Quick Precis

A story of friendship between two stunningly beautiful women who forged a a close bond when they were still young.  They supported each other through thick and thin.

Episode 1

Zhu Suo Suo and Jiang Nan Sun are best of friends since they were younger.  They are both beautiful, with the same long hair.

Their difference was their status in life.  Nan Sun comes from an affluent family while Suo Suo lives with her cousin, who is devoted to her.

Nan Sun has a boyfriend, Zhang An Ren, who is an architect.

Her aunt asked Nan Sun to have her boyfriend designed and renovate her house for her.

But on the day that Zhang An Ren turned up with the plan, the aunt was not there, instead Nan `Sun’s father was ready and waiting with his interrogation.

He thought An Ren was not good enough for his daughter especially when he found out that An Ren lives in the outskirt of Shanghai.

He encouraged him to sell his house and move to Shanghai proper.

Nan Sun was getting annoyed with her father.  She finds him too controlling; he even hired a violin tutor for her so she could play the violin.  She had had enough of his butting into her life that she gathered all her designer clothes and accessories and threw them at his feet.  She then cut a huge lock of hair as her rebellion.

She then found out that her aunt was not sure that she wanted to use An Ren after all because Wang Yong Zheng, an architect who just arrived from abroad had a better design idea.

Meanwhile, Suo Suo asked the boss of a huge company to allow her to intern in the company.  But as the episode ended, it looks like the boss has other ideas.

Episode 2

Mr Ma made a move with Suo Suo immediately.  He told her that he was going to look for the best department in which she can do her internship, meanwhile, he assured her that she should not worry about money and prove this he took he shopping.

Nan Sun seemed to have developed a pathological hatred with Mr Wang.  You can see a mile off they end up in a relationship.

Meanwhile, An Ren is still so nice.

Nan Sun was warned by her mother to turn down a dinner invitation of her father for her and An Ren because her father would ask An Ren to sell his house and give the money to the father to invest.

Nan Sun heed her mother’s advice but An Ren insisted that they should build bridges with her family if she wanted them to get married.

Episode 3

Sou Sou’s father came to see her with his new wife to be who was only a few years older than Sou Sou.

Her father wanted to meet her boyfriend, Mr Ma, who at first was enthusiastic and buying gifts for everyone but he got a call and he left before he met Sou Sou’s family.

It looks like he is a company driver rather than a Director.

Sou Sou began to have doubts about Mr Ma and asked Nan Sun to get her aunt to make a discreet inquiry on Mr Ma’s background.

Nan Sun was asked by her aunt to supervise Mr Wang while he was renovating her flat.

Lilian was making a scene because she thought that she was Mr Wang’s girlfriend and he was ignoring her.

Mr Wang tried to use Nan Sun as his pretend girlfriend but Nan Sun let the cat out the back.

She later found that Lilian is the daughter of Professor Dong, who Nan Sun wanted to be her mentor for her PHD.

Meanwhile, An Ren met Lilian as well through Nan Sun and he was rather interested as well.  I think the quiet An Ren is a bit of a social climber.

I am loving this drama.  Both the lead actresses are so gorgeously good.

Episode 4

Sou Sou personally saw Mr Ma behaving like a driver rather than the director he made her believed.

Then Nan Sun called her to tell her that her aunt found out that there is no Mr Ma in the higher-ups in the company.

She got her final confirmation from Mr Ye, the CEO of the company, that Mr Ma is his Driver Ma and she must return everything Driver Ma had given her because he had been committing fraud.

Sou Sou was upset about this embarrassing situation and was not helped by her cousin, Jia Ming who tells her that she should live simply with him and be his wife.

Sou Sou felt that she had no other choice but to move out and she moved in at Nan Sun’s family house where Nan Sun’s family had always treated her like a part of their family.

Meanwhile, Nan Sun was thwarted in her goal of becoming one of Professor Dong’s students in her PHD.  Instead, he told her that her new instructor was Mr Wang who is a student teacher.

Nan Sun was not grateful and made Mr Wang’s life rather hellish.  She turned up late at night interrupting him from watching a BL drama.  When he told her that it was unseemly for a student turning up at 10pm at a teacher’s flat, Nan Sun left in a huff and woke him at 7am.

An Ren was really ambitious.  He is now trying to network Lilian.

Episode 5

Nan Sun interned at Prof Dong’s construction project and Teacher Wang was the project manager.

Nan Sun behaved like a princess and slept through the redoing the brackets on the roof of the first-floor while An Ren filled in for her.

Meanwhile, Sou Sou was head-hunted by the marketing manager of Ye’s corporation.

Episode 6 – 7

Nan Sun’s parents set her up on a blind date with a much older guy who was already divorced and with a kid.

Nan Sun was clueless about this and told the hapless Mr Li that she has already a boyfriend who she intends to marry.

She was then saved by Sou Sou who contacted Teacher Wang for help as An Ren was unavailable.

An Ren was upset that he might not be able to stay in the university because he believes that between him and Teacher Wang, Teacher Wang will be chosen.

So An Ren asked Nan Sun if there was something that is wrong about Teacher Wang.

Nan Sun at first said that Teacher Wang is perfect.  He does his job very competently but one time he changed the brand prescribed by the university to something else and she could understand why because the shade of the paint he chose was much better.

This was all An Ren needed who reported the incident to the school.

An Ren got to stay at the university and Teacher Wang was out.

When Nan Sun found out about it, she told An Ren that what he did was despicable.

Teacher Wang was upset with An Ren.

