Gising Gising Recipe
This is just a reminder to myself that I should try to cook this as it looks scrumptious from a photo posted by my teenage-idol, Arnold Gamboa in his Facebook.
Apparently, whenever he serves Gising Gising in his dining table it was a sure blockbuster. Everyone just can’t get enough of it. It was that delicious.
I have to admit I have never tasted it before and I have never heard of it before today.
I had a search for what the ingredients are and I was pleasantly surprised that I actually got them all in our fridge and larder. Yoohoo!
Actually what really made me curious about this recipe is its name.
Gising Gising, if they are Tagalog words, would mean Wake up Wake up in English.

Yes! I have cooked it and it was deemed a success. Below is the photo of my version of Gising Gising

Ingredients:
- 220g Green beans, cut them in fairly small portions at about 2 cm length
- 220 g minced pork
- 1 can coconut milk
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 medium onion, chopped finely
- 2-3 pieces chili, sliced
- 1 ½ tbsp Bagoong (fish paste) or fish sauce (patis)
- ½ tsp ground black pepper
- 2 tbsp oil
Method of preparation
- Heat the oil in a large casserole pan.
- Saute the garlic until brown, do not burn to prevent bitter taste.
- Add the onion and cook until translucent.
- Stir in the minced pork. Use the ladle to separate the pork into tinier pieces.
- Add the bagoong or fish sauce. Stir to incorporate.
- Sprinkle the ground black pepper. Stir.
- Add the coconut milk, give it a gentle stir.
- Cover the casserole and turn up the heat slightly to bring this to a boil.
- When bubbling hot, turn down the heat and allow to simmer for 8 to 10 minutes. Give it a stir now and again.
- Add the chili.
- Tip in the green beans. Allow to cook for another 3-5 minutes. Leave the cover off so the green coloring of the beans won’t degrade.
Now ready to serve with freshly boiled rice.
