heard my mama singing a song
Ooh we, chirpy, chirpy, cheep, cheep
Woke up this morning and my mama was gone
Ooh we, chirpy, chirpy, cheep, cheep
Chirpy, chirpy, cheep, cheep, chirp

(Let’s go now)
Last night I heard my mama singing a song
Ooh we, chirpy, chirpy, cheep, cheep
Woke up this morning and my mama was gone
Ooh we, chirpy, chirpy, cheep, cheep
Chirpy, chirpy, cheep, cheep, chirp

(Altogether now)
Last night I heard my mama singing a song

Just The Way U R – Bruno Mars

Good Saturday morning to you all.

From the bedroom window, I can see the sun trying so hard to come out from some really persistent dark clouds.

Now and again the sun is winning its battle and this is truly amazing.

I feel bright and hopeful and what better to push through the day than Bruno Mars’s Just the Way You Are. Yes I shall merrily and fortitudely soldier on today just by being just the way I am as;  I am beautiful and I am amazing! LOL

Happy weekends everyone.

Wow, it is starting well already, my dearest hubby just brought me up a breakfast in bed.

Oh her eyes, her eyes
Make the stars look like they’re not shining
Her hair, her hair
Falls perfectly without her trying

She’s so beautiful
And I tell her every day

Yeah I know, I know
When I compliment her
She wont believe me
And its so, its so
Sad to think she don’t see what I see

But every time she asks me do I look okay
I say

When I see your face
There’s not a thing that I would change
Cause you’re amazing
Just the way you are
And when you smile,
The whole world stops and stares for awhile
Cause girl you’re amazing
Just the way you are

Her lips, her lips
I could kiss them all day if she’d let me
Her laugh, her laugh
She hates but I think its so sexy

She’s so beautiful
And I tell her every day

Oh you know, you know, you know
Id never ask you to change
If perfect is what you’re searching for
Then just stay the same

So don’t even bother asking
If you look okay
You know I say

When I see your face
There’s not a thing that I would change
Cause you’re amazing
Just the way you are
And when you smile,
The whole world stops and stares for awhile
Cause girl you’re amazing
Just the way you are

The way you are
The way you are
Girl you’re amazing
Just the way you are

When I see your face
There’s not a thing that I would change
Cause you’re amazing
Just the way you are
And when you smile,
The whole world stops and stares for awhile
Cause girl you’re amazing
Just the way you are

AHA! Dr Who Animated!

I saw a link to this animation via Facebook. It is genius. The short animation captured the ongoing drama in Dr Who.

I still think that Chris Eccleston is the best Dr, but have to admit that each of the Doctors did bring something different which only enhanced the fabric of Dr Who’s history.

The animation is a rework of the stunning single “Take on Me” by the Norwegian’s 80s band AHA, fronted by Morten Harkett.

Things Dolly Says:

“I am not offended by all the dumb blonde jokes because I know that I’m not dumb. I also know that I am not blonde!”
– Dolly Parton
…..
I do have big tits. Always had ’em – pushed ’em up, whacked ’em around. Why not make fun of ’em? I’ve made a fortune with ’em.
– Dolly Parton
…..
If I see something sagging, dragging or bagging, I get it sucked, tucked or plucked.
– Dolly Parton
…..

If you talk bad about country music, it’s like saying bad things about my momma.  Them’s fightin’ words.
– Dolly Parton
…..
I have got little feet because nothing grows in the shade.
– Dolly Parton
…..

I had to get rich so I could afford to sing like I was poor again.
– Dolly Parton

I hope people realise that there is a brain underneath the hair and a heart underneath the boobs.

It costs a lot of money to look this cheap.

Yeah I flirt, I’m not blind and I’m not dead.
– Dolly Parton
…..
You would be surprised how much it costs to look this cheap!

The song below is written by the prolific singer and song-writer, Dolly Parton. The version that we know best is the one made popular by the late Whitney Houston, from her film The Bodyguard.

Dolly’s version however has its own charm.

This Guy is In love with you – Herb Alpert

herbThis song is so romantic, a classic love song. It doesn’t age, it is as tinglingly romantic and passionate as the time it first came out to blow the romantics at heart.

This is certainly today’s LOVE SONG pick!

Enjoy!

HERB ALPERT

“This Guy’s In Love With You”
(Hal David/Burt Bacharach)

You see this guy, this guy’s in love with you
Yes I’m in love who looks at you the way I do
When you smile I can tell it know each other very well
How can I show you I’m glad I got to know you ’cause
I’ve heard some talk they say you think I’m fine
This guy’s in love and what I’d do to make you mine
Tell me now is it so don’t let me be the last to know
My hands are shakin’ don’t let my heart keep breaking ’cause
I need your love, I want your love
Say you’re in love and you’ll be my guy, if not I’ll just die
Tell me now is it so don’t let me be the last to know
My hands are shakin’ don’t let my heart keep breaking ’cause
I need your love, I want your love
Say you’re in love and you’ll be my girl, if not I’ll just die

Holding Back the Years – Simply Red

This song is part of our RED LETTER DAY! to celebrate my BIRTHDAY and oh the Chinese New Year – Year of the Horse.
Red Banner

Holding Back the Years – Simply Red

Holding back the years
Thinking of the fear I’ve had so long
When somebody hears
Listen to the fear that’s gone
Strangled by the wishes of pater
Hoping for the arms of mater
Get to me the sooner or later

Holding back the years
Chance for me to escape from all I’ve known
Holding back the tears
Cause nothing here has grown
I’ve wasted all my tears
Wasted all those years
And nothing had the chance to be good
Nothing ever could yeah

I’ll keep holding on
I’ll keep holding on
I’ll keep holding on
I’ll keep holding on
So tight

I’ve wasted all my tears
Wasted all of those years
And nothing had the chance to be good
Cause nothing ever could oh yeah

I’ll keep holding on
I’ll keep holding on
I’ll keep holding on
I’ll keep holding on
Holding, holding, holding

That’s all I have today
It’s all I have to say

Justin Bieber: Zero to Hero @ Philippines

640_2013_12_10_17_41_49

Justin hooping with Tacloban kid!

For a time Justin Bieber is persona non grata in the Philippines because he favoured Marquez over Pacquiao. LOL

His visit to Tacloban is a master stroke in PR.  Suddenly Justin from being out of favour becomes the flavour of the month.   Well done Justin.

And he comes across as really genuine too.  He even played basketball with Tacloban kids, he might have given a mini concert too, plus he started a charity helping the victims and he could be seen hugging deliriously happy kids.  He was really hands-on which did the trick.

Bravo.  I am sure the dormant Beliebers are going to wake up fast!

Twerking like Miley Cyrus

miley-cyrus-2013-vma-tongue-out-1024x573

Twerking like Miley Cyrus

I think Miley is sexy and fun but it is time for her to put some clothes on. She’s made her point. We know now that she is the antithesis to her television persona, Hanna Montana.

Yes Miley has grown up into a really attractive and sexy girl. But it is really boring now to see her clothed next to nothing all the time! Being a rebel without a cause has been done to death! (Sorry, James Dean)

She has a lovely voice, she should focus on that, otherwise people will ignore the fact that she is a very versatile and talented girl and think only of a girl who was trying too hard and an irritant; overlooking her talent altogether!

This is now a case of when too much is just too much; please enough is enough! Calm down Miley!
