Episode 1 

This drama did not disappoint.  Han Suk Kyu is as charismatic as ever.  You just feel that you will be watching something wonderful and interesting.

And the first two episodes prove that.

Anyway, Teacher Kim was on a mission to recruit more surgeons for Doldum Hospital after his previous mentees have been recruited by charitable causes that provide medical services.  And Yoon Seo Jong had been asked to specialise abroad.

Teacher Kim found two, who are not currently at the top of their craft considering that these two were classmates and used to be rated the first and the second in their class or year in medical school.

Seo Woo Jin, was a brilliant and intuitive surgeon but became a pariah after turning as a whistleblower against the chief of the hospital he was working at.  He revealed the fraudulent dealings of the chief.

However, this made Seo Woo Jin to be shunned by the other medical staff.  They reckoned that you should never grass on your colleagues.

Due to this, Seo Woo Jin had become a temporary doctor and was only recruited by another hospital because of the lack of surgeons around.  However, he was given the ignominious task of only operating on hemorrhoids.

Despite this Seo Woo Jin remained proud which only riled the other medical staff.  They started spreading rumours that Seo Jin was also part-timing as a bar host, which is a sackable offense for indecency.  There was not a truth to the rumour but Seo Woo Jin just got tired of all the office politics.

Cha Eun-Jae was Seo Woo Jin’s classmate at medical school.  She was always challenging him and she ultimately came second to him because of her personal ‘psychological’ problem.  She was a competent surgeon but she vomits and faints when she sees a suturing and operation in progress.

To make herself feel more alert, she started taking tablets before surgery but the outcome was to send her in cold faint on the floor of the operating theatre.

She was told by her chief that she has two choices, a suspension or transfer to a provincial branch of the hospital which is the Doldam.

Not much choice, she went for Doldam.

Episode 2

The casting of Lee Sung Kyung and Ahn Hyo Seop as a potential romantic couple is inspired.  They have a lot of chemistry already.  They also match in utter gorgeousness.

Anyway, the above two were surprised that they both ended up in Doldam Hospital, which is almost the back of beyond compared to Georde Hospital where they both used to work.

And to add to this, they find the medical practice of Teacher Kim rather unorthodox, especially when their first patient was the very high up Minister of National Defense.

The Minister was on death’s door with most of his organs being shattered.  Seo Woo Jin, though ably assisted Teacher Kim during the operation, had to tackle him in his procedure of operating by gut instinct rather than relying on CT scan.

Teacher Kim had to tell Seo Woo Jin that the minister just becomes anyone of the patients who comes into the door of Doldom hospital.  They are treated to the best of the abilities of the staff.

During this rather bloody operation, Cha Eun Jae ended up running out of the theatre to throw up.

She later said that she ate something bad for lunch which made her sick.

Teacher Kim, however, did not mince his words and told her that he knows what was wrong with her.  He said that a surgeon who can’t abide surgery has no business being a doctor/surgeon.

Cha Eun Jae was ready to give up and leave Doldom when another new doctor, Yoon Ah Reum told her that Teacher Kim actually came to Georde Hospital and especially recruited Cha Eun Jae.

This changed Cha Eun Jae’s mind because she knew Teacher Kim is a genius and she was flattered that he thought much of her though he did not tell her.

The old foe is back and he is now the chairman of the hospital conglomerate.  He still holds a grudge against Teacher Kim so he sent a posse of doctors and medical staff to take over the care of the minister.

So exciting! The next episode, please!

Episode 3

The trailer was actually more exciting that this actual episode.

Dr Park Mink Gook was not that nasty.  In fact, he developed some respect for that taciturn Teacher Kim, who he saw saved the Minister of Defence, who was having a cardiac arrest, from the brink of death.

Despite minutes of cardiopulmonary resuscitation by Dr Seo Woo-Jin, the minister’s heart was resisting from doing its job.  So Teacher Kim did one of his unorthodox methods of opening the minister’s chest and Teacher Kim had to physically grab and squeeze the heart until it pulsated and the heartbeat goes back to normal.

Everyone looking was on bated breath, until the heart monitor advised that it has gone back to normal.

Everyone, including Teacher Kim, was telling Woo Jin afterward that he did a good job.

Woo Jin could not understand what good job he did but they told him that he kept the patient safe until Teacher Kim arrived.  He stood his ground against Dr Park.  Woo Jin did not allow himself to be bullied by Dr Park and his team to relinquish the Minister to their care.

Dr Park afterward commented to Teacher Kim why he was working at a nameless hospital when he is was the only triple board doctor in Korea.  It could not be because of money either as he does not get that kind of big money working as a suburb Doldam Hospital.

