Ti Ayat Ti Maysa Nga Ubing (The Love of a Youth) – Filipino Folksong
Ti Ayat Ti Maysa Nga Ubing
Ti ayat ti maysa nga ubing, (The love of a youth)
Nasamsam-it ngem hasmin (is sweeter than jasmin)
Kasla sabong nga apag-ukrad (it’s like a newly bloomed flower)
Iti bulan ti Abril (in the month of April)
Ti ayat ti maysa a lakay, (The love of an old guy)
Aglalo no agkabaw, (especially when getting forgetful)
Napait, napait, napait a makasubkar. (It is bitter, bitter, bitter even to contemplate)
Anansa a tao lelong, (Advice to you grandpa)
Agsapulka tay balo (Find a widow)
A kapadpad ta ubanmo (who has the same grey hair that you have)
Ken dayta tuppolmo (And just as toothless as you)
Ta bay-am a panunuten (Forget)
Ti ayat ti maysa nga ubing (the love of a youth)
Aglalo, aglalo no addan makin-aywanen (Especially when they are already taken)
Ti ayat ti maysa nga ubing,
Nasamsam-it ngem hasmin
Kasla sabong nga apag-ukrad
Iti bulan ti Abril.
Ti ayat ti maysa a lakay,
Aglalo no agkabaw,
Napait, napait, napait a makasubkar.
Anansa a tao lelong,
Agsapulka tay balo
A kapadpad ta ubanmo
Ken dayta tuppolmo
Ta bay-am a panunuten
Ti ayat ti maysa nga ubing
Aglalo, aglalo no addan makin-aywanen
Aglalo, aglalo no addan makin-aywanen
I love this song which we used to sing back when we were living in Marag, Luna, in the Northern Luzon of the Philippines in the late 70s.
Sadly, my Ilocano is not too fluent anymore but I can still get by understanding it.
This folksong is not woke or politcally correct at all. LOL
It tells of first love with all its innocence and purity versus the love of an old man who started to be forgetful.
Love is sweet but a love between these two should never happen ever! LMAO.
It says here that these two kinds of lovers should not cross path because they can’t be compatible as a youth is just starting while the older person has been there done it.
It is interesting that the month of April is mentioned because this month is SPRING where flowers just start to bloom.
The old man is AUTUMN, when decidious plants start to fall off maturity.
An old man should search for someone of his own age. Leave the youth alone. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
This song does not really have anything against older people but just to poke fun at them because after getting older, they must have had many love affairs under their belt so it was time to settle with someone more like-minded and leave the youths to navigate the joy and peril of love with their own age.🥹🥹🥹
