Episode 1

I love love the new kdrama, Mr Queen, which is apparently based on this drama.  So here I am watching, reviewing and summarising this 2015 Chinese original version.

Zhang Peng is a playboy.  He had too many girls that it got uncomfortable for him during another party.

He fell into a pool where another woman had also fallen.  He was going to save her but she kicked him on the head with her stilleto.

He was losing consciousness when he just managed to see a floating fabric of dark pin and white.

When he woke up, he immediately realised that he has a pair of boobs.  He then spoke and he sounded like a girl.

After closely examining himself on a full-length mirror, it dawned on him that he had become transgender.

He was flummoxed.  He thought that if he had to time travel or reincarnate, he would been a suave gentleman.

Anyway, he learned more about his new self from Lu Li, his personal maid.  He is now a crown princess called Zhang Pengpeng.

Zhang Pengpeng was saved from drowning by the 9th prince and it was widely believed that she was pushed by Ying Yue, the crown prince’s mistress.

Zhang Peng thought that the only way to go back to his own timeline was to die.  He tried committing suicide in various ways but his effort was thwarted every time.

He then heard that the Crown Prince was kneeling in front of the palace to beg the queen to let Ying Yue go.

Episode 2

Peng/Pengpeng confessed that Ying Yue had nothing to do with her drowning and begged the queen to release  Ying Yue.

Pengpeng also begged for the queen to punish her by death.

The Queen only got mad at Crown Prince.

At this point, this drama is making me laugh so much but honestly, I still love the kdrama more.

Kdrama did not go this far, I mean it was not as saucy with heaving bosoms and bare legs while being ogled by Pengpeng.

Pengpeng even went to a brothel while her husband was away on a mission.

She met the 9th Pince at the brothel’s gents.

Episode 3

The crown prince is back and he was paying particular attention to Pengpeng during a dinner given in his honour.

He did whisper to her not to get any ideas as it was just for show for his Queen Dowager.

PengPeng had such a laugh when she saw Prince Zhao wearing a green hat.

Prince Zhao is such an innocent.  Pengpeng thought that he did not know that wearing a green hat means his wife is cheating.

The Crown Prince who is the Third Prince seemed to be always in competition.

Lu Li asked Pengpeng to meet her in the garden.

Pengpeng thought that her saucy baby wanted a romantic walk in the garden.

Yang Yan then appeared and pulled Pengpeng in the shadow to watch a couple.

Pengpeng saw that the woman was Ying Yue and the man was her husband.

Pengpeng was not bothered in fact she and Yang Yan started chanting ‘kiss, kiss’ when the atmosphere between the couple became heated.

The crown prince found her and told her to abstain.

Episode 4

I must admit some of the humour here are puerile.  Farting and breaking wind!!!

Anyway, Pengpeng is beginning to attract the interest of Crown Prince.

She did a sizzling tango with Lu Li; the Crown Prince could not take his eyes off them.

Anyway, Pengpeng confessed to him that she was from the 2015 and when she woke up after the pond incident, she was back 1000 years from her timeline.

Ying Yue who was hiding in one of the screen door told the crown prince later that Pengpeng seemed crazy.

The crown prince though said that he had read the same story from an ancient book.

Episode 5

For Daughter’s day, the crown prince took Pengpeng back to her family.  It so happened that Ying Yue was also there as Pengpeng’s family had adopted Ying Yue when her parents died.

Pengpeng’s mother humiliated Ying Yue but the Crown Prince intervened.

Pengpeng’s mother though told him off as Ying Yue was a part of the family and needed disciplining and has nothing to do with him.

Pengpeng just left them to it and went drinking with baby/Lu Li.

Episode 6

Pengpeng actually thought she spent a passionate night with Lu Li.  She made Lu Li promised that they would do more of the same when they get back home.

Lu Li, not fully understanding what she was talking about, agreed easily.

In the carriage, she noticed the kiss mark on the Crown Prince neck.  She teased him endlessly about his passionate night with Ying Yue.  She kept going on and on about, the Prince told him to get out of the carriage.

She was invited to a football match.

She was playing on the team with the 9th Prince.  Their team was winning because she was so good.

It ended badly because Ying Yue plotted for Pengpeng to nudge her and her clothes came undone.

She was slapped by the crown prince which humiliated her.

Episode 7

Pengpeng woke up with a hand stroking her reddened slapped face.  She thought it was baby but it was the crown prince who brought her a medicine powder to apply to her face.

Episode 8

The 9th Prince take her on a date.  When she got home the Crown prince was waiting for her.

The next morning, he told her to prepare to visit a military barracks.  She actually arrived early but almost got assassinated but was saved by the Yang Yan and the 9th Prince.  They sort of told her that the assassination must have been arranged by her husband.