Teacher Kim said that Doldam is not a nameless hospital.  He was doing it for the patients.

Dr Park does not believe him. He thinks that there is no goodwill without a prize.  It must be one of the two:  Dr Kim was either crazy or a chronic liar.

Teacher Kim just ignored him, but not to the extent that he will not look up the background of Dr Park.  Teacher Kim found out that Dr Park has a prestigious background, he went to John Hopkins.

Meanwhile,  Woo Jin and Cha Eun Jae were having a moment.  Eun Jae said that she and Woo Jin were not friends, never been friends, but on the contrary, Woo Jin remembered it differently.  In college, they teamed up to study together.  he would help her on the practical side while she helps him with the written exam.  They were quite the comrades.  He allowed himself to be her specimen or victim for learning to inject, etc.

Episode 4

The Minister of Defense’s son finally got to Doldam and he was not very happy when he found out that the second surgery done to his father almost went wrong.

He became incandescent with rage when he was advised that this father was operated on the first time by Teacher Kim without the aid of a CT scan.

The team from Georde Hospital tried to hide the fact that the second surgery was recorded.  The video showed that it was their team that almost cost the life of the Minister.

Eun Jae heard the conversation by the team.  They saw her and tried to bribe her of a transfer back to Georde if she keeps her mouth shut about what she heard.

But Eun Jae was beginning to feel the good things that Teacher Kim was doing so she ensured that the son of the minister who found out that there was a recording and was now looking for it, become aware of the whereabouts of the recording.

Meanwhile, Dr Seo had been tracked down by his loan shark at the hospital.

Episode 5

It so happened that Teacher Kim had given him the $10,000 dollars Dr Seo asked him at the onset.  So Dr Seo had the money to give to the loan shark, who sniggered at the amount.

They said it was not enough.  They wanted $70,000 inclusive of interest.

Anyway, they said that they have something they wanted him to do which potentially would clear his debt with them.

Dr Seo said that it could cost him to lose his medical license.

They said that’s why they would pay him $70K.

Meanwhile, it was Friday.

A minibus containing Russian tourists on their way to the casino crashed in the motorway.  The injured passengers ended up at Doldam Hospital, being the nearest hospital.

Apparently, it is well known that Friday is the most unbelievably busy day of the week. The hospital may not be used to it but was expecting it.

There ware other local patients which made Dr Seo go into an almost catatonic trance of grief.  It was a family suicide.  The father tried to kill his son before he tried to jump to his death.  But for now, they both survived their ordeal.

The situation reminded him so much of what happened to him as a child so he refused to treat the father.  He was on his own world of grief, which was not really ideal as more and more accident and emergency victims are arriving.

Poor Teacher Kim had to almost simultaneously operate on a couple of patients.  In desperation, he asked Cha Eun Jae to assist him in one of the operations.

Immediately Eun Jae said that she can’t do it.  Anyway, Teacher Kim had told her before that she should never enter the OR again.

Teacher Kim said that he had that covered and gave her a bottle of pills which he had especially prepared for her.  It has no side effects but would prevent her vomiting.

Still, Eun Jae had to think about it.  I reckon the pills were a placebo.  They were just pills that would not do anything.

Anyway, Dr Seo was also told by Teacher Kim to prepare to assist but Dr Seo absolutely refused to do so.

Park Eun Tak had had enough of Dr Seo’s attitude and told asked him what kind of a doctor was he?

“Patients can choose their doctor but doctor can’t choose their patient.”  That is the natural law of medicine.

In the end, both Dr Seo and Dr Cha ably assisted Teacher Kim.

But it was not a happy ending because the President of Doldom had been fired by the board and to be replaced by Dr Park Min Gook.

Park Min Gook knew that his appointment is the start of something big.  Doldam will be phased out and replaced by a super-hospital which will be more like a hotel/resort with golf course, casino and shopping centre.

Episode 6

A couple came to the hospital because their son was very unwell. Dr Cha quickly realised that the woman a victim of domestic violence, when she found the woman all beaten up and bloodied at the hospital toilet.

The husband just would not stop bullying his wife until she had had enough.  She took a Stanley knife at the nursing station and was going to use it on her husband but Dr Cha got in the way and ended up having her throat cut.

Episode 7 – 8

Woo Jin saw to the bleeding Dr Cha and patched her up with seven stitches.  Fortunately, no major arteries were severed.

Anyway, the slashing case was escalated against Dr Cha who was blamed that she started it all when she dragged the husband when he was half asleep.

