Quick Precis

A young man with severe heart problem preventing him to feel a spectrum of emotions meets a cheerful girl.

 

Episode 1

So far it is a promising likable start.  It is a no-brainer really, Ren Jialun is a versatile actor and Xing Fei is adorable.

Gu Chuan was always on the move for his craft.  He is a photographer.  He was highly energetic.

This was a few years back.  He was driving his jeep when he came across what he thought was an accident.

A lorry crashed into a family vehicle.  He left his car and tried to help the family out.  He then called to the driver of the lorry to lend him a hand but instead, the driver drove his truck right into the car, catapulting it into a ravine with Gu Chuan with it.

He became conscious of a child calling for help but he could not do much more than extend his hand towards the child because he was immobile as there was something piercing his chest.

Now in 2020…

Gu Chuan is the CEO of his own architectural firm but the opposite of the carefree man he used to be.  Because of the car accident years ago where he had a heart transplant, he is now more or less living on borrowed time.  He relies on an electronic watch to oversee the beating of his heart; any kind of excitement would send him to his early grave.

He had come to terms with this situation and quite pragmatic about it.  In fact, he had tried to purchase a plot for his grave which sent the agent into a panic because to get a plot, one needs a death certificate.

Gu Chuan told Cheng Ran that he wanted to make an award-winning work so that he could at least leave something long-lasting under his name when he’s gone.

They were meeting a client when Gu Chuan was forced to drink.

Cheng Ran knew that Gu Chuan and alcohol do not go together.  He does not only get drunk but somehow Gu Chuan releases some sort of static electricity that sends sparks and electrocute people who touch him.

Like their client who was a bit of a pervert, he insisted on shaking hands with Gu Chuan not knowing what would happen to him.  He ended up convulsed on the settee.

As the group (Gu Chuan, Cheng Rand and Su Man Lin) had been drinking they hired a designated driver who happens to be Xiao Ning.

Gu Chuan was very surprised when Xiao NIng grabbed his hand to escort him to the car.  She was not affected by his electric touch.

Xiao Ning was driving when she pulled up letting a coming lorry to pass.  She was shaken about it.  It looks like Xiao Ning was the little girl comforted by Gu Chuan all those years ago.

Episode 2

Gu Chuan has a mechanical heart which does the heart function for his body but there is a side effect.  He cannot exercise, he cannot drink and he can’t fall in love.  He must avoid strong emotions.

Su Man Lin liked her and invited her to an interview as an assistant to Gu Chuan, but during the interview, Gu Chuan told her to go back to university to finish her architecture degree as he does not need an assistant.

Gu Chuan lives a very secluded life. He did not even want to be closed to his parents because he wanted them to get used to him not being there anymore.

Episode 3

Gu Chang had a change of heart, he hired Xiao Ning as his assistant after all.

Xiaoning was very impressed with Gu Chuan and told him so that he was her idol.

Su Man Lin who seemed to like her before suddenly making trouble for her because she noticed that Gu Chang was rather considerate towards Xiaoning.

Su Man Lin invited Gu Chuan to important well-subscribed exhibitions.

Gu Chuan asked Su Man Li to get another ticket for Xiaoning.

Su Man Lin was annoyed at first but she was cheered up when Xiaoning got a call from the hospital to advise her that her aunt was admitted because of a car accident.

When Gu Chuan asked her where Xiaoning was, Su Man Li pretended not to know but Gu Chuan asked her to call Xiaoning.

Gu Chuan raced to the hospital and offered to pay the bill but Tang Xu, a gorgeous guy who is a friend of Xiaoning also turned up and offered to pay the bill.

For a while they were arguing who will pay but Xiaoning chose Gu Chuan because she can pay him back.

Episode 4

Xiaoning gave up university to look after her grandma who has Alzheimer’s. Her aunt was not much help because she was rather ailing as well but I think she was actually lazy and has an entitlement complex because they had looked after Xiaoning, when she lost her parents.  Xiaoning now had to return the favour.

Xiao Ning was helped by her two long-time friends, Zhao Yan and Tang Xu.

While Xiao Ning’s aunt was in the hospital, Zhao Yan offered to look after granny while Xiao Ning tends to her aunt.

Unfortunately, Zhao Yan, who had been doing a lot of overtimes fell asleep and was too late to notice that granny was setting the apartment on fire.

