Dingdong Dantes and Marian Rivera tied the knot just before 2014 blew its final breath.
The tandem of Dingdong and Marian has been brangelinalised into their very own DongYan moniker! 🙂
The wedding was lavish, to say the least, fit for a king and queen of prime time television in the Philippines, where 100 million, and counting, viewers are regularly glued to various teleserye (television drama series) where this couple reigns supreme.
Marian Rivera wore an impossibly gorgeous wedding gown by an up and coming Dubai-based Filipino fashion designer, Michael Cinco, who designs clothes for the moneyed Hollywood celebrities.
The wedding was the talk of the town as well as the cyberworld for its mega extravaganza and unbelievable extravagance.
The wedding was attended by PNoy himself – the incumbent president of the Philippines. One thing to take into consideration is that, PNoy is apparently a very, very busy man. Afterall he is THE numero uno servant of more than 100 million Filipinos, who are in varying degrees of wealth and much poverty. PNoy was so busy dealing with ways in how to make more money for the country, for thieves in the government to make merry with. LOL.
But the DongYan matrimonial jubilation was not something to be missed. They are a powerful couple, very influential. Holding onto their coat tails can only be for the better. Anyway, PNoy knows this and knows where his priorities lie and therefore, despite his busy schedule he had to attend and be one of the shiny, happy people partaking the generosity of the couple and their sponsors.
As we can now know a few weeks later, PNoy went back to being really busy again that he cannot attend the arrival/repatriation of the bodies of 42 slained policemen, who valiantly fought the insurgents in Mindanao. PNoy was much too busy instead celebrating the opening of a new plant of Mitsubishi, somewhere in Laguna.
King & Queen of Philippine Prime Time TV
The DongYan wedding may have created a world record for the hugest, biggest wedding cake in the world, ever. The cake stood at 12 feet tall, certainly enough to sweeten the palates of the thousands of wedding attendees.
After the wedding DongYan enjoyed a romantic European honeymoon.
But even kings and queens have to surface and join the hoi polloi in the real world sometimes. And yes, Dingdong and Marian are back to doing what they do best – teleserye!
Dingdong has just started the GMA drama series called Pari ‘Koy (Priest Koy), where he will be playing a Catholic priest (ideally a celibate priest 😉 lol) And wait for this, Marian is doing The Rich Man’s daughter, and by early account, sweet, fragrant Marian will be entering the world of lesbianism. hehehe
celibacy and lesbianism for the newly married king and queen of Philippine prime time tv?!!! Good choices or more Freudian in nature?!!!
There is nothing better than a good love story. The sadder the ending the more iconic the love story seems to turn up.
As a homage to St Valentine’s, we shall make a list of the most romantic love duos of all time. The list by the way is not in any order. And if you have any suggestion that you wanted added, do let us know!

Punch and Judy are from a puppet show, which is mostly performed in British seaside. Punch and Judy are often joined by various puppets like a policeman and a crocodile or something.
Anyway as homage to Punch and Judy, I am posting a favourite song, a throwback from childhood called funny enough, Punch and Judy Show. LOL
The song by Cascades, an American band, is so poignant and full of pathos for Punch who allows his Judy to treat him like a fool or a punch bag in front of an audience. As much as Punch would like to get away from Judy, he finds it excruciating to be without her.
Their dysfunctional relationship is a study in domestic violence and mental cruelty ; thank goodness, it is only a puppet show.
Punch & Judy Show – The Cascades
Everybody laughs to see Judy being mean to me Everybody here in town Knows that I’m just Judy’s clown
Oh every place we ever go Everybody seems to know Well, they know we’re just A punch and Judy show
Judy makes a fool of me Why can’t she just let me be Even though I know the score I keep coming back for more
I wish I knew why she acts this way We’re like puppets in a play Judy play that being cruel While must act the happy fool
Though I smile it hurts inside Even puppets have some pride I would leave her if I could If my heart were made of wood
So everyday we’ll give our show And it always hurts me so Yes, well always be A Punch and Judy
Always be A Punch And Judy Show (Punch And Judy Show) Punch And Judy Show (Punch And Judy Show)
Romeo & Juliet (1870) by Ford Madox Brown (1821–1893)
Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare is that archetypal tragic love story that resonates with everyone.
It follows the formula of a great iconic love story, where the lovers get together in the end for a brief moment and then forced to part ways in death or some tragic circumstances.
The story of Romeo and Juliet is about two beautiful young lovers who were born to be together but because their families were warring, they got caught in the middle. No way out for the young lovers but be together in death. How can you not feel the tragedy of Romeo and Juliet? How sad and horrific to watch the star-crossed lovers to die in each others arms knowing that it could and should have not happened?!!!
