Quick Precis:

Childhood friends Nian Mengyu and Lu Jiajia were once frenemies.  As they navigate the field of falling in love, they found each other in the midst of SARS.

or something like that!

Episode 1

This drama is a little gem.  It seemed to come out from nowhere.

I love the story and the acting.  It was rather believable.

Lu Jia Jia is in a long-distance relationship with her boyfriend. She was in Nanjing while he was in Beijing.

Episode 2

Jia Jia was told by her boyfriend that he will be going to Shanghai and would like to meet with her.

Jia Jia was so excited to see her boyfriend again.  When she got to the bus station, Mengyu was also there to go with her to Shanghai.

She was so annoyed and yet grateful as well.

She did not get to see her boyfriend in Shanghai because he chose to go to a drink up with his team leader after their lecture.

Silent teacher.

 

Episode 3

Her parents noticed how much she spend on her phone card so they cut her allowance.

She started collected plastic bottles to sell more money. She intended to buy her boyfriend a mobile phone so she could reach him more conveniently.

However, she was missing him and when she heard that Mengyu was going to Beijing she decided to tag along with him,

She was already in Beijing when she was still getting several messages from her boyfriend not to come along.

She then found him at a party.

Episode 4

She knew she had to break up with him without even Mengyu telling her to.

She was not heartbroken for long because she found another love interest.

He was Jiang Fang, their senior and student tutor.

Mengyu was jealous but has not realised why?

He was annoyed with for getting over Ji Xue and then moving on immediately to someone else.  He told her that she was like a tom cat.

Anyway Jiang Fang was cute and same as her, he comes from a family of doctors.

Episode 5

I am loving this drama, there is something really authentic about it.  It is that closeness of friends that sometimes irritating that you wanted to hurt its other and that is what they are always doing.

Jia Jia was feeling rather lacking in confidence as a woman after Mengyu once again told her that she was so plain and unfeminine Jiang Fang would not look at her.

So Jia Jia went shopping for clothes as she has now the spare cash as she does not have to spend it of phone cards.

While shopping she also both a fancy earring.  She decided to pierce her own ears.

It got infected and everyone seemed to know about because Mengyu sent Da Zhi to bring her antibitics.

She declined because she was still annoyed with him.

Jiang Fang though came to see her and led her to the lab and cleaned her infected ear for her.  He also gave her a silver earring which is more suitable for new pierced ears.

To get back at Mengyu, she secretly entered him to a 3000 metre race at Sport’s Day.

Mengyu paid her back by volunteering her to hold the banner for the class.  It was not just any banner. He asked his class to help him design and make an ambulance car which was fairly big for Jia Jia to suit herself with.

Episode 6 – 7

To lift Jia Jia’s spirit and confidence, Jiang Fang gave her a contact who will tell her that she was far from ugly.  It was a makeover salon who introduced her to a photographer who wanted ordinary girls who are pretty.

The magazine sell out and most was bought by MengYu who did not want the boys in their uni to see her dressed sexily.

To punish her, he sent a magazine to every member of her extended family.

But he did not get the reaction he was expecting.

Jia Jia’s mother was so proud of her and showed the magazine to everyone.

Her grandparents and aunts and uncles were showing the magazine to their neighbours.

Da Zi came to visit him.  He realised that Mengyu was too possessive of Jia Jia.  He told Menyu that he was treating Jia Jia as a personal asset rather than just a friend of sister.

He said that Mengyu feels more of Jia Jia than what he lets on.  He advised Mengyu to go fro Jia Jia if he wanted her because between Jia Jia and Xiaohui, Jia Jia was the real gem.

And some guy would know this and snatch Jia Jia away from him.

Episode 8

Mengyu was beginning to realise that he was more alive and have more fun when he was with Jia Jia.

Jia Jia was so shocked to find out that Sun Xiaohui was not only dating Mengyu but also her senior who she plays mahjong with at the science lab.

She tried to warn Mengyu but he would not listen so, in the end, she told him sincerely that whatever happens, she will always be there for him as his brother and friend.
