Mick’s Mix Dahlias

To start with, I was rather confused with the chrysanthemums and the dahlias. At first glance, there were no obvious differences between them until you look closely.

The most obvious tell-tale sign of difference can be found on the leaves. Dahlias have ovate shaped leaves, serrated edges and with a pointed tip. Chrysanthemum has a more delicate appearance. It is lacy and with many contoured lobes.

Chrysanthemums originated in China and are widely added to culinary dishes because of the leaves being rich in minerals.

Dahlias are from Mexico.  They were introduced into Europe in the 1790s.  Napoleon’s Empress Josephine was enamoured of the flowers that she developed hybrids and varieties of the flowers.