No one got hurt but it meant, they had to make the place livable again.

Tang Xu offered Xiaoning and granny a place to stay while they were decorating the flat.

Tang Xu has feelings for Xiao Ning which she had not twigged on yet but when Tang Xu dropped her to her place of work the next day, Gu Chuan was not happy.

Xu Cheng Ran was not happy either.  He said that it was such a small world.

Tang Xu and Xu Cheng Ran were brought up to be brothers when his father, brought Tang Xu to live with them a few years back.

Xu Cheng Ran did not like the situation and felt that he was being pushed out.

Tang Xu called him brother which only made Cheng Ran more irritated.

Anyway, Gu Chuan told Xiaoning that as only a probationary in his company, she was not allowed to have any relationship.

Cheng Ran was rather surprised with this very unusual dictum but he had to agree with Gu Chuan just to annoy Tang Xu.

Gu Chuan realised that he was being unreasonable but Xiaoning did not complain and agreed easily with this new company rule.

So cute.  I am really surprised why Ren Jialun accepted this drama because it is so light-hearted.

Episode 5

A drunk He Sheng accosted Xiao Ning, thank goodness Gu Chuan turned up.  It turned violent as He Sheng was out of control.  He slashed at Gu Chuan but when he injured Xiao Ning as well, Gu Chuan became superhuman and electrocuted He Sheng.

They all ended up in the hospital.

Cheng Ran was tasked to bring He Sheng to the hospital.  He Sheng was interviewed by the police.  He was telling them that Gu Chuan electrocuted him.  The police did not believe him because he was way too drunk.  They also found that he had ongoing criminal cases.

Meanwhile, Xiao Ning would not leave Gu Chuan alone because she was worried about him.

He told her to wait downstairs and not to disturb him.

He then went to a secure room where he has an electronic pod.  He laid there until his bionic/mechanical heart is fully charged.

When he was through, he found Xiaoning asleep downstairs.

His doctor called him because of the anomalous data he received regarding Gu Chuan’s heart.

Gu Chuan explained what happened.

His doctor asked him if he was in love?  He reminded Gu Chuan that touching, hugging, holding hands and kissing would make his heart malfunction.

He said though not to lose faith because he will find the solution.

Gu Chuan wearily said that the doctor had been telling him that for the last ten years.

Episode 6

Tang Xu was told that his father was coming out of prison.  Cheng Ran’s father said that whatever he feels for his father he must be filial.  He advised Tang Xu to go see his father in prison.

Tang Xu did go but it was a very uncomfortable visit and basically saying to his dad that he does want to have anything to do with him.

Cheng Ran fell in love with Zhao Yan when she threw him over her shoulder when they were in the hospital in the previous episode.

Cheng Ran was so happy to find out that Zhao Yan is best friend to Xiaoning.  He was now planning a double date with Xiaoning and Gu Chuan and him with Zhao Yan.

Zhan Yan told him to keep on dreaming.,

Gu Chuan’s parents visited him in the apartment and found Xiaoning with him.  They could not be happier.

But once Xiaoning had left, his parents got the shock treatment from Gu Chuan, who basically told them that he doesn’t want to see them again really and advised them to treat him as if he was dead.

His father went ballistic and told him that his mother never left his side when he was ill and that they had to sell everything they’ve got so he could live.  His father said in anguish that he wish now that they had let him die.

He said that he wished that too because the way he was living now was not really being alive.  He was not allowed to feel or have emotion.

So sad.  Loving the script and the acting of the cast.

Episode 7

Gu Chuan could not help himself being attracted to Xiaoning. She was so refreshingly perky and nothing seems to faze her.

He consulted his doctor about the state of his heart, that he gets pain and sometimes difficulty in breathing.

His doctor said that he was in love.

Episode 8

Poor Tang Xu!  It looks like he was going to be used by Cheng Ran’s father for some nefarious business fraud.  He told Tang Xu to manage one of his company and he would be drawing money from it like money laundering.

He would probably blame the money laundering to Tang Xu’s father after coming out of prison.

Meanwhile, Gu Chuan found Xiaoning’s diary.

Gu Chuan started tutoring Xiaoning for her forthcoming exam for her diploma.  But Gu Chuan got so flustered he caused a short circuit in the house.

