Did you know?

The first person credited for carrying an umbrella against the pissing rain of London was Jonas Hanway. He was an English Travel writer and a philanthropist.

It was no easy task carrying umbrella in 1750. He was attacked for it. His critics thought that it was a Godly purpose for rain to wet people. 😉 🙂

It took another 30 years before the habit of carrying an umbrella caught on.

Superstition

  • `It is unlucky to open indoors. Bad luck will rain on you.  Apparently this superstition dates back to Ancient Egypt. Umbrella is meant to protect you from the sun.so opening it indoors is a form of an insult to the Sun God, Ra.
  • In China, opening an umbrella will mean you will not grow taller anymore.
