Many Filipino movies are now available on Netflix, one of these was Bride for Rent, which I watched yesterday.
What can I say? Well, I have to say that the leads are very good looking. Apparently, they are actually exclusively dating in real life.
Having watched so many dramas from South Korea, China, Japan and Thailand, I found this Filipino movie to have more in common with those films and dramas from Thailand, where there are many relatives who are noisy and annoying.
Anyway, the lead guy, Rocco, is from a monied background, who can’t forgive his father who left him when he was still young.
Rocco, is spoiled by his grandmother who he calls Lala. What he wanted, he got, including the women and when he had had enough of them, he would dump them unceremoniously.
One thing though, Rocco continues to feel bitter about his father and aspire to get the better of him and reckoned that by ‘stealing’ a contract over his father’s company would be good revenge.
Unfortunately for him, he does not have enough money for the capital to compete with his father over an advertisement contract.
However, he realised that his birthday, his 25 birthday is the next day which would mean his trust fund is released.
He was so overjoyed to realise this that he went to celebrate by drinking, partying and gambling. He lost ten million pesos.
He has two friends and business partners who told him that his trust fund will be released so ten million is nothing.
He went to his lawyers for the will and trust fund.
The lawyer was ready to let him get access to his trust fund upon submission of a marriage certificate.
Rocco was stumped. It was completely news to him that he had to be married in order to get his money.
He called Lala who was somewhere in Europe having stem cells done to her face. Lala confirmed that she mentioned the marriage issue to him one time when he was drunk.
Rocco was desperate for the money especially when the debt collector had started to ask him for the money.
Rocco’s only way out was to get married. He filled the boot of his car with red roses, then one by one he went to his previous girlfriends begging them to marry him. One turned him down point blank, another one was already married, one is unwed matter of three, one is now a lesbian, another had a sex change, etc. No one was suitable.
His friend/employee, Javier suggested that why not have a face marriage and audition actresses for the role.
So they saw many potential and season actress. One of these was Rocky who was so desperate for money as her huge family sleeps in one bedroom apartment. They were being asked to move out as they were very behind with their rent – six months.
Rocky was the last one of a long tedious audition.
Rocky, however, was pretty and bubbly and she was upfront with Rocco that she did not like complicated relationship so he better not fall in love with her.
Two weeks later, Rocco went to see Lala with Rocky.
Lala was enchanted by Rocky so she was annoyed with Rocco for having gotten married in church rather civil ceremony without letting her know nor inviting her at the wedding.
She therefore said that she will arranged for them to remarry in Church.