Fan Zhi Xin has a cameo role in this episode. He was Chen Chen, who belongs to the same faculty as Xiaoning.   Chen Chen looks absolutely gorgeous and Gu Chuan became rather jealous of him.

Gu Chuan feels dated compared to Chen Chen.

I hope Fan Zhi Xin gets more lead role.  He is really handsome and a good actor as well.

Gu Chuan was crushing on Xiaoning.

Man Lin was not liking it, especially when she saw a hairclip in Gu Chuan notepads the previous day which is now on Xiaoning’s hair.

To get a little revenge, she tasked Xiaoning to convince a gallery owner to knock down the wall at the frontage of her gallery.

Episode 9

Xiaoning was told to go during an office meeting because she lost the business with the gallery owner.

Man Lin said that according to company rule, it is a sackable offense to lose a commission.

Poor Gu Chuan did not have any choice and said that Xiaoning must leave.

But suddenly a sleeping Xu Cheng Ran woke up and overruled the company rule.  He said that he has the right to change the rules because he owns the company and he said he would give Xiaoning a second chance.  He will give her seven days to convince the gallery madam to reconsider taking away her business.

Xu Cheng Ran was giving himself the best actor award later that evening at Gu Chuan’s house.  He knew that Gu Chuan did not want to let Xiaoning go.

Gu Chuan querulously agreed with him that he was the best actor.

Episode 10

Xiaoning went to see the husband of the gallery owner.  Xiaoning found out that the drawings on the contentious wall were done by their child who had passed away when he was five.

Xiaoning said she understood because she knew how memories are important. She then said that her parents have died when she was fourteen.  To make her forget her grief of losing them, she packed away all their reminders but instead of forgetting them, she missed them more.  So her granny and aunt unpacked all the mementos and it was only then that she had come to terms that though they were gone, they live on her heart.

The gallery owner heard what she was saying and reconsidered her decision and also said that she wanted Xiaoning to be the architect to the gallery renovation.

Everything is happy again except for Su Man Lin who tried to stop Xiaoning from joining a staff away-day.

Wang Kai, the office manager overruled Su Man Lin.

Gu Chuan saw that evening that Xu Tang had come to see Xiaoning and had given her a necklace.  He was so jealous.

That night, he called Xiaoning to ask what she was doing.

She told him that she was preparing food for him because as his assistant, she wanted him to like her.

Quick as a flash, Gu Chuan said. “I like you already.”

Was that a confession?!!!

Episode 13

Su Man Li and Gu Chuan was going on an overnight conference and fact finding.  Gu Chuan insisted that Xiaoning goes with them.

While Xiaoning was left on her own devices she met a lovely lady photographer which she became instantly friendly with.

The lady was Wen Chen Chen and she wanted a good set designer.

Xiaoning told her that her boss was the best in his business.

Episode 14

Chen Chen went to their office and what have you know?

Gu Chuan was her first love and she was his first love as well but their relationship ended when he had the accident and could no longer be the man for her.

He tried to dump her but she ended up dumping him in the end.

Episode 15

Gu Chuan noticed that Xiaoning had turned into a different girl. She lacks concentration and her brightness and sense of humor were also gone.

To cheer her up, he asked her to accompany him to see a Chinese garden in another city.

When they got there, Xiaoning said there is something familiar about the place as if she had been there before.

She met Professor Wang, Gu Chuan’s former teacher and also turned out that he was her father’s teacher as well.  She found this out when she saw her baby photo with her father and the professor.  It was a small world.

Gu Chuan and Xiaoning found a cat which they had adopted.

Man Li asked Gu Chuan if Xiaoning could be her assistant for a while.

Finally Gu Chuan won the Jin An Award, the one that he crave more but he was not happy about it afterall.

Episode 16

Poor Xu Tang was being used by Cheng Ran’s father for money laundering.

Gu Chuan was all over the place with his emotion.  The very thing that he thought would satisfy, the culmination of his dream, his main goal had now become his albatross.

He went to attend the award ceremony and everyone was proud of him.

Xiaoning was entranced by how handsome he looked in his tuxedo.

Instead of celebrating afterwards, Gu Chuan became mournful.  He suddenly did not know what to do.  He said to Xiaoning that now he got the award, he doesn’t know what to do.

Looking at the quiet Gu Chuan.

Awww sad!  Xiaoning confessed to Gu Chuan but he told her to go home.

