This drama is the Chinese version of the Kdrama, Happy Home.
It has the same story framework, etc.
The male lead number is Vaness Wu, his role was adjusted. He was not having an affair with his mother’s PA.
And it was Cecilia Cheung’s character who was infertile and not Qiao Zhi who in his Korean counterpart had a vasectomy.
If you had watched the Kdrama, this Chinese version is a doddle to watch. I did a lot of fast-forwarding and finished all 46 episodes in one sitting.
In comparison, the original Korean version is far better; if you are after a good sobbing cry then watch the original.
The story is about the Wan family. The patriarch had just opened his Chinese restaurant, greatly helped by his daughter in law, who was an intuitive cook.
Unfortunately, the daughter in law was married to the no-good son of the family. This hopeless husband was surprised one day by the arrival of a one-night-stand who came with a baby in tow and introduced it as the Wan’s only grandson.
The daughter-in-law tried to come to terms with her husband’s drunken one-night-stand but she later found out that her husband was avidly trying to build a relationship with the mother on his new son.
Competely disillusioned, the daughter in law moved out and opened her own restaurant directly in competition with Big Reunion, her father-in-law’s restaurant.
The leads Song Qiao Zhi and Wan Jia Ling had been married for ten years. They had a son who died from a car accident.
It has been three years since their son’s death and Jia Ling had yet to come to terms with the passing of their son.
She had kept the son’s bedroom into his shrine. She cleans it everyday and she could be often heard howling in grief.
She was often demented with sorrow that her relationship with her husband which was once loving and tender had now turned rather remote.
Most nights he would spend it in hotels.
Though it was platonic, he would go on date nights to the apartment of his mother’s PA, who was his childhood friend.
One night, Jia Ling was bringing a cup of coffee to Qiao Zhi’s study when she found him in a tight embrace with the PA.
Qiao Zhi was actually very shocked that the PA was trying to molest him. He told her that his house is sacrosanct to his life with his wife. He was so annoyed that she tried to seduce him under his roof.
This scene was more emotive in the Korean version. The husband was really having an affair with the PA who tried to kiss and hug him which was seen by his wife. In Kdrama version, the husband was almost murderously furious with the PA. He said that he had told her often enough that inside his house with his wife, she was not to touch him.
The house is solely his wife’s domain.
Anyway, a doctor came into the scene and noted how Jia Ling seemed to be nervously lying all the time.
The doctor is handsome but he has his own issue. He was the attending surgeon at the couple’s son’s surgery which was not successful. He had carried the guilt that he had killed the boy with his over-confidence.
Anyway, he can’t help falling for Jia Ling.
Jia Ling separated from her husband and was free to find her happiness with the doctor.
But then she found out that Qiao Zhi had terminal illness.
Cry, cry, cry.
Worse ending, repeated closet. 50eps fr nothing. Waste of time.
Follow this up with the film, But Always and you will be pulling your hair out in the end. Keep safe!