She was given a choice to apologise to the man and that would be it.

Dr Cha apologised despite Teacher Kim telling her not too.

But this case did not end here, the wife still ending up cutting her husband’s throat.

Teacher Kim told off Dr Park.  He said if he had only called the police on the onset, it would not turn as it did.

A lifer from prison was brought to the hospital.  Some of the staff were thinking why would they have to treat him when he was meant to spent his life in prison.

Then a female paramedic was also brought in. She was smacked on the head several times by a vagrant.  A couple of hours later, she collapsed.

Both her eyes have fully dilated which seemed to mean she was heading towards becoming brain dead.

Anyway, she was pronounced as brain dead.  Her mother showed the staff her daughter’s donor card.

She was initially willing to honour what her daughter wanted but she changed her mind when she found out that a kidney would be transplanted to the lifer who had killed two people.

But in the end, of course, she had a change of mind and everything turned out well.

Episode 8 ended with Woo Jin kissing Dr Cha as a reset!

Episode 9

The first time they first kissed was back in medical school when Cha Eun Jae fainted during lab work with a cadaver.

She was so embarrassed and kept thinking of her humiliation of being carried out of the lab.

Woo Jin kissed her to stop her thinking about it, he called the kiss a reset, a sort of necessary evil, nothing romantic.

And now he kissed her again as a reset but warned her not to get heartbroken in someone else’s business.  And not to get involved with him because it would get boring and pathetic…

So Cha Eun Jae tried to forget their mini-episode.

It was the doctors’ and staff weekly meeting.  It was by invitation only and the Head nurse who usually attends the meeting was not invited.  And Teacher Kim was unusually absent as well.  He had not arrived at the hospital yet.

During the meeting, it was discussed that Dr Cha will be transferred out to another hospital and that they would limit the number of people treated at ER.

Dr Cha was told of her transfer immediately by one of the doctors.  She said that she was not having it.

Woo Jin got curious why Teacher Kim was absent.  He talked with Bae Moon Jeong if there was something medically wrong with Teacher Kim as he found him looking in pain with one of his arms.

Bae Moon Jeong said that three years ago, Teacher Kim had hurt his wrist and had Carpal Tunnel Syndrome because he had overworked himself operating non-stop.

Woo Jin researched CTS.  He was mulling over why Teacher Kim seemed in pain not with his wrist but more on his elbow to the upper arm.

Meanwhile, Teacher Kim was waiting for his appointment in a hospital in the city.  It was fairly late when he was done.

He had taken the bus back to Doldam,  It then started to snow.

All of a sudden there was a young woman standing by the middle of the road trying to stop the bus.  It seemed the break on the bus was faulty so the driver had to avoid the girl and another car coming.

The bus then swerved and started rolling down the ravine.  There were around 13 passengers including Teacher Kim and he was most concerned about a heavily pregnant woman.

Dr Kim called Doldam hospital and ordered Woo Jin and Eun Jae to the accident scene to be the attending emergency physicians.

The condition was not good as it was snowing and because of the coming ambulance, the traffic was particularly heavy.

Woo Jin decided to run for the last mile followed suit by Eun Jae.

It so happened that Dr Park was coming back from a dinner being given by the hospital chairman to discuss the proposed Mirei Hospital,  Dr Park was not really enthusiastic about the multi-billion won resort hospital.

He was sitting in the traffic when he noticed the ambulances,  He then got a call from his assistant and relayed to him that there was a bus accident near Doldam and that Teacher Kim was one of the passengers.

Dr Park went to have a look and then he suddenly had a gamut of emotions which brought out some psychological issues involving another bus accident with Teacher Kim years ago.

He was just about to escape the scene but was too late as Woo Jin and a very tired Eun Jae had just arrived and seen him.

Dr Park had a voice over.  He said that he had tried to delete this particular memory from his mind and here it was repeating itself.

Episode 10.

Teacher Kim and Dr Park had a heart to heart after Dr Park took it as an insult when Teacher Kim despite being obviously unwell operated on two major surgeries very efficiently.

Dr Park reminded Teacher Kim of the bus accident that happened 11 years ago.  He said that he was on the bus as well but he left while Teacher Kim stayed to save the injured.  He expected Teacher Kim to belittle him but it did not come.

Instead, Teacher Kim said that it was understandable that Dr Park, despite being a doctor, would leave a very dangerous situation.  No one blamed him and no one should.  He told Dr Park that he should not blame himself either and it was time to get off the bus.  Let go of his guilt.

It was very unfortunate that Teacher Kim seemed to be really unwell.  He took a nap but when he awoke, he had blurry vision and can’t move nor get up.

