The Meeting Place @ St Pancras Station

 

 

These photos are a couple of years old now.  They were taken at the St Pancras Station by PH Morton in 2012.

These series of sculptures in bronze were the work of Paul Day, a British sculptor born in 1967.

 

Update: February 2020

The St Pancras International had been named the best train station in all of Europe by the Consumer Choice Cente.  This station service 35.6 million passengers a year.

 

The Meeting Place @ St Pancras Station

If you happen to be nearby the St Pancras Station, try to drop in at the Meeting Place and admire the frieze that surrounds the base of the huge figures of a couple kissing, who are obviously happy to see each other again or too loved-up to be parted right at that moment!

It was in 2008 that the high-relief frieze was added to the base of the Meeting Place sculpture as part of refurbishment at St Pancras, featuring images from the history of the Tube and train: people queuing on platforms or traveling in carriages; soldiers departing for war and returning injured, and repair works following the 7 July 2005 London bombings. The work was the object of controversy when first erected, as one panel depicted a commuter falling into the path of a train driven by the Grim Reaper. However, following discussions with London and Continental Railways (LCR), this panel was replaced with another.