But then more assassins came when the Crown Prince finally arrived.

The crown prince and the 9th prince had to work together to fight the assassins.

Episode 9

The old emperor had died suddenly.  The crown prince is the new emperor.

Episode 10

Peng Peng had not seen the Emperor lately.

She was talking to Lu LI about it when the Emperor suddenly turned up and dragged her somewhere.  He confirmed that she was his Empress but he wanted to tell her that he had moved in Ying Yue to the palace to get away from the violent Prince Zhao.

Peng Peng went to see Ying Yue with the Emperor.

Ying Yue was overacting to make herself looks ill and pathetic.

Pengpeng took the chance to grope Ying Yue.

Episode 13

The Emperor was trying to break up with Ying Yue but she won’t accept it.

Episode 14

Ying Yue is pregnant and told the Emperor that she wanted her baby recognised by him.  He agreed because the baby will be his flesh and blood.

The emperor was shocked though and does not want to tell Peng Peng.

But the news got around already.

Pengpeng relatives bribed a doctor to examine her and to say that she is pregnant as well.

Pengpeng later found out from Lu Li that it was a fake diagnosis.

The emperor came to visit her and she told him that she was happy that Ying Yue was pregnant as well. She was glad that their baby will have a playmate.

The Emperor got more upset thinking that she was being sarcastic.

Episode 15

Ying Yue set up Pengpeng.  She accused Pengpeng of steading the only painting done by the Emperor.

The Emperor had it investigated by the 9th Prince and also by his secret agent and found out the truth immediately.

Episode 16

The Queen Dowager found out that Ying Yue was pregnant.  She gave Ying Yue and abortion pill.

Peng Peng hurried to be with Ying Yue who confessed to her that she was never pregnant anyway.

Peng Peng was genuinely upset for her.

She thought that it was about time to carry out a fake miscarriage for her fake pregnancy.

But Dr Zhang told her that she was genuinely pregnant.

Peng Peng was so shocked.

When the Emperor came to see her, she told him that she cannot have the baby.  She said that if she has the baby it would only make her clan more powerful.

The Emperor said that he would always choose the baby and warned her not to lose the baby because he would never forgive her if she does.

The Emperor went to see Ying Yue.  He told her that she was getting out of control.  He told her that he liked her because she was kind and gentle but at the moment Peng Peng is the kind and understanding person.  He finally broke up with her.  He told Ying Yue that he can stay at the villa or she can leave but the villa is not hers.

Episode 35

This drama has an alternate ending which is episode 36.

In Episode 1, Peng Peng and the king reconciled.

The king wanted to know when she first fell for him.

She told him that she had an inkling when he left to lead the military to war in the Northern Territory.  She said her heart was breaking but someone she can’t say what she really wanted to say to him as a farewell.

She knew for sure when he took an arrow aimed at her.

She then said that she only has 50 percent of him in her heart because that is the only way she can cope with being a wife but a subordinate to him.  She will never be a priority in his life being an Emperor.

She will only love him wholeheartedly when they stand on equal footing.

5 years later…

The Emperor kidnaps her from her bedroom and took her to a beautiful lodge in a snowy mountain.

She loved it and the Emperor said he was glad because they will stay there forever/

He had already passed the throne to their genius 6 years old son. Huh!

They behaved like honeymooners and really having a lovely time.

She woke up on her birthday and went to find Qi Sheng.

She runs outside happily and saw a heart shape full of beautiful flower petals.

She was dancing inside the heart when she saw the Qi Sheng watching her happily from the lodge.

And then when she turned around, a sword was embedded into her stomach.

Qi Sheng could not believe it and run to her.

There were surrounded by assassins and finished them both.

Meanwhile, in 2015 Zhang Peng woke up from his coma.

He immediately went to the scene where he fell on the pool.  He dived and ended up 1000 years ago.  He went to the places where Qi Sheng and Peng Peng were.

Episode 36

This episode is more of the same only it differs when she was on her birthday heart, Qi Sheng joined her and they were happy but they seemed to vanish.

Then 2015, Zhang Peng woke up all confused.  He left his hospital bed and saw a doctor… who looked like Qi Sheng.

They stared at one another for the longest time…

Does this mean they were going to be having a BL romance?!!!

 

Despite the rather disappointing ending, I really enjoyed this drama.  There was a lot of laughter to be had.  It has a tongue in cheek humour.  Never took itself seriously.

Love it.

Third ending…

Qi Sheng and Peng Peng were kissing but did not hear the director shouting “Cut!”

The director told them to continue kissing somewhere else and they did in a modern setting of the 21st century on a busy pavement.