Woo Jin found him and could see him collapsed in a locked room.

It was panic time.  An unwell Teacher Kim would mean Doldam in trouble.

Very unfortunate as Eun Jae said that she wouldn’t mind staying at Doldam permanently.  Woo Jin said he might also do just that.

Hope Teacher Kim is going to be fine.

I think Dr Park would start fighting for Doldam and become the permanent President.  Hopes so.

By the way, the girl that inadvertently caused the bus accident was a rape victim.  She also ended up in the hospital for treatment.

The serial rapist followed her pretending to be an attending policeman.

Yoon Ah-Reum took specimen from the girl for evidence and would have given this to the fake policeman.

The rapist waylaid Yoon Ah Reum and she would have become his next victim.

But Ah-reum had a presence of mind to throw water from the boiling kettle on the face of the rapist.

Episode 11

Nurse Oh had a mini-breakdown when Teacher Kim insisted on getting up from his hospital bed.  She told off Teacher Kim to stay in bed and behave like a normal patient and allowed them to treat him the best they can.

Teacher Kim was so surprised he agreed to stay in bed as a regular patient.

Meanwhile, it was quite not the same at Doldam.  The President had replaced the nurses at the reception.  The nurses have been turning away emergency calls they received, giving the reason that the hospital was full when in fact it was empty.

While Dr Seo was performing surgery, he found out that the patient’s bile duct had been mistakenly taken out instead of the gall stone.

This was, of course, medical misconduct.  He had it recorded and was going to report it.

He was pressured to drop the case by the President and his team.  They warned him that he should have learned from the first time he whistleblew.

He was also told that the doctor who performed the surgery was none other than Cha Eun Jae’s brother.

Episode 12

Dr Seo was in a quandary.  He was suddenly confused about whether to report Eun Jae’s brother to the medical board or not.

He tried to speak to Eun Jae about it but she was on her way out to meet her mother.

Her mother told her that she had to help her brother and the family to convince Dr Seo to drop the case.

Eun Jae was confused about what happened.  When she got back, she can’t somehow force herself to speak to Woo Jin.

But her mother can no longer wait so she took the matter on her hand and went to Doldam to speak to Woo Jin herself.

Eun Jae, who was at that time felt rather happy and proud of herself because she had successfully operated on a patient with Teacher Kim assisting, found her mother talking to Woo Jin.

Eun Jae went ballistic.  She requested Woo Jin to leave her to talk to her mother.

Eun Jae, who was usually a dutiful daughter let it rip with her mother.  She told her mother that she was out of order coming to the hospital where she works.  She also said that her brother should answer for what he did.  She then said that her mother does not know how much she had suffered to become a surgeon.  She never wanted to be a doctor or a surgeon in the first place but her mother had brainwashed her from when she was still a child, saying that they are a family of doctors so must become a doctor.

Her mother was left speechless.

Nurse Oh had told everyone not to bother Teacher Kim with absolutely anything. They had to leave him to recuperate.

But somehow Teacher Kim started finding out what was happening because he noticed the lack of activities in the ward.

Dr Nam, the anesthetist was unceremoniously fired by the president.  Teacher Kim, though rather belatedly, found out about it and unfired Dr Nam.

Teacher Kim also created another hotline and started receiving emergency cases.

He was also told that Dr Seo’s nemesis from Samjin Hospital was currently in Doldam recruiting nurses and staff with an offer of a better salary.

Then Song Hyun Chul was tasked by the Chairman to strategically gossip to Teacher Kim about the chairman’s plans with Doldam Hospital in connection to Mirei Hospital.

When Song Hyun Chul asked why the Chairman would want to reveal the Mirei project to Teacher Kim, the chairman insinuated that he wanted to pit Teacher Kim against Dr Park.

The Chairman had his finger in every pie.  He also arranged that Dr Seo is confronted again by the loan shark.

And they did.

Woo Jin accompanied Eun Jae to get her car which had been towed.

While Eun Jae was paying for the fine inside the office, the loan shark appeared.

When she got out, Eun Jae can’t find Woo Jin.  She knew that something had happened to him!

Episode 13

It looks like Bae Mung Joon had a connection with the mob/gang because he was able to clear Eun Jae’s debts with them for eternity.  The ex-doctor who was recruiting staff at Doldam had also finally found his conscience and returned the contract Woo Jin was forced to sign.

Episode 14

This is a hectic episode.  The ex-President of Doldam was brought in to the hospital.  He had signed a DNR.  Some of the grief-stricken staff wanted Teacher Kim to resuscitate the president and some did not including Park Eun Tak.  But in the end, Teacher Kim threw caution to the wind and revived the president.

