Did you know? This film was shot three years ago when Song Wei Long was only about 17 years old.
Apparently, he shared his first screen kiss with Vivian Sung. He was shell-shocked so he can’t look Vivian in the eye directly afterwards. Awww
I have just watched this film and enjoyed it throughout its run of 1 hour and 30 minutes. I had a smile on my face the whole time. Vivian Sung is such an engaging actress, and a joy to watch. Song Wei Long was only seventeen when this film was made. He is a good actor.
The leads had very good chemistry. Really watchable, and I totally recommend it for a fun uncomplicated youth romance.
To be honest, the film is so simple and the version of this story may have been done a million times. And yet there is a freshness to it because of the leads and the rest of the cast.
Zhao Lin Lin is a very energetic girl, she loves life. She grew up carefree and sure of herself. Her parents run a general store and she would often ‘steal’ lollipops to eat and give to friends.
She is also very caring to others. She would not allow anyone bullying others. She fights with her pseudo kungfu which surprises the bullies.
Fang Yu Ke was a neighbour. He was a nerd, wore glasses and braces. He was rather timid as well. But he fell in love with Lin Lin even when they were only seven years old.
Lin Lin was not a raving beauty, but she was confident and kind. She used to give him lollies from their shop.
YuKe used to go to Lin Lin shop to buy pencil almost every day just to see the gregarious Lin Lin. One time instead of giving him another pencil to buy, she conspiratorially gave him a red pen instead.
This red pen had become a mainstay in Yu Ke’s top pocket until they were in college.
Lin Lin was completely unaware of Yuke feelings. During high school, they became strangers.
YuKe unknowingly became the bane of Lin Lin’s life. Her mother had told Lin Lin that she had to emulate YuKe whose bedroom lights can be seen illuminating YuKe’s shadow deep in study. He would study until late at night.
Lin Lin’s mother had told her that she was not going to stop studying for her NCEE until the light on Yu Ke’s bedroom was turned off.
Lin Lin devised a plan to get YuKe to turn off his light earlier.
She sent a love letter to the school beauty, Ru Ting, supposedly from YuKe and she did the say to YuKe (a love letter from Ru Ting)
She then noticed that for a week, Yuke bedroom’s light was off.
She was so happy that she started singing and dancing by her veranda and then she was upset again as Yu Ke’s light was back on again.
She was studying hard while YuKe was devising a strategy to be able to go to the same university and the same course as Lin Lin.
The result of the exam was published and Lin Lin was so happy to be able to go to one of the country’s better universities, the China Eastern University in the Department of Animal Husbandry.
YuKe was successful as well, he got to the same uni and course just like how he had planned it. Animal Husbandry was not his parents and professors first choice for him but he was happy.
Yuke and Lin Lin were given a honour’s parade by their proud neighbours for going to a top-notched university. They were the pride of their street.
Lin Lin and YuKe went to college at the same time.
YuKe was there to help her put her luggage on the overhead compartment of the train and she felt a frisson with YuKe. Perhaps this was the time she unconsciously fell in love with YuKe.
When they got to university, YuKe treated her as his childhood sweetheart and he was telling everyone about it which Lin Lin would deny especially to a handsome Xiao Xi who showed interest in her.
The high school beauty, Ruting was also enrolled at the same university and she was after YuKe again.
Lin Lin thought that Ruting dumped Yuke. And now she thinks that Yuke was using her to make Ruting jealous.
Lin Lin decided to help Ruting and YuKe to get together after Ruting asked her to bring YuKe to her birthday party.
Lin Lin decide to help Yuke get rid of his nerdy look for the party. She also taught him how to dance. YuKe was only too willing to do everything Lin Lin wanted him to do.
During the party, Lin Lin was happy drinking shots with Xiao Xi. Everyone stopped on their tracks when a drop-dead gorgeous YuKe arrived for the party.
Ruting flirted with him and wanted to have her first birthday dance with him but Yuke said his first dance will be with his girlfriend.
He then saw Lin Lin with Xiao Xi. He pulled Lin Lin away from Xiao Xi. He said that she was his childhood sweetheart, he then started dancing with her, after a couple of minutes he gave her a long kiss.
Lin Lin was shocked as she woke up in YUKe’s uncle’s apartment which he allows Yuke to use. Before she can hyperventilate that Yuke changed her into her pyjamas, her friend shouted from the couch that she did the honour.
But still, she had her first kiss with YuKe.
She had to punish him and she did, she would send him to some seriously strange and embarrassing errands at all time of the day and night. YUKe was quite happy to do her bidding.
She finally started to realise that she might actually like YuKe but saw him hugging Ruting. She was gutted.
The last straw for her was when their professor in animal husbandry who tasked them to look after a rabbit individually but Lin Lin ended up looking after all the animals, had now asked them to do euthanasia to their rabbits.
This was just too much for Lin Lin. She refused to kill the rabbit.
The professor said that she had to cooperate with someone from the humanities department to do a project if she does not want the rabbits euthanised.
Ruting put herself forward as her project partner but Lin Lin did not want anything to do with her because Ruting said that she did not particularly like YuKe. It is just that she does not want anyone else to have him either.
With a truck, Lin Lin loaded it with the cages of the rabbits and took them away to the mountain near the sea.
This was where YuKe found her, wading into the sea. He ran after her thinking she was going to drown herself. But she was actually trying to fish out her shoe.
YuKe confessed to her properly. That she was always been the only since they were seven. She might have forgotten it but the red pen he had always kept in his pocket was the pen she gave him.
Lin Lin said that probably RuTing had dumped him and making do with her again.
YuKe said that Ruting never dumped him. When they were in high school, he tutored Ruting but told her that he was in love with someone else.
Ahhh
The ending was that she was about to be expelled from university but her schoolmate stood behind her. They told the professor that Lin LIn was so kind. She looked after all the rabbits, ergo she cannot allow them to be euthenised.
