Episode 1
Lan Fei and Gim Hong seemed to have an ideal family life. They are still loved up after having a young son. They live in a comfortable apartment. Gim Hong is absolutely ambitious and becoming more prominent in the field of architecture.
In fact they were becoming prosperous and Gim Hong had gotten them a plushier apartment, which was fully furnished with state of the art furniture and appliances.
But it seemed it was just a matter of time before everything comes tumbling down.
Gim Hong had made his secretary, Joey, his secret lover with the understanding that there will be no string attached because his family will always come first.
Anyway, Lan Fei had two best friends who protect her and she does them. They were Si Lieu and Joanna. They were somehow connected with Gim Hong in terms of business so they were also fairly close to him.
One day, Gim Hong was going on a business trip. It so happened that Lan Fei was free with her child being looked after by relatives or nanny (?)
Her friends dragged her to act as an assistant to their jaunt in Japan but actually it was really for a shopping spree.
At the airport, Lan Fei happened to see her husband with Joey. The normally dowdy Joey was all smart and sexy.
Si Lieu and Joanna immediately zeroed in that something was not quite right.
Lan Fei, as usual, trusted her husband who seemed happy to see her.
In Japan, it was business for her husband who was looking for a female CEO who seemed to have undercut Gim Hong’s company’s latest project, ergo they lost it.
Gim Hong was on his way to see the CEO when Joey tried to waylay him. He told her to go back to Hong Kong. They were never serious, she had told him that she was just gathering memories and nothing else and it was now finished.
Joey was far from being finished.
Anyway, Gim Hong went saw the CEO. Joanna whose joint in Japan was to interview the CEO herself for her real estate/architectural program. She overheard the conversation between Gim Hong and the CEO. They had a more personal relationship more than business.
Joanna confronted Gim Hong about his affairs with both Joey and the CEO.
Gim Hong said that Joanna must not interfere because he loved both his wife and son more than anyone in the world.
Meanwhile, someone from the HR of Gim Hong’s company called Joey to warn her that she might have upset Gim Hong because he orders a termination package to be prepared ASAP of Joey.
Joey was in a vengeful mood and went to look for Lan Fei who was relaxing in the spa. Joey told Lan Fei all about her affair with Gim Hong and that Lan Fei was now past her sell-by date. She was old with the body of an old woman who can hardly please a man anymore.
Lan Fei was shocked. But she had a presence of mind not to confront her husband immediately. She said that if everything passes, she will just make herself more indispensable to her husband, thus he would never leave her.
Gim Hong was slightly perturbed but he reckoned that love is dime a dozen. He wanted to reach the top of his business at whatever cost.
There is a peripheral character that they unintentionally meet in Japan. He was Wing Ho Tin who was handsome and rich but had been dumped by his latest girlfriend.
He was not so much upset about the girl but of being dumped because it was a new experience to him which he did not much care for.
He promised himself that he will dump future girlfriends while they were still obsessed with him.
Good start!
Episode 2
Fei Fei forgave her husband straight away. He said that he can’t help having women throw themselves at him and then being responsible for their delusion that he has mutual feelings for them. He was so good!
He then told her that she was irreplaceable and he has only her in his heart and holds to her hands only until he lets go.
He let go fairly easily when she accidentally revealed to Morgan, his boss, that Gim Hong wanted a lot of money to pump into the Beijing project.
Apparently he was actually the one who derailed the company’s project by working secretly with the opposition (the female CEO) and that meant fraud.
He was fired and will not work in Beijing again.
So he left his wife and kid but did promise that he will come back after he had sorted his business.
Meanwhile, Fei Fei is penniless as she had transferred all the monies from their family war chest into her husband’s accounts.
All she had left was her son and the new flat that she had to pay a mortgage on. So as there were extra bedrooms, she decided to rent them out.
In come, Wing Ho Tin who barged in and wanted to rent a specific room in her new apartment. The room is directly opposite the new flat his ex-girlfriend was not living with her new boyfriend. He was planning to spy on them and see everything they do.
Episode 3
The second bedroom she rented to was to a single mother with a young baby.
She was mysterious and seemed unsure of how to look after the baby. This was found by Wing Ho Tin who saw her mixing the milk powder with cold water.
They found out later that the lady was a girlfriend who was forced to have an abortion and then got dumped then found out that her ex had a baby with someone else. It got hairy for a while until the police got involved.
Wing Ho Tin and Little Kai-kai were getting closer like brothers. While Wing Ho Tin treats Angela like his older sister.
With the help of her two friends, they found out that her husband had left Hongkong, he was in fact in Beijing.
Episode 25
Seriously?!!!
Why kill off the nicest, kindest character in this drama? Why kill the adorable Jonathan?
Ahn Sing Gong was obsessed with Jonathan.
Jonathan told her during a yacht party that he will never marry her because he was in love with Man Fung Wa.
Ahn Sing Gong jumped into the middle of the ocean and Jonathan had to go after her. A shark got one of Ahn Sing Gong’s legs.
Jonathan drowned but he was revived long enough to say his goodbyes to everyone.
Everyone was saddened by the passing of the lovely Jonathan. Fung Wa had a falling out with Lan Fei because Lan Fei did tell her once that she will never have a good relationship like marriage with anyone because she was going to get her karma from sleeping around with married men.
In the end, they did make-up but Fung Wa had to leave the country to heal.
Ho Tin also left Hong Kong for the UK to pursue his medical degree, He finally understood his dad that bumming around for the rest of his life will not make him a better person for Lan Fei. In order to be able to compete seriously with Lan Fei’s ex-husband, he should be an able person.
This drama seemed to hint for another series because Ho Tin went to England with Lady Sui, the woman who adopted Jonathan. She said that a note was left on baby Jonathan. He was apparently a twin. So the search for the twin would make for a good conclusion to this drama.
Anyway, 6 years later, Lan Fei’s ex-husband was more chilled after he was arrested for fraud. He lost his business but he just started another one which was booming. Lan Fei’s father said that he was a terrible son in law but he was a better son so they were bonding.
Ho Tin came back from England. The first one he met was Lan Fei’s son.
He arranged with the boy a date with his mother.
Lan Fei had become quite a celebrity chef.
So these two at least have a happy ending.
