This drama is so good that it has been remade in Korean and currently by Thailand.

The story is about a timid office girl, who would try to do anything and everything to please her office co-workers, who accidentally slept (apparently this can happen 🙂 LOL) with a CEO of a large company.

Three months later, they met again but at this time, the girl found out that she was pregnant.  After a shotgun marriage, the two learned to live together but it was far from smooth sailing.  There were faced it so much emotional upheaval that the girl lost her baby.

Though they loved one another, they thought it was the unborn baby, Doggie Poop, who was holding them together.  So they decided to go on their separate ways.

But as the title says, they were fated to love.  Three years on, they met again.  This time the girl is now successful in her own right so on par with the man.  They finally got together and had a baby or two and lived happily ever after.

Fated to Love You (You’re My Destiny) Dramas

This Taiwanese drama is the original version and stars the very watchable Joe Chen and Ethan Ruan. It was made in 2008. They have a sweet, very touching chemistry.

Joe Chen was perfect to play the girl, Chen Xin Yi (Elaine).  She showed so much vulnerability that you feel for her.  You can see all the gamut of emotions running through her face.  Brilliant actress.

Ethan Ruan was a perfect foil to Joe.  He was arrogant and immature and not sure at first what he really wanted until it was too late.

Love them together.

Also, the other characters were also rather adorable. The Grandma was a darling.

Xin Yi’s sisters were hilarious.

The story would make you cry and love at the antics of the other characters.

I love the Taiwanese version so much but I got curious about this Korean one.

OmG.  I was so pleasantly surprised.  It is of course the same story, with a little tweak here and there, but it is still as fresh.

I have to say Jang Hyuk with his evil incessant laughter made me smile.  I think he has never look handsomer than in this drama.  His floppy curls only made him more masculine, sex on two legs as they say, very fanciable! 🙂

Jang Nara of course is perfect to play the female lead, having the same delicate vulnerable face as Joe Chen.

Their chemistry is so hot, rather sexual.  LOL

The opening scene where Lee Gun (Jang Hyuk) being the CEO of a generational soap corp, controls the ads for their new shampoo.  He was not happy with the model who was behaving like a diva.  So he proceeded to show the director and crew how he wanted the ads to look by doing it himself.  Woah sexy!  This, of course, is the beginning of a very sexy drama.  Fated to Love You (Korean)

The Thai version is very religious in their adaptation of the story.  Both leads are adorable but given a more Thai treatment with all the gangs and guns and stuff.

Also Esther Supreeleela as Wanida had always looked radiant throughout the drama.

The only nod to being plain was wearing a pair of black-rimmed glasses, otherwise, she was gorgeous throughout.

The male lead Pawit was always easy-going and you would sort of think what he sees in the second female lead who was a bit of a bitch.  LOL

All in all, it is still very enjoyable.

 

The leads in this Japanese version, I think, are the most likable.  I love that the male lead is very tall.  His sauntering around in the street with his long manly gait is a treat.

I have to say that I was often left in wonder where he gets all the lovely bars of soap he likes to give away to people.   He often wears wow-tight-jeans/trousers so where does he put them, the soap?!!!

This version ended with Satoh Aya miscarrying the baby and because she was too traumatised and wanted a change of scenery, she opted to go to Okinawa with the second male lead.

She left Kei in tears as he waves her goodbye.

13 April 2019 update – Chinese Version

These Eternal Lovers (Xing Zhaolin & Liang Jie) will remake Ethan Juan and Joe Chen’s iconic Fated to Love You.  Yey.

They just held a filming ceremony.

Love, love, love it.

6 August 2019 Update 

The filming had officially wrapped!

This version follows the framework of the original Taiwanese version.  Though rather sanitised.

Both leads exude electric chemistry as they have worked in several dramas together previously.

They are both good-looking leads and modern, so I feel sometimes that following through the Taiwanese version was a bit senseless at times.

Also Liang Jie often comes over more of a 2D character.  She was so still, she was almost inanimate.

But having said that, it was a good and enjoyable enough version.
