Woo Jung – Golders Green (Korean Restaurant Review)

We had a family post Valentine’s Day Dinner at a fairly new Korean restaurant in Golders Green called Woo Jung.  We usually go to Sarang, located at the opposite side of the road, but we thought we should try Woo Jung to be more familiar to it in case Sarang is full up again, which is usually the case.

The restaurant has many Filipino diners because a special shoutout or welcome written in Tagalog was pasted on their outside sign board.

The staff are lovely, very welcoming and helpful we thought.

Anyway, despite booking a table, we were told that he only have an hour and a half to dine as a party of eight had also booked our table.

We thought we could manage that but deep down I was not very pleased.

Beef & Pork Barbie

We were seated cordially by a cheerful waitress.  She was very accommodating.  She gave us a few menu book to peruse.  After looking at the selection, we decided on 2 orders of tenderloin beef and pork belly for the meat barbecue.  We also ordered king prawns.

We also order all the chicken in the menu under KFC which had spicy chicken, honey chicken, fried chicken, soy chicken and then there was something called Half Half.

Peter ordered stir fried gizzard, he always order the really unusual in the menu.

I ordered the beef sparerib both called Tang which came with rice.

The lovely waitress had lit up the table barbecue but after five minutes she came back telling us that the electric barbecue was defective.  She said she could  the one next to our table.  She then push our table to connect to the other table.

The food did not come all at once.  In fact we were kept wondering when we were going to get our rice and the rest of the chicken order as she had only got the original, the soya and honey chicken.

The pork belly was grilled to perfection but the beef, despite only being medium rare was so tough.  I was worried that we might have to perform hamlich manouver with the beef stuck in one’s throat.

What we missed about the barbecue was that in Sarang, it was cook on your table by the server.  Also a lot of side dishes and sauces were included.

Peter said that the gizzard was so tough, it was hard to eat.  He said the only one he like was the grilled prawns.

He said he does not see himself going back to Woo Jung in a hurry.

We were also very disappointed that the all the chicken we ordered did not turn up.  And we had to call our waitress to ask when our rice was coming.

The beef broth was nice but nothing special especially at £13.00 a bowl.

Poor Little Ollie was so disappointed.  He only had a cursory taste of his chicken.  He is a stauch fan of Sarang where he enjoys his chicken kaarage with lots of lettuce.

We ended up paying £151.00 for our meal which we thought was not that much compared to what we get at Sarang which is usually £10.00 cheaper and more variety.

A consensus that we will not go to Woo Jung again if we could get a table of Sarang.
