Quick Precis

A brief meeting at the airport already sealed their fate to be together forever.

Shengchen was being forced to get married by his family.  Without much choice, he agreed but he was going to choose his own bride.

He married Shiyi and together they worked to make the family business thrive.

But their life was tested when Shiyi was injured trying to save Shengchen.

Episode 1

Based on this first episode, Chang’an Memories did not have a happy ending.

Anyway, at present time Shiyi is a very popular voice actress.  She is very low-key and really choosey of projects she does.

The latest drama she was doing was narrating the story about Junior Prince Nan, who gave so much for his country but he was framed and ended up being executed by dismemberment.  Chopping him to pieces took 6 hours.  Whoa, that hurts.

While narrating this Shiyi could not help but tear up.  The producers and sound engineers were all praising her emotional monologue.

After her voice session, she hurried to the airport to catch her flight back home.

It took a bit of time going through the metal detector because she was wearing bejeweled high heels.

It so happened that a man was going through the same thing at the adjacent metal detector doorway (without the high heels. of course).  He looks like he was in a hurry so he just grabbed his bag and proceeded to leave.

The metal detector assistant found the man’s ID on the tray and called ‘Zhou Shengchen’

Zhou Shengchen stopped and saw the ID being waved at him.  He did not notice Shiyi falling in love at first sight with him.

He took his ID and thanked the assistant.

Shiyi, who was normally on the shy side, went after Shengchen and introduced herself.  She told him that she was just working on a drama…

Instinctively, Shengchen knew that it was a drama about Junior Prince Nan.

Shiyi then said that she wanted to be friends with him and wanted his Wechat.

Shengchen said he can’t give it to her.

Shiyi was crashed.

Shengchen, seeing her disappointment, elaborated that as he had just come back to China from abroad, he doesn’t have a WeChat.  But offered her his email address.

Six months later…

Shiyi and Shengchen had become e-mail friends. He is a Chemistry professor who is affiliated with the University of California in Berkeley but he is based in Germany. He had come back to Xi’an for a business trip.

Anyway, it so happened that Shiyi with her associate and friend, Hong Xiao Yu was bound for Xi’an for looking at the place.

They were taking a break at a restaurant and talking about the meaning of a quote when out of nowhere, a man said that he agrees with Shiyi’s interpretation.

Shiyi looked up to see Shengchen who invited himself to seat at their table.

Shiyi was so shyly excited but not for long because Shengchen’s colleague came to collect him for the afternoon seminar.

Before he went Hong Xiao Yu told him that they will be going to the Dragon Azure Temple to see the peach blossoms.

He said that if it does not rain, he will be there.

It did not rain so they all met up and had tea afterwards.

Shiyi was falling in love quietly with him which was noticed by his assistant professor who was all worried when a girl came to see Shengchen.

The girl came to deliver a wedding invitation to Shengchen.  It was her wedding to Shengchen’s brother.  The girl said that she had only ever wanted to marry one man and that man was Shengchen.

Shengchen told her that if she was having doubts about her forthcoming wedding then she should be talking it through her fiance rather than with him.

The girl left in a hurry.

Episode 2

Shengchen and Shiyi’s relationship was almost over before it even started.

Shiyi was invited to have dinner with Shengchen’s work colleague and while Shengchen was settling the bill, someone asked Shiyi if she was Shengchen’s girlfriend.

Shiyi said she wasn’t, then someone else said that Shengchen has already got a fiancee.

This really shocked Shiyi as history seemed to be repeating itself.  Can’t they really not be together?

Anyway, Shiyi immediately said that she’s got to go.

Shengchen insisted to take her back to the hotel.

They were so awkward in the car and when they reached the hotel, Shiyi could not wait to get away but Shengchen said that he overheard the group conversation and he added that his situation was misunderstood.  He doesn’t have a fiancee and he will not marry until he found ‘the one’.

This was a carte blanche for Shiyi to flirt with Shengchen.

By the way, it looks like Shiyi actually remembers their past together.

She told Shengchen that she could read his palm but she could only tell the part about his past.

She told him while holding his hand that they met each other in their previous life.

