Episode 1
The King is coming of age so it was time to find him a queen.
An edict was issued that the bride would be chosen from the noble families as announced by the Grand Chancellor.
The young king was only a figurehead, a puppet king while the Chancellor is the one ruling. He leads the army.
Anyway, the king knew that he had no choice but to kowtow to everything the Chancellor says.
The one thing he wanted to decide for himself was his bride. He wanted the most perfect woman, the most beautiful and competent in the four arts and sciences.
But then the Chancellor said that he had the perfect queen for her, it was his daughter.
The King was aghast but still, he sneaked into the mansion of the Chancellor to see if his daughter was pretty. He noticed that she not only beautiful but looks really kind and elegant.
He thought that Liu Baiyu was so perfect and he was being narrow-minded for being prejudiced against her because of her father.
It became a done deal when Queen Dowager manipulated him into getting married to the daughter of the Chancellor.
Meanwhile, in Xianpa Village, there was a feisty buxom girl who was considered the belle. She was being forced to marry Yu Changya, her childhood sweetheart to lift the curse that has been plaguing the village.
The girl said that her heart only belongs to Xuan. She was betrothed to Xuan by their fathers.
Her mother told her to leave the village immediately and head for the Capital and meet her father.
Her father was Liu Xie, the Chancellor.
The girl was shocked because the Chancellor was known for being a nasty individual. Anyway, she went to the Chancellor and he was glad to see her and told her that she was to be married the next day to Xuan.
The Chancellor told his daughter that her new name is Liu Jinfeng.
He told her that Xuan is the King.
The wedding went ahead.
During the bed-chamber ceremony, the King noticed that his bride seemed to have gained weight in just a day. He lifted her veil and got shocked because he had a different bride.
Later on, the King summoned the Chancellor to demand what was going on.
He was shown an edict of his father betrothing him to the Chancellor’s daughter.
Again, the King said that he will use a different tactic against the Chancellor and see who Liu Jinfeng really is.
Episode 2
Currently, Jinfeng is just annoying.
And Xuan was annoyed with her as well as she was too pushy.
The Queen Dowager, the Consort Queen, etc were surprised to see Baiyu visiting. They thought she was the queen.
They asked who then is the queen?
Xuan came in with Jinfeng and they could not believe how plain she was and fat.
Before the senior queens could become nasty to Jinfeng, Baiyu told them that his father said to check if Jinfeng was well treated at the palace.
Episode 3 – 4
Li Hong Yi is gorgeous.
Jinfeng was grounded and made to stay in her manor with three maids who thought her to do her make up.
But what they taught her was to cake herself in make up which would make her a laughing stock.
Jifeng got away from her jailors, the maids and sneaked into the morning court where Liu Xie was setting up the Emperor,.
Jifeng stopped the proceeding and said that Liu Xie was being disrespectful of the king and queen.
Yunzhang can’t help but smirk.
Anyway, Yunzhang continued to test Jifeng’s loyalty and found out that she was not particularly fond of her father.
Anyway, Yunzhang started to train Jifeng to become a queen.
Episode 5
Yunzhang was not taking any chances though he was beginning to trust Jifeng but still he still put her through another secret test.
He told his manservant to tell Jifeng that Yunzhang suffers from strong asthma and it needed a poison to cure the poison in his body. All he needed was a drop or two of the poison each time which is added to his food.
Jifeng’s servant saw that the Queen poured the whole bottle into the soup and reported it to the King.
The King thought that finally the Queen was showing her true colour. She was going to poison him. So when she brought in the soup, he made all kind of excuses not to eat the soup.
Ate the soup instead because she does not want it to go to waste as it was better to eat it hot and it would be profligate not to consume it, especially since she use a full bottle of invigorating spring water to it.
The King realised that she did not use the poison.
The Queen is growing on me. She is so cute.
Still the king put her through another secret test. He took her to the mountain, expecting that she was going to make her move to kill him. Instead, she protected and carried him on her back when he started having an attack of asthma.
She took him to a cave and really look after him. He felt rather grateful to her and became freindlier.
Episode 6
It was the Relative Banquet at the palace where Jifeng met all of the King’s kin.
Her mother was supposed to come but she did not turn up until Liu Xie arrived with her.
Jifeng’s mother was hit with everyone because she took no nonsense from Liu Xie.
Later on, Jifeng curiously asked why her father indulged her too much.
She was just about to say something but they got interrupted by a servant inviting them to promenade with the Queen Dowager.
Behind the scene, the King prepared a surprise attack on Liu Xie who seemed unbeatable at first but then the crossbow arrow came raining down on him.
For some reason, I am getting the feeling that the Grand Chancellor was not really a baddy, but I don’t really know.
Episode 7
Jifeng finally found out that the King was never her penpal. It was her father that had been writing to her.
