Episode 1
Jiang Guang Ming was a member of the Criminal Bureau but having been injured during a mission, she was assigned into an admin job in the registration while she recuperated.
There was a case that was becoming more complicated by the minute. It was a rape murder. The perpertrator was apprehended but behemently denied committing the murder. He testified that he committed robbery and rape but he did not murder his victim.
The case was given to Jiang Guang Ming as she was deemed ready to resume investigative policing. Her husband, Xu Kang was not happy about it. He said that she should have discussed the matter with him rather than telling him she had accepted it. He said they agreed already to try for a baby. Xu Kang remembered that they had hardly anytime together when she was on active duty in the Criminal Bureau. Jiang Guang Ming assured him that there is no reason whatsoever why they can’t try for a baby right now. Xu Kang was slightly mollified.
Anyway, Jiang Guang Ming said that she does not mind Shi Luo joining her team.
Actually, Shi Luo was not so confident that Jiang Guang Ming should be leading the team because she had been away from the ‘active’ job for quite a while while doing admin and ID Registration. Shi Luo was reminded that Jing Guang Ming was from the Criminal Bureau.
Anyway, the investigation started. They interviewed the perpetrator, the man was adamant that he did not commit murder. Shi Luo said to Jiang Guang Ming later that the man was lying because he kept looking to the right side upwards. Jiang Guang Ming asked him where he got the information. Shu Luo said from a crime novel. Jiang Guang Ming laughed it off. She reckoned that the man was telling the truth but still there is something else he was not telling so they had to investigate the matter thoroughly.
Shi Luo was really into crime novels in a big way. In fact he is also a member of crime novel afficionados who meets up in a bookstore to discuss what they were currently reading. Shi Luo said he had just bought a book called Black Rain which was pretty good. The book was written by Gu Yu Ming. The novel nerds did not realise that Gu Yu Ming was in the same bookshop overhearing them. As Shi Luo read an except from the book, he got really excited. He realised that the scene in the book was a picture-perfect description of the current crime scene of the murder rape his team was investigating.
Shi Luo left the group hurridly. He then showed the book to the team. He came up with the most bizzare idea that Gu Yu Ming was the murderer. The team looked at him rather perplexed but he quoted Sherlock Holmes.
“when you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth?”
Episode 2
I am loving this drama. There are so many entertwining layers.
Anyway, Shi Luo called in sick so he could go to the City of Fanglai where Gu Yu Ming was giving a lecture at his old alma mater.
After the lecture, there was an answer and question. Shi Luo managed to ask Gu Yu Ming if his novel are based from reality. Gu Yu Ming said that his novels are pure fiction. Shi Luo mentioned that a scene in Black Rain was a carbon copy of crime scene in Qingming. Gu Yu Ming said it was all coincidence.
Anyway, Shi Luo would not give up easily. He went to the little publishing house that Gu Yu Ming worked in as an Editor. Shi Luo found out that Gu Yu MIng was nowhere near Qingming on 18 June during the Dragon Boat Festival and when the robbery rape murder case happened. He learned that all flights were cancelled because of thunderstorm.
This information, opened a can of worm for Jiang Guang Ming. Because on that same day, she had accident while in a mission. Xu Kang who was away on a business trip suddenly turned up in the hospital. Now, she questioned Xu Kang again of the incident how he could come home from a business trip if all the flights were cancelled.
Guang Ming also noticed that Xu Kang who said he did not go to work but rather stayed at home could rack up 12,000 steps.
Guang Ming knew her husband was having an affair. Cheating on her for more than a year and she did not know anything because she trusted him. She said she was a police officer for goodness’sake. What really hurt her was that he looked down on her. Xu Kang apologised profusely but Guang Ming was not ready to forgive. She found out that her husband is dating Chen Wei Wei.
Meanwhile, Shi Luo seemed to made quite an impression to Gu Yu Ming because he recalled seeing him first in the bookstore. Gu Yu Ming is now a popular author, vastly different when he was just starting when he used to bootlick Wang Hong Bo, a mega-rich and influential publishing agent, who happens to be the father of Zhen Zhen. Wang Hong Bo still look down on Gu Yu Ming and refuses to approve a marriage with Zhen Zhen.
Episode 3
It looks like Gu Yu Ming is in the clear at the moment because he might not have written Black Rain but a ghostwriter.
The search of zhang Qing’s dog (the murdered woman) continues.
There was another strong suspect, a writer called Tang Xun who was seen feeding Pepper’ the missing dog a few days before the incident.