He was happy about it and gave him the confidence to finally asked for her number.

Anyway, Shiyi is later teased by her colleagues that she was having LDR with a guy.

Shiyi tried to call Shengchen’s office but she was told that Shengchen had left.

Shengchen went home to his family.

Miss Tong who was engaged to his brother was sulking all the way through.

Shengchen got dressed and he looked very prosperous and ready to meet the elders of the family who are all shareholders of their conglomerate.

When Shengchen broached the subject of their investments everyone was lukewarm of his new ideas.  Instead, they told him to rest for now which made Shengchen downhearted.

He needed cheering up so he called Shiyi to go out with him for dinner.

Shiyi was only too excited to go. She immediately noticed how different Shengchen looked and also his chauffer-driven plush car.

Loving Bailu, she is so cute and confident.

Episode 3 – 4

Shengchen asked Shiyi to get engaged because his mother wanted him to marry some random girl.

Shengchen told Shiyi that he knew she likes him and he likes her.  Well she did like him a whole lifetime ago.

She could not marry him then so she jumped to her death.

She agreed to get engaged.  Her parents like him because Shiyi likes him but it was another thing about his family or at least his mother who when Shengchen brought Shiyi who looked beautiful in a qipao, the mother told her to go away in not so many words.

Shiyi was worried about it but Shengchen said that for him now that they are engaged, there is only one opinion that matters and that’s her.

Episode 3 is particularly sweet with the two flirting up a storm.

Mei Xing, Shengchen’s best friend told him that he saw a girl visiting the old city wall.  He said that he understands how Shengchen proposed to Shiyi immediately because if he sees the girl again he would propose to her as well.

What they had not realised yet was that the girl Mei Xing fell in love at first sight with as Shiyi.

Episode 5

Shiyi and Shengchen is very sedate but they are so in love in a very awkward way.  They have not even hug yet nor kiss.

His family was asking if they were sleeping in the same bed but Shengchen was almost scandalised.

His family wanted Shiyi to go stay with them so she could learn the family ways but Shengchen would not have it.  He said that Shiyi is just perfect the way she was.

Meanwhile, the Zhou family has a very complicated relationship.

His mother was actually his stepmother.

His brother who was marrying Miss Tong, who is in love with Shengchen, is in love with another girl.

His grandma is so lovely but she is forgetful.

Shengchen’s driver, Mr. Lin is actually a member of his family.  BTW, Mr Lin is always shown eating something which looks so delicious.

Episode 6

Shengchen and Shiyi are getting to know one another very slowly but cutely.

Shengchen is rather OCD while Shiyi was not really housewifely as she just gave him cereal in a bowl when he came to have breakfast with her.

Zhou Wenchuan is marrying Tong Jia Ren but he is really in love with Wang Man.

Wenchuan and Wang Man had been dating on and off for years but after another break-up, Wang Man was shocked to find out that Wenchuan was marrying Tong Jia Ren.

The Zhou investment came to a rather nasty surprise when something went wrong with the factory.

Episode 7

It looks like Wenchuan was so jealous of Shengchen that despite being told that Shengchen was locked in the factory, he purposely waited hours to turn up.

Mei Xing, who was with Shengchen said that Wenchuan was a better businessman than Shengchen but he has an evil mind.

Wenchuan married Tong Jia Ren for business reasons.

It is now a hectic preparation for Shengchen and Shiyi’s wedding.

Uncle Lin was very happy to see Shengchen behaving uncharacteristically.

Shengchen kept zoning out about Shiyi.

Episode 8

The first day at the Zhou Mansion was not particularly happy for Shiyi.

For one thing, Mother Zhou banned her from coming to see her saying that she must rest.

Thinking that at least she had Shengchen with her, she was disappointed to find out that he was not sharing the same bed with her, and then he got called away while they were mildly flirting.

Apparently, the pregnant cousin ended up in the pond because Jia Ren pushed for continuously talking about her comparing her to Shiyi.

Shengchen was asked to speak to Tong Jia Ren which he did not particularly fancy.

Poor Shiyi, she wanted to go for a walk before turning in but she was told to stay inside as Mother Zhou would go mental.

