Episode 1
Woking 1905
Amy and George were treated as a pariah because George left his wife, Lucy, for Amy who grew up in colonial India.
Their relationship is quite scandalous.
His brother, Frederick, is a top official to the prime minister.
Amy and George became friends with a chemist, Ogilvy, who is a keen amateur astronomer. He has a large refracting telescope at his house. He had been observing, photographing and recording mysterious explosions coming from the surface Mars.
He saw objects going into space.
Around 11 May 1905, a great explosion reverberated through Woking and the surrounding area.
A huge mound had appeared in the woods.
Upon careful investigation lead by the Astronomer Royal, Ogilvy, Amy, and helpers, they started to excavate the large meteorites, which started spinning and the surrounding crust fell away. it then rose up into the sky, emitting invisible heat rays which killed the Astronomer Royal and people near him.
Panic ensued and they started running away.
Ogilvy was nowhere in sight.
Amy and George run off home to see to their household.
Poor Mary was struck from falling bricks as the earth seemed to be shaking.
Because before them appeared a gigantic tripod who was whizzing race.
George got a hold of a horse and had Amy ride him away as he stopped to rescue their dog.
But poor George was trapped by debris and the tripod mechanical being was almost upon him.
George implored for Amy to leave. She had to go to his brother, Frederick.
Frederick was so upset to learn of the fate of his baby brother. He blamed Amy for his brother’s sorry fate.
Amy then said that she was pregnant.
She was warning her common-law brother in law about the Tripod Machine.
The Martian invasion had begun.