Shi Luo was impressed with Guang Ming and asked her to be his mentor. It was Shi Luo who found out the witness who noticed Tang Xun. Shi Luo immediately went to Guang MIng’s house where he met Xu Kang. Shi Luo was impressed with Xu Kang. He seemed an attentive husband. But the next day, in between investigation, Shi Luo was in the car with Guang MIng on their way to the civil registration court. He was shocked but understood immediately because Guang MIng did behave coldly during dinner the previous night.
Xu Kang did not turn up for the divorce registration.
Anyway, Guang MIng and Xu Kang found out that their suspect Tang Xun had already died of lung cancer. They continued to investigate him though and travelled to meet Tang Xun’s wife. The wife was helpful, but when they were gone, the wife hid Tang Xun’s manuscript.
Episode 4
Jiang Na cleans room of Tang Xun at the hotel.
Episode 5
Jiang Na and Tang Xun became chummy after Jiang Na found out that Tang Xun was keeping a dog in his room. Pets are prohibited at the hotel so Jiang Na would often sneak out Pepper to to walk him.
Guang Ming was reading Tang Xun’s manuscript which was given to Jiang Na when she just suddenly fainted.
Episode 6
When she woke up she was in the hospital. Shi Lou was scolded by a nurse for not looking after his pregnant wife.
Shi Lou was shocked. Guang Ming asked Shi Lou where the manuscript she was reading. Shi Lou raced back to the hotel but told that the manuscript had been thrown away because it was on the floor. Poor Shi Lou had to chase after the rubbish truck but when he finally found the manuscript they are rather useless.
It looked like Jiang Na copied the new novel that Tang Xun was working on. It was the perfect description of the murder scene in Qingjiang.
Episode 7
Flashback: Tang Xun was spotted by Pepper the dog who chased after him but there was a naughty boy who scared the dog. Pepper was wearing the lead, which was the murder weapon used on Zhang Qing.
Xu Kang turned up at Fanglai City, having found out from his mother-in-law that Guang Ming was pregnant.
He told Guang Ming that he was going to look after her because whether they ended up divorce, he is still the father of their child. He came prepared with many provisions for the comfort of Guang Ming.
Meanwhile, Zhenzhen opened a pottery shop. She invited Guang MIng and Shi Lou to the inauguration. Gu Yu Ming was surprised to see them but they did not stay long.
Yu Ming asked Zhen Zhen why she invited the cops. Zhen Zhen said that she clicked with Guang Ming.
Yu Ming started to remember the first time he saw Zhen Zhen. He was still a straggling writer trying to get someone to publish his novel but no one was really interested. He saw Zhen Zhen driving away with a beau. For some reason, he followed them and later saw their car rolling over and ended up hanging on a ravine. He managed to rescue Zhen Zhen.
Guang Ming and Shi Lou realised that Yu Ming and Jiang Na knew of each other.
Episode 8
Yu Ming saved Zhen Zhen from herself, from her depression after she became paralysed from the waist down due to the accident.
Meanwhile, there was a new suspect on the murder of Zhang Qing. In the end, the suspect was a former college classmate who admitted readily that he killed Zhang Qing because she deserved it as she led him on and then humiliated him by accusing him for sexual harrassment. He was expelled from school so he had to work in a factory which burned down. He was a victim of the fire, permanently scarring his face. He blamed Zhang Qing for his fate.
In the investigation, they found out that the witness to te murder was Tang Xun.
Tang Xun later inspired him to write Black Rain based on his observation of the scene during the murder of Zhang Qing.
Shi Lou said that he was somewhat let down as they had to go to Fanglai and yet it was a waste of time.
Guang Ming felt the same so she asked the chief, Wang Hong Bo, to let her continue investigate the whereabouts of Jiang Na as she could lead them to where the murder weapon was.
Xu Kang got a glimmer of hope that Guang Ming was softening towards him.
Episode 9
Guang Ming and Shi Luo went back to Fanghai City and started investigating Jiang Na.
Jiang Na and Yu Ming were lovers. Jiang Na told Yu Ming that the popular writer, Tang Xun was staying at the hotel where she works. She said that Tang Xun was writing a suspense novel. Thi information got Yu Ming attention and asked Jiang Na if there was any chance he could look at the novel. He said to take a photo on her phone. Jiang Na was rather wary at first.
Anyway, at present time, Guang Ming and Shi Luo went to see Yu Ming and asked him again if he knew Jiang Na.