Shiyi went to bed and stayed there until late morning.

Mother Zhou was not very pleased as Shiyi should be behaving like an accommodating bride-to-be.

Shengchen said that it was his fault for not telling Shiyi what time breakfast was.

Episode 9

Shiyi met Grandma who told her the complication family history.

Shengchen’s mother was her adopted daughter and Mother Zhou is her own daughter. Shengchen’s father left the family to marry his mother and when Shengchen’s biological mother died, he had to marry Mother Zhou so he could bring Shengchen into the family fold.

But after that Grandma and Mother Zhou never saw eye to eye.

Episode 10

The engagement party was cancelled and not one is more upset than Shengchen himself.

Shiyi told him that she understood given that his pregnant cousin was on a life support machine.

Anyway, they went to break the news to Shiyi’s family.  They were not too happy and assumed quite rightly that Madame Zhou was not enamoured of Shiyi and that she was looking down on Shiyi’s family.

Shengchen told his mother that he was going to be holding an engagement party in Shanghai.  He would like her to come but she just looked at him with her cold indifferent face.

Episode 11

Shengchen put Shiyi in a rather complicated position of asking her to register their marriage, which is actually the legal marriage, in front of his grandma.

Shiyi said that she will think about it and left to go in the toilet to mull over what to do.

So after a few minutes, she came out and agreed to go to the city hall to get married.

To make their transition into being a united married couple, Grandma decided to enter the Zhou mansion.

Though already legally married Shengchen decided to not be so frisky and let Shiyi sleep in her bedroom alone.  This actually rather surprised Shiyi who was left eating the traditional nuts spread over the marital bed.

The next morning, Grandma announced to the family that they should make a pilgrimage to the mountain temple to ask for blessings to Shiyi and Shengchen’s union.

Mother Zhou asked Shiyi to sit with her in the car.  Shengchen was not very happy about it and he was right.

Mother Zhou told Shiyi point blank that though they had registered the marriage, she will never accept Shiyi into the family.

Episode 12

Grandma and Mother Zhou had a heart to heart talk about the Shengchen and why Mother Zhou was not in favour of Shiyi.

Mother Zhou said that Zhou Shengxin had been running the family business for more than 20 years and she reckons that he would not willingly give up the rein to Shengchen.

Without her, she was worried that Shengchen would be pushed out of the family and the business as he had no really blood family.  So she was trying to marry him off to an influential family that could back him up to retain his family and the business.

Aww, she is not completely awful.  We can understand her.

Anyway, Shiyi asked Shengchen how long he was going to be away.

He said two months.

Shiyi asked what was he going to be researching in the German laboratory.

Shengchen said that they will research the possibility of human habitation in Venus.

I must say two months is not enough and even years to research habitation to Venus.  Mars is a better value.

Venus has a greenhouse effect on steroids.

It has a surface temperature of about 900 degrees celsius which would melt lead and atmospheric pressure that would flatten a car.  It has active volcanoes, sulphuric acid in its clouds and that is just for starters.

The Russian’Venera probe which is TOUGHENED AND ARMOURED landed in Venus but lasted an hour before being crushed and boiled.

Episode 13

The newly married Tong Jia Ren and Zhou Wenchuan were already heading for divorce.  It was always a business thing.  Both in love with different people.

Wenchuan had always been in love with the tailor, Wang Man while Tong Jia Ren has been carrying a one sided love for Shengchen since she can remember.

She was back in Germany as her laboratory was also in Germany like Shengchen.

One night, she turned up drunk at Shengchen’s apartment.

Shengchen was not very happy as the only option was to let her sleep on the street.

At the middle of the night, Tong Jiaren woke up and wandered down to where Shengchen was working.

She commented that she was very surprised that he married so quickly and implied that he only married Shiyi so he could get his hands to his inheritance.

Shengchen told her that he does not wish to discuss personal matters with her and that was the end of it.

The next morning, Tong Jia Ren found Shengchen having breakfast with Frank.  They invited her to have brekkie with them which she turned down but Wenchuan turned up and had breakfast with his brother instead.

