It all started one wintry day in Beijing in the 70s.
Xiao Chusheng sneaked into the back window of a library which has been closed to the public. The library contained banned books. He was surprised to see a book about nursing which was well-thumbed and found a bookmark in between the pages.
Not long after another person crept into the library. She is Tang Xiao Mei who was flummoxed when she could not find the nursing book she usually read and left on a small table.
The two did not know of each other but somehow, Chusheng helped her to leave unnoticed when two guards investigated the mysterious activities inside the locked library. They found Chusheng who had such a good way of influencing people, he managed to get away unscathed.
Meanwhile, Ye Guo Hua was falling in love with a girl who he saw on the bus and he can’t wait to tell his best friend Chusheng.
But when they met up, they almost ended up in trouble because another friend had his hat snatched by the local hood.
