There is nothing better than sit in front of the television with your bowl of popcorn and a dish of Ben & Jerry after a hard day’s work. A duvet day is also a good excuse to dig into your DVDs of favourites.
When the world seems to be so glum, cheer yourself up with mindless laughter and giggle out loud. A good laugh-fest is apparently therapeutic, good for your health.
Who is on your DVD? Whose box set would you watch? What program can you see again and again without getting tired of it?
To remind you, here are just some of the funniest situation comedies on television over the years which are our favourites.
Do you have any, please comment 🙂

Rowan Atkinson is world-famous for playing Mr Bean, his clever visual humour sometimes referred to as slapstick or pratfall, with little or no dialogue needed is popular throughout the world and universal in its appeal.
Rowan is more famous in UK for playing the character Edmund Blackadder in the award-winning very clever and funny Blackadder historical comedy series.

Archer is a great favourite of my husband. I often hear Peter laughing watching Archer. He said Archer is some sort of James Bond, minus the brain. Archer is in cartoon form and yet what is so great about Archer is that he is all too human. Archer who is so politically incorrect, an egotist and chauvinist thinks he is God’s gift to women. He is fixated to and dominated by his mother (who is also is boss). His character traits, and those of the rest of the cast, are beautifully drawn. Despite his hapless and helplessness sometimes, he still able to produce the spy secret agent goods even by accident or good luck. LOL

A gentle understated comedy series; Ronnie Corbett – one half the famous and funny Two Ronnies comedy duo, plays Timothy, a 40-year-old man still living at home with his parents. He is completely dominated by his formidable mother, who interferes in every aspect of his life.
.

I love I dream of Jeannie. I love Larry Hagman before he became more famous as J R Ewing of Dallas.
I love Jeannie’s pantaloons as well.
SOME MOTHER DO HAVE ‘EM

I have to admit I find this sitcom extremely excruciating but somehow sends Peter into hysterics.

DROP THE DEAD DONKEY

This is a topical political satire. So funny and intelligent take on current events.

This is a slapstick funny policy comedy. It is so stupid, it’s funny.

Alan Partridge
He is so funny. He is a vain television host, who is so tactless, he offends most of his guests.

This is a gentle comedy of manners. Lovely for a early weekend evening chill-out.

This was the best, before Mrs Brown’s Boys. It is a well observed family drama/comedy.

OMG! The father is just horrendous.

Hilarious, I am sure we have all got a bit of a Mrs Bucket, pronounced Bouquet, in us.

A prison comedy.

Father Ted was a wonderfully funny situation comedy (sitcom). It was about three misfit Catholic priest who were ‘banished to a tiny remote island off Ireland by the Catholic Church by way of containing them. But the fun begins when this hapless priests continued to create mayhem, though they did not mean to.
My favourite episode was a skit on the eponymous annual Eurovision Song Contest. Ireland kept winning the contest which meant expensive staging of the singing contest. To ensure that they do not win the contest again they opted for Father Ted to write and perform a rather tacky song called ‘My lovely Horse’, ironically this song would make a rather worthy entry for Eurovision. LOL

I love Friends. I can watch it again and again and laugh still. There are so many things that are so hilarious but the thing that makes me giggle uncontrollably was when Phoebe gave Monica a haircut which should have looked like Demi Moore’s but because daft Phoebe mis-heard, Monica ended up with a Dudley Moore. Classic!
I think the funniest character was the hapless Ross. His visit, probably his first and last, to the tanning salon was rib-ticklingly hilarious. As he emerged for the spray tanning machine unable to control it, his changing various shades of brown tan left My husband & I rolling around on the floor laughing so hard.
When Ross decided to smarten himself up for a date with a foxy lady, he went to a dentist to have teeth whitened. Later after their first date, they returned to her apartment. They sit the sofa,to set the mood, she turned off the light and switched on her funky retro ultra-violet lamp.
Ross grins like a Cheshire cat exposing his whitened teeth, which unfortunately glowed brilliantly bright under the UV light. His would-be GF screamed in surprise and shock at seeing his supernaturally dazzling dentures!

Omigod, that is so true. Mr Bean is also Blackadder. I don’t really like Mr Bean. I find him uncomfortable to watch because something is always going to go wrong and I don’t like that.