Popular quotes from Romeo & Juliet
What’s in a name? That which we call a rose By any other word would smell as sweet. (Juliet) … O Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou Romeo? (Juliet) … Good night, good night. Parting is such sweet sorrow, That I shall say good night till it be morrow. (Juliet) …
How can a man with a glorious voice singing a song about parents and their children behaves in such an appalling way! Sure you can’t help falling in love with anyone but it does not mean you have to action it. There is such a thing as self-control!
Freddie is way too predatory!
Freddie Aguilar has apparently fallen irrevocably in love with a girl barely out of her gym slip. May gatas pa sa labi.
Having seen the video of the young Lolita confessing her love for a man 44 years her senior, you can see that she is not the typical shy young, virginal girl. This girl, Jovi Gatdula, knows what she is getting into. She is gagging for a life of sex, drug and Rock & Roll 😉 even if it meant having sexual relation with someone old enough to be her grandfather.
Freddie Aguilar who is at 6o is in lust with a nubile underage girl is said to marry Jovi when she turns 18 in November next year. If I were her I just take the money and run! hehehe
Afterall a year is a long time. He might have fallen in love with someone younger as Jovy will be an old lady at 18 with a lot of experience by then. hahaha
Good luck to her. Hope she does not regret what she is getting into. Everyone around her seems to see only love in hazy peso signs. Her family is as good as sold her. Whilst his family is making sure to keep their Daddy happy to sing for more pesos. Love and money go like nuwang ken ulnas as we Ilocano would say! 😉
By the way, is Freddie not doing something illegal? Should he be cavorting with an underage girl? Shame on him!
Shame on Jovi Gatdula’s parents. They might as well be pushing their daughter to sex slavery!
I was just reading an article about Dawn French, a favourite of Peter and mine, a very funny comedienne. Anyway she said that she married Mark Bignell, an executive for a Drug and rehabilitation charity, because he played her a song by the Cocteau Twins called Song of the Siren. She knew right there and then that she found her man. Dawn said “You would fall in love if someone gave you that song.”
I asked Peter what love song would he play to me? He contemplated a little bit, really thinking about it because he know I love my music. Well after a few heartbeats, he said he’ll play me Cilla Black’s You’re My World”
That is so sweet. Wouldn’t you love a man like that? I am glad he is mine.
The Mayon volcano located in Albay, Legaspi City, in the Philippines is one of the natural wonders of the world. It is a major tourist attraction because of its perfect cone and its locality. Many have tried to climb to its peak, many were successful but now and again the Mayon would claim lives like those of unfortunate German tourists this year.
Its scenic beauty has spawn various legends. One of the many versions, my favourite one, is as follows:
The Legend of the Mayon Volcano
Once upon a time there lived a chieftain in Albay who had a beautiful daughter. The daughter was not only fair of face but had the sweetest disposition. She had the most radiant smile which she bestowed to everyone, young, old, poor and rich alike.
Despite her noble birth, she treated everyone equally because she was a very kind girl by nature. The people called her Magayon, meaning beautiful.
Her beauty and lovely countenance made her a very popular girl – the Crush ng Bayan during her time.
Suitors from far and wide had come to ask for her hand in marriage.
But Magayon had already lost her heart to a childhood friend, Matapang who was aptly named because he was very brave; an able swordman. He was also very charismatic with a handsome visage that girls and women in their village had a soft spot for him. Matapang, however, had only eyes for Magayon. Matapang was the son of Magayon’s father’s chief warrior.
Alas, just like any great love stories, this one did not run smooth either because in a neighbouring village lived a chieftain who was rich and powerful. He had a son, Maraut, whom he spoiled to the hilt and therefore the son grew into an overbearing, sneaky and furtive young man. What he wanted, he got or else there was hell to pay.
During a festivity, he saw the beautiful Magayon and decided he wanted her for himself. He told his father to arrange a marriage to Magayon.
Magayon’s father was given an offer that he can not refused, thus agreed to the marriage of Magayon to Maraut.
Magayon was inconsolable with grief. She ran to Matapang who was equally in despair.
They decided that the only recourse was to run away, it was risky but there was no other choice if they wanted to be together. They agreed to meet up later that day.
Unbeknownst to them, Maraut heard their plan. He had been stalking Magayon for quite some time.
Maraut advised Magayon’s father of the planned elopement.
When Magayon and Matapang met up that night, both the warriors of Magayon’s father and Maraut’s were ready and waiting. Matapang and Magayon ran as fast as they could but to no avail, Matapang went down when shot by an arrow; he died instantly. Poor Magayon ran on until she got entangled in some thorny bushes which was a nest of deadly snakes. She got bitten fatally.
She died in her grieving father’s arms. He buried her right there on the spot where she took her last breath, amidst the sudden thunders and lightnings.
In the morning, Magayon’s grave had grown into a mound with a perfect cone.
The people called this mound, Mayon after the beautiful Magayon.