Anyway, Shiyi went to Germany to be with Shengchen.

She finally met, Mei Xing, Shengchen’s best friend and business manager/lawyer.   Shengchen had given him power of attorney to conduct his newly inherited Zhou Family business to Mei Xing.

Sad for Mei Xing because he realised that the missus of his friend was the woman he saw at the ancient wall which he fell in love at first sight with.

Aww Mei Xing was really in love with Shi Yi.

Episode 14

Shiyi’s visit to Germany was not what she expected. One thing Shengchen was much too busy for her but he did try his best to accommodate her and was actually quite loving to her in his usual awkward nerdy way.

Tong Jia Ren and Wenchuan tried to create a rift between Shiyi and Shengchen by pretending that there is more to the relationship between Shengchen and Tong Jia Ren.

Even Shengchen was scared that Shiyi would be angry and misunderstand what his previous relationship with Tong Jia Ren but Shiyi trusted him and his nerdy way implicitly.   He would not know what to do with girls, much less an affair. Lol

Shengchen took Shiyi to the city but it went wrong when a throng of people with bats started attacking one another and broke the car window opposite where Shiyi was sitting while Shengchen was buying something.  This incident rather traumatised her.

Mei Xing said that he had contacted the police about this and noted that there had been some small little things that had been going wrong since Shiyi arrived.  They wanted to know who was behind it.

Mei Xing arranged for someone to look after Shiyi when she went back home to China.

Episode 15

Mei Xing confronted Wenchuan about his shenanigans concerning Shengchen. Mei Xing warned Wenchuan not to push it. In fact stop what he was doing to harm Shengchen.  He said that Shengchen is his best friend and he would protect him to the limit. He is the opposite of Shengchen, he would not let anything pass,  he will make whoever harms his best friend answerable for it.

Young Shengren had become protective of his cousin-in-law, Shiyi. He started hanging around with her and she thought she has a son and quite like him because she sees him as a young version of Shengchen.

Shiyi told her husband that she has an admirer.

Shengcheng immediately knew who she meant and told her so.  He said he had always known.

She was with her team when she noticed someone familiar by the bridge.

It was Shengchen who had come home to see her.

When they got home, Shengren had gone so alone, Shiyi turned on the heater as it was a cold rainy day.

But after staring at each other for the longest time, Shengchen told her not to bother with the heater because he was going to make her hot.

Promises! promises!  Whoa, what got into you Shengchen?  I thought we had to wait for the last episode before you make a move! Yehey!

Episode 16

The married couple were deciding on the type of house they would like to buy.

Episode 17

Mei Xing was very popular with the girls, including Wenxing.  He told them that he has a poem that is a sort of a riddle and the one who can answer it is his ideal girl.

The three girls said that it was too hard and even the genius Shengchen would not be able to answer.  They forwarded the poem to Shengchen who asked Shiyi to answer it.  She answered it within minutes.  So she is Mei Xing’s ideal girl.

Shengchen moved to Shiyi’s apartment.

They were slowly, and sometimes awkwardly, getting to know each other.

Shengchen wanted to know if Shiyi wanted children. She said she did.

But she can’t really do it all by herself so she got ready for bed and then threw seductive looks at Shengchen who was still working on his research.

She looked cute so Shengchen took the hint and followed her to the bedroom.

He then got to the bed beside her and his foreplay was. “I’m ready.” which seemed enough for Shiyi.

They had a good long passionate night and woken up around mid-morning by Shiya grandparents and Yuan Yuan who had come to visit.

They were shocked that Shengchen was already living with Shiyi not knowing that the two are already legally married.

Episode18

Shiyi and Shengchen were invited to her parents’ house.  They noticed how Shiyi was really into the shy Shengchen who looks adoringly at Shiyi most of the time.  The parents knew that it was a love match especially when Shiyi confided to her mother that she was Shengchen’s first girlfriend.  So she had to lead most of the time as he is really unfamiliar with girls. 🤗

Her mother saw Shiyi stealing a kiss from Shengchen and she was reassured that the two will be alright despite problems with Shengchen’s mother.