Anyway, Nan Sun moved out of her home because her father had turned violent towards her when she thwarted her plan with the blind date he arranged.

She moved in next to An Ren who was so happy at first because he will have his princess living next to him but in the end it was turning into a nightmare because his soon to be mother-in-law became so controlling which was belittling his pride that he could not provide for the princess because he was was just a lowly employee.

Sou Sou was having the time of her life working for Mr Yang.  They got on so well, they have the same ethos.

Episode 8

Nan Sun was absolutely livid with An Ren.  More than she should really.

This was because she was already half in love with Teacher Wang and she feels responsible for him.

She was forcing An Ren to apologise to Teacher Wang and to confess what he did to the university and basically give up his new appointment.

Everyone told her that An Ren may have been underhanded but that is the nature of the world.

But Nan Sun was having none of it and if An Ren would not apologised then she would to Teacher Wang.

Teacher Wang told her to meet in his room that night and bring a bottle of wine.

Any self respecting almost engaged girl would think twice of going to a bachelor’s room at night with a bottle of wine but not this horny girl and when she got there, she found that he had company and she was so disappointed.

What a little hussy. 🙂

She then found An Ren in his room, stressed and crying and yet she told him not to do such heinous thing again.

I think he was much too good for her.  She is just lazy and thinks she is privileged.

Episode 9

An Ren had told Nan Sun that a friend from his hometown had come to Shanghai and would be staying with him.

The friend was a girl.  A very pretty Yuan Yuan.

As soon as Sou Sou heard about it she went mental and sorted the situation for Nan Sun, who was more interested really of the departing Teacher Wang.

Yuan Yuan will stay at Nan Sun instead of lodging with An Ren.

Sou Sou was asked by CEO Ye to spy on Yang Ke.  Sou Sou turned him down saying that she would not do that even if she gets the sack.

CEO Ye was rather impressed with how Yang Ke made his employees loyal to him.  Another reason why he does not want to lose Yang Ke.

Episode 10

It turned out that Yuan Yuan is An Ren’s ex-girlfriend who he promised to support and look after when she gets to Shanghai.

Stupid Nan Sun’s idea to get rid of Yuan Yuan was to buy her off.

Like ‘leave my boyfriend and I will send you to school and become my full-time scholar.  She then found out that her family is on the verge of going bankrupt so she borrowed the money from Sou Sou instead.

Episode 11

Sou Sou is the best person in this drama.  She is streetwise and the best most loyal friend.

Yuan Yuan agreed to go to an all-expense-paid college courtesy of Nan Sun.

An Ren was going to send her to enrol and move to her dorm but Sou Sou appeared and told that she will sort Sou Sou out.

After all this palaver, Nan Sun started having doubts whether she moved out only to be with the man not suited to her.

She had a talk about what Yuan Yuan was really to An Ren.

She was upset that he lied to her and brought an ex-girlfriend to live with him right under her nose.

Episode 12

Loving the building-up story between Sou Sou and a lonely chaebol, Mr Xie.

Mr Xie was going to be her first sale but the apartment he wanted was sold earlier.

Sou Sou did everything to make him less upset and was rewarded when he helped her sell two units to his friends.

It was Granny Zhu’s birthday, and she had a sumptuous 16 dishes dinner party with her family.  It became a goodbye dinner from the father who later run away because of his massive debts to fund his addiction to stocks and shares investments.

I am loving this drama.

Episode 37 – 38 – Finale

I got so addicted to this drama, I binge-watched it for three days.

I don’t know about you but I felt let down with these two last episodes.  I thought it was very anti-climactic.

Xie Hong Zu’s family company was about to go into receivership but Ye Jin Yang stepped in.

He resigned from Jin Yang but not had not completely left the company because he kept his shares as a major shareholder.  He asked Daisy to stay on and managed his shares for him.

Ye Jin Yan finally confessed to Daisy why he seemed so attached to Zhou Sou Sou.  It was because Sou Sou reminded him of his own daughter who he sent abroad to study for his own vanity.  He wanted to let it be known that his daughter was an international student.

He did not expect that his daughter would take her own life because of loneliness and alienation abroad.  He had always felt guilty about her.

Sou Sou reminded him how vibrant his daughter was once and as luck would have it, Sou Sou was born on the same day, the same month, and the same year as his daughter.

Unfortunately, Sou Sou misinterpreted his show of partiality towards her.  She wanted to bed him while he just wanted to tuck her in bed like a doting father!!!  🙂

Anyway, to the end he wanted to do good to Sou Sou and saved Xie Hong Appliances Corp on her behalf.

After a while, Sou Sou and Xie Hong Zu had a talk where Xie Hong Zu finally granted her a divorce but in the end he told her to give him three years and he will learn to run the business and be successful.  He would then marry her again.

Dong Zi Jian is such a good actor, you feel for him and I had a little cry when he was telling Sou Sou to wait three years for him.

But it seems Sou Sou was not one for waiting because she went traveling to Beijing with her daughter and it seems she would continue to spread her wings and go worldwide.

Ye Jin Yan gave back the reign of the Xie Hong Appliances to Xie Hong Zu, who he trained to take-over.

Nan Sun and Wang Yong Zheng don’t look like they are married but they became the first two employees of the newly established business by Ye Jin Yan.

Yuan Yuan and An Ren were still chasing the dream, separately.

I wanted Sou Sou to at least have a happy ending and find the home she had been longing for.  She was so starved of affection, she even misconstrued a paternal love into sexual love.  They could have given her a happy ever after with Xie Hong Zu.

Reall disappointed.