Meanwhile, at the OR, Dr. Park Min Guk had a table death,  The son of Sejin Group chairman died on the operating table.

Episode 15

Dr Do is back from season 1.  He said that he had been ordered by Dr Yoon Seo-jung to be a shadow to Teacher Kim until he had his operation for his CTS otherwise she would jump on the plane herself and look after Teacher Kim.

Dr Kim was happy with how considerate his former mentees are.

Dr Do also said that he has another mission.  He is one of the investigators on the table death which happened yesterday.

Dr Do warned Teacher Kim that the collateral damage to the investigation will be Doldam Hospital.

When did Teacher Kim ask if there was anything they can do to save Doldam?

Dr Do said there was.  Dr Park Min Guk would be the sacrificial lamb.

Episode 16

Aww, the staff were overcome with grief at the worsening condition of President Yeo, who was being pumped with life-extending drugs.

But there comes a time when enough is enough so he told Teacher Kim that his time had come and we would like to depart this world with dignity.  He asked to stop the medication.

Teacher Kim was full of anguish but he understood President Yeo.

He gathered the team and advised them to stop medicating President Yeo as per his request.  They can now say their last word to President Yeo.  They saw him pass peacefully.

Any kind of farewell leaves a scar on people’s hearts.😭😭😭

Just as life was getting brighter and lighter for Woo Jin, he found out that he owed Mung Jung.  Mung Jung’s father came to the hospital to convince his son to leave Doldam for a better hospital.  The father then saw Woo Jin and told him that he owed a lot to his son.

Woo Jin was confused so Mung Jung had to explain that his father is the president of the loan shark association.🤣

Woo Jin became wary of Mung Jung at first but then only momentarily because they have become best friends.

Woo Jin asked how to go about wooing Dr Cha.  Mung Jung said that he does not have much experience despite having been married.  He said his ex-wife who was a daughter of an assemblyman married him for his family’s money.  There was no romance and ended up divorce almost a month after the marriage.

Anyway, Woo Jin did not really have to do anything because Dr Cha boldly told him what she feels.❤️❤️❤️

Park Min Guk left a resignation letter but his disciple Dr Yang confiscated it.  Dr Yang then went to Do Yoon Wan.  Dr Yang told Do Yoon Wan that he would help him to get rid of Teacher Kim.

Dr Wang searched for incriminating information regarding Teacher Kim and he found what he was looking for.

Teacher Kim was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis by Woo Jin after looking through the Oddball Projects that Teacher Kim had compiled over the years.

Teacher Kim had an operation on his hand that had been giving him trouble.  So as he will be unable to perform any surgery himself, he asked Park Min Guk to take over from him.

I must say Park Min Guk never look more gorgeous than when he folded his shirt sleeves and put on a scrub.

Cha Eun Jae was asked to return to Geodae by Director Oh to help him with some of his cases.  She promised Woo Jin that she will only be gone for two days…

Meanwhile, Do Yoon Wan and his cohorts and thugs came barging in at Doldom Hospital demanding that Teacher Kim who is stricken with Multiple sclerosis should not be in charge of surgery and the hospital.  He also said that Doldom will be razed to the ground as per the decision of its mother hospital, Geodeo

It looked bleak at first for Teacher Kim but he laughed at CEO Do.

Teacher Kim then called for Jang Gi Tae to bring the document out.

Teacher Kim showed the document to CEO Do.

Doldam Hospital had been granted an independent status after the will of the original Chairman of Doldom had been unraveled and applied.

CEO Do went absolutely mental for being thwarted.  He went berserk and Mr Koo had to be called to sort CEO Do out.

That was satisfying.

After more than a fortnight at Geodae Hospital, Dr Cha returned to Doldam and Woo Jin.

Yoon Ah Reum who is now the girlfriend of the handsome Eun Tak passed her doctor’s exam🤣

Then, Teacher Kim had a heart-to-heart with Park Min Guk.  He told Park Min Guk to stay at Doldam and be a shining light rather than just one of many bright ones in the city.

Park Min Guk said that he will consider it under the condition that they should work together to build a trauma Centre at Doldom.

Teacher Kim was ecstatic.  He told Park Min Guk that was his long-time dream all along and will do it.

8 April 2021: There is a rumour that Romantic Doctor 3 will start filming this November 2021.  Wow!  Will have the same cast from season 2? A combination of season 1 & 2 ?  Or completely different doctors mentored by Dr Romantic?