Wenchuan divorced Tong Jia Ren and promptly asked Wang Man to marry him.

He then asked Wang Man’s family permission to marry Wang Man.  He told them that he was basically nothing because he was only the second son and does not get to inherit and then he was also a divorced man.

But what Wang Man’s family did not like was that Wenchuan and Tong Jia Ren are not going to reveal for at least a year that they divorced for the sake of family.

So Wang Man and Wenchuan had to be in a hush-hush relationship for now.  Wang Man’s family was not happy.

Episode 19

Shiyi ended up in the hospital because of flu.  Many men were worried about her including Mei Ming.

Grandma begged Mother Zhou to not repeat history by treating Shiyi so appallingly.

It was getting scarier at Xian.

Mei Xing was beaten up by hoods.

When Wei Xing found out about it she went to confront her twin brother to ask him if it was his doing.

He denied it of course.

Episode 20

Shengxing agreed to leave Xi’an to facilitate Shengchen taking over the company.

It was the Ghost Festival so Shengchen and Shiyi returned to Xi’an for the celebration.

Though Mother Zhou was not as fierce as before, it was still pretty awkward for Shiyi and rather lonely.

Wenxing’s heart condition is getting worse, they advised for a heart transplant.

As it was the ghost festival, Shiyi and Wenxing were on a boat; they were releasing flower candles with their wishes.

They were about to go back when Shiyi fell from the boat.  The last thing she needed was a soaking in the cold pond but Wenxing had no choice but to dive in to rescue Shiyi.

Shiyi was in a coma and having a dream of being the Shiyi who was engaged to the crown prince but in love with zhou Shengchen.

Meanwhile, Wenxing was running a fever.

Episode 21

Shiyi woke up from her coma to the relief of Shengchen who stayed with her all the time, never eating or sleeping.

Shengchen went to see Wenchuan and asked him if he had anything to do with Shiyi’s accident.  Wenchuan was actually shocked that Shengchen would think so.

Wen Xing went to see Shiyi and apologised for making Shiyi go on realising the flower candles by boat when she can’t swim.  She said if something had really happened to her Shengchen would not ever forgive her.

Shiyi comforted the distraught Wenxing and told her that Shengchen loves her dearly.

Poor Grandma had gone doolally.

Mother Zhou saw how much Shengchen cared for her mother so she tried to do as her mother requested: Be kinder to Shiyi.

She invited Shiyi and Shengchen to tea in a scenic location.  She quizzed Shiyi why she likes Shengchen.

Shiyi more or less admitted that she was attracted at how boring 😜🤗 Shengchen is.

Mother Zhou said that it looks like that she is the perfect girl for her son, nevertheless she is still not suitable to join the backstabbing Zhou Family.  She said that despite having married to the Zhou for so many years, she was still treated as an interloper.

Shiyi and Shengchen are tightly knit though, no one can tear them apart.

Episode 30

I can’t take it anymore so I jumped right to the ending to see if these two good leads will have HE, Happy Ending.

Well it looks like they would because Shiyi woke up from her coma.

Shengchen told her that they were in Xi’an where they are going to live from then on.

Shiyi wanted to have a baby but Shengchen was not too keen.  He said that he was afraid that she might end up in hospital again especially with childbirth.

But Shiyi said that she wanted a mini-them in case she or Shengchen passed on.  It would be so lonely to be all alone.

Shengchen saw the logic and sentiment of it so he agreed.

They are preparing for their wedding at Xi’an.

Their wedding invitation was handwritten by Shengchen.

Xiao Xu teased Shiyi about it that Shengchen was …

Before she could say that Shengchen is OCD, Shiyi said that Shengchen was just serious of the wedding.

On the eve of the wedding, the lovers were not supposed to meet but they just had to.  They sneaked into the library and stayed together till the morning.

The wedding was a happy one without most of the Zhou clan.

Shiyi was so beautiful in her sequined red qipao wedding dress.

Shengchen tend to do a shortcut to the wedding tradition but Shiyi insisted that they follow through.

After they had the traditional drink with arms entwined, Shiyi told him that she is three months pregnant.

Shengchenwas so happy.

They were both happy.