Episode 17

Xiaoning went to lunch with Wen Wen.

Man Li had turned into a vengeful stalker and locked Xiaoning out on the rooftop.

Gu Chuan came to the rescue but inadvertently electrocuted Xioning who ended in the hospital.

Meanwhile, Cheng Ran sent a copy of a photo he took of the man who beat him.

Gu Chuan was shocked to see the same man that caused the car crash all those years ago which caused him to lose his heart and changed his life.

He asked his lawyers to do an investigation on the man.

Episode 18

Though they did not mention the love confession anymore, Gu Chuan and Xioning were back to their normal chummy selves.

Cheng Ran’s father was hospitalised.

For the first time in years, Xiaoning’s birthday was celebrated and when they were singing ‘Happy Birthday to her she sort of realised that her rescuer during the car accident that killed her parents might be Gu Chuan.

Episode 19

She was not sure about it but Gu Chuan was sure and he started subtly interrogated Xiaoning about her family accident ten years ago.   And he was then convinced without a doubt that Xiaoning was the girl he held hands to comfort.

Gu Chuan had good news from his scientist doctor.  The doctor has a breakthrough his his mechanical heart.

He said that before long Gu Chuan could like like any normal human being.

Su Man Lin was becoming more jealous of Xiaoning so she made sure that the office found out that Xiaoning’s father was accused of fraud then years ago.

Xiaoning was so upset and she asked the HR manager to apologise to her.

The argument was getting heated, Gu Chuan intervened and warned the HR manager for divulging personal information of employees.

Episode 20

Gu Chuan started to investigate the accident ten years ago.  He recognised the driver of the lorry who said that it wasn’t him.  It was his twin who had died already.

The man was then kidnapped and thrown in the bottom of the sea by the guards at Xu Guo Xiang’s company.

Meanwhile gorgeous Chen Chen is back in the scene and Gu Chuan was getting jealous of him.

Gu Chuan even braved a very spicy hot pot against Chen Chen.

Episode 21

Chen Chen is so cute.  He was there and everywhere to agitate Gu Chuan for Xiaoning.

And it worked beautifully because Gu Chuan confessed to Xiaoning  in an innovative way.  It was architectural and holographic.

He told her that he like her but he could not be with her for now.  She had to wait at least three months.

All encounters in life are awaited reunion after a long time apart.”

Gu Chuan said this to Xiaoning.  But I am pretty use I heard this quote before.  Was it in Evernight Season 2?

Tang Zheng Cheng, Tang Xu’s dad had come out of prison.

Poor Tang Xu was waiting for Xiaoning downstairs but she was happily loved up with Gu Chuan up in the office.

And when they finally came down, Xiaoning did not give Tang Xu time to tell her anything because she just wanted to be with Gu Chuan.

Poor Tang Xu.

Xiaoning and Gu Chuan were on a lunch date when a skater bumped into Gu Chuan who dropped his watch.

He told Xiaoning that he was not feeling well so he had to go home.

Episode 22

Xiaoning finally finds out that Gu Chuan was the gege who saved and stayed with her during the car accident which killed her parents.  And this was the cause of his damaged heart ten years ago.

Xiaoning at first wanted to know if he was a robot.

Gu Chuan assured her that he is still all human with a mechanical heart.

Their supposed to be secret romance immediately got found out at work because they can’t keep their hands to each other.

Anyway, Gu Chuan surprised her with something that her late father designed as an architect.  It was the Clock of Time at a university.

Episode 23

Xiaoning is basking in her relationship with Gu Chuan.

Thery are just too cute together.

He said that she was to bold, girls should be reserved.

Aunt Jiang Lin found out about the relationship and asked Gu Chuan to meet in a cafe where she quizzed the guy.

He looked perfect at first but he told her that he had some medical problems, the Aunt became alert and asked if the illness was treatable.

Gu Chuan could not really give her a definite answer.

Aunt Jiang Lin demanded that Xiaoning breakup with Gu Chuan but she defied her aunt.

She took Gu Chuan to the village that she grew up in and showed him her old house which had become derelict.

She said her goal was to renovate it one day.

When Xiaoning got back home, her aunt was waiting for her again demanded why she had not broken up with him.

Xiaoning told her auntie that Gu Chuan’s ill-health was because of her.  He was the one who saved her from the accident ten years ago.
