Fringe Benefits, the Bangs

Having grown up in the Philippines, I call the fringe as bangs.  The fringe or bangs suits almost everyone.  It can shape your face, it can hide a multitude of sins like small forehead or wrinkles. With the right style of fringe, you can lose years of your age 🙂

Being a very young miss in the late 70s, when rollers are the height of hair styling, I have learnt that rolling your bangs can be fatal to your hair-style.  Overly rolled fringe is a no-no.  It has that outer-spacey look 🙂

Deciding to have a fringe can be quite a feat or NOT.  Start off with the longer bangs, below your eyes.  When you have gotten used to it, then shorten it a little bit until you have a style suitable to your face or look you wanted to achieve.

Woke up and having a bad hair day?

Try adding a teaspoon of baking soda to your shampoo.

When to stop colouring grey hair?

When and why is totally up to you but as a guideline, when your hair is 80 percent grey then it might be better to surrender to the greys! 🙂

Dyed Hair Care:

Tips from Boots’ Health & Beauty Magazine

To keep your newly coloured hair in a vibrant and tip-top condition and the new hues to last longer here are some tips.

  • Avoid daily or frequent hair washing as the water dilutes the pigments, thus the colour fades away faster.  Instead invest in a dry shampoo to keep the hair clean or remove the oiliness.
  • Do not use very hot water to wash your hair as it relaxes the hair pigment.  Wash with cooling temperature of just warm.
  • Now that the sun is out, wear a hat.  The UVA & UVB from the sun cause the hair cuticle to be damaged and this in turn cause fading vibrancy of the hair.

Soft, Beautiful Hands

4323565-dwie-ręce-kobietThere are many movie stars who are so unbelievably gorgeous but only to be let down by their hands.  The hands can tell on you.

Soft, Beautiful Hands

Angelina Jolie, Madonna and Sarah Jessica Parker have bony and veiny hands.  These probably have to do with their fluctuating weight and in Madonna’s case, her over-exercising.

At a certain age, the  hands become naturally drier and liver spots also known as age spots start to appear at the back of the hands.

Look after your hands and it will look after you.  We owe it to our hands that they are properly cared for.  Often we take them for granted; forgetting how versatile they are, that they complete us as human beings. No other species have”hands’ that are wonderfully made and perfectly formed.  😉

There are many secrets to beautiful hands.  Some of these secrets were regimen practised by many previous generations.  Some are old wives tales and yet some are so obvious, it is overlooked.

Hands that Warm the Heart

Here are my favourites:

1. Wearing of rubber gloves to do the housework, especially washing up, scrubbing surfaces, polishing using the hand, etc.

2. Have some oatmeals at the ready.  Once or twice a day, your hands should be rubbed with oatmeals.  It will whiten the hands as well as make them soft and flexible.

3. Roughened hands can be made softer by rubbing then with almond oil or olive oil before going to bed.

4. To moisturise the hands, generously apply a good moisturising cream in bed, wear glove overnight.  The next morning, the hands will be soft, smooth and moisturised.

5. The length and shape of the nails  should exactly correspond with the tips of the fingers.

6. Biting the nails should be avoided as a dirty and disagreeable habit, and one utterly destructive to their beauty, strength, and usefulness.

7. To remove stains and discolorations of the nails, a little lemon juice or vinegar and water is the best application.

8. The skin, as a rule, should never be cut, pared, picked or torn off, as is commonly done, and the less it is meddled with, otherwise than in the way just mentioned, the better.

Strawberry Foot Scrub Recipe

DSCN6217

As it is summer, strawberries are not at their dearest.  So why not pamper yourself and your feet with strawberries and luxuriate in their opulence.  Afterall, the feet work very hard to support us all day.  They are often neglected but I think, they need tender loving care now and again.

And a good start is a foot scrub.

Below is an easy recipe for a foot scrub.

Strawberry Foot Scrub Recipe

Ingredients

  • 8-10 ripe strawberries

  • 2 tbsp olive oil

  • 3 tbsp sea salt

Method of Preparation:

  • Mashed the strawberries with the olive oil.
  • Stir in the sea salt.  Mix thoroughly.
Application:
  • Apply the scrub to your feet.  Massage to the areas which are particularly rough such as the heels and the ball of the feet. Work it.  Expoliate.  Indulge those feet.
  • Wash the feet and then dry.
  • Do not forget to apply foot cream for a thorough pampering.

Wash & Shampoo, the Lowdown

I thought it was only me; I find using the same shampoo over and over, no matter how good it is, make my hair lifeless.

I read somewhere from some hairdresser site that the hair gets used to the shampoo and once this happens, the hair would not be responding to the bounce and shine that shampoos are supposed to provide.

I myself have a stock of different shampoos which I alternate using.

There are plenty of celebrities who think that washing and shampooing hair is over-rated.  I think I once read somewhere that Nigella Lawson only washes her hair twice a week.

The young actress, Shailene Woodley said in an interview that she only shampoos her hair once a month.  She likes her hair oily.
