Peter with a look of trepidation – the first bite
Peter tasted his first mango dipped in shrimp bagoong in December last year. See his expressions from the photos above. 🙂
My mother knew that I wanted to eat green mango. I told her often enough through my emails. Fresh mango and bagoong are always first on the menu wish-list for every balikbayan (Filipinos going back or visiting the Philippines).
I was in seventh heaven eating my mango when Peter decided to try some too, seeing that I was almost deliriously excited with every crispy bite. He wasn’t too sure at first but it only took that one bite before he got addicted. He loved the bagoong. Can’t get enough of it.
Even my Mother was in hysterics. She can’t believe that an Englishman would eat mango and bagoong like a Filipino trooper.
Actually I was really surprised too. Peter is rather pernickety with food, a self-confessed egg and bacon man. But whilst in the Philippines he tried almost all the food. He can’t get enough of binagoongang baboy and Dinuguan (bloodied pork). He also loves Bopis. But most of all, he loved the Leche Flan which he devoured eagerly like there was no tomorrow! 😉 Yes ,Peter found his Filipino palate whilst in the Philippines and HEARTWARMINGLY FOUND HIS FILIPINO FAMILY AS WELL.
