Eros, Roman’s Cupid
Eros from the Ancient Mythology was the Greek god of Love. He is the to son of the goddess of love herself, Aphrodite and Ares, the Greek god of war. That figures why love is never smooth, why sweetness is always in battle with heartache. 😉
Eros’s equivalent in Roman mythology was Cupid. A boy with his ready stock of love arrows.
Eros is about male lust, love and sex and it is the root word of erotic.
The Shaftesbury Memorial in Piccadilly Circus, London, is popularly mistaken for Eros. In fact, it represents Anteros. Be that as it may, the statue will be getting a bubble protection come Christmas holiday. This is to prevent drunken revelers vandalising it.
Westminster Council will hope to encase the Grade 1 listed 120 year old statue in a clear bubble inflatable protection which when punctured will self inflate. Most object thrown at it will just bounce off. The snow globe is hoped to be an attraction in itself.