Yu MIng denied it. Guang Ming then told him that they’ve got a record that Yu Ming had called Jiang Na three times at least in one day.
Episode 10
Yu Ming’s father got sick and needed money for surgery. Yu ming did not have enough so he asked his friends for a loan but he could not get enough money to make up the 150,000 needed for the heart bypass that is until Zhen Zhen heard about his predicament and offered to loan him 100,000. This was the beginning of the end of his relationship with Jiang Na.
Episode 11
Little Pepper is being looked after by a villager.
Zhen Zhen told Yu Ming that she was pregnant. Yu Ming was. very happy with the news.
When Zhen Zhen asked what would nickname the child, he said Wheat.
Rewind 2018: Jiang Na was pregnant and was trying to tell Yu Ming about it. He was happy when he found out about it at first.
Anyway, with the money he owed Zhen Zhen, Yu Ming was desperate to get a novel published. Zhen Zhen said that the first one he submitted was rejected. She advised him to write suspense as it was currently the favourite genre of readers.
Having heard that Tang Xun had died, he had no real qualms plagiarising Tang Xun’s work. It was Black Rain which made Yu Ming an instance hit. But then one day, he recieved a call accusing of plagiarising Black Rain.
Episode 12
Zhen Zhen had Yu Ming followed so she more or less knew what Yu MIng was up to. Yu MIng asked Tang Xun’s wife to meet him at the pottery studio that night.
Yu Ming had already prepared for a murder/cremation at the studio but luckily for Tang Xun’s wife, Zhen Zhen was waiting for the wife at the lobby of the hotel.
She told Tang Xun’s wife that she would give her money but the wife just sneered at it because she was not after the money at all. She just want recognition of Black Rain as partly a novel of her husband and she won’t stop until she gets her way.
Zhen Zhen threw herself at the mercy of Tang Xun’s wife. She begged the wife not to reveal about the plagiarism because it would not only affect Yu MIng but their unborn child.
It was the mention of the baby that mollified the wife. She ended up promising not to drop the case.
Episode 13
Guang Ming and Zhen Zhen would have been the best of friend if Guang Ming had not been a police officer. The two women found that they have much in common and easily chatted about family.
Zhen Zhen advised Guang Ming to forgive her spouse because the transgression he did can be held against him to keep him in line in the future.
Guang Ming asked Zhen Zhen what has she was holding against Yu Ming. Zhen Zhen just laughed.
The Fenghai police informed Guang Ming that they have got intel about the last time Jiang Na was seen. She was being driven in Yu MIng’s car.
2018 flashback: Jiang Na was very disappointed with Yu Ming for plagiarising the work of Tang Xun. She strongly insisted that the novel is not published at all.
Episode 14
2019 It was the eve of Zhen Zhen and Yu Ming’s wedding. Yu Ming was taken for questioning by the Fanghai Police with Guang Ming.
2018 Flashback
Yu Ming took Jiang Na for a drive in a lonely remote country road.
Episode 15
He Peng was a witness to the dog incident in 2018. He Peng led Guang Ming and Shi Lou to the mountain where he and his comrade saw Yu Ming was beating Pepper as the Pepper was barking ferociously at him. He seemed to be protecting Jiang Na.
Anyway Guang Ming drove to a more secluded area where he repeatedly stabbed a very shocked Jiang Na.
He then buried her.
Anyway, Guang Ming and Shi Lou located Pepper who was adopted by a woman who gave a very convincing timeline of when and where she had gotten Pepper. She also still had the murder weapon.
With this Guang MIng called reinforcement and had part of the mountain dug up and search. They finally found the remains of Jiang Na. The forensic found out the Jiang Na was pregnant.
It was the day of the wedding. Guang Ming went to see Zhen Zhen. She told Zhen Zhen that Yi Ming is a strong suspect to a murder.
Zhen Zhen remained unperturbed and hinted that she still wanted to marry Yu Ming. And she did, she exchanged vows with Yu Ming, who made a bizarre declaration by saying that Shakespeare said the a murderer’s guilt is easier to hide than love. And he loved Zhen Zhen with all his heart.
Yu Ming knew that the police had come to arrest him. He confessed easily that he did kill Jiang Na because he was scared of her divulging his plagiarism. He begged Guang Ming to tell Zhen Zhen to have an abortion so she could move on quickly.
Meanwhile, Guang Ming had a heart to heart with Xu Kang. She told him that she had relied on him too much and would like to be more independent and look after hernfully and be in control of all facet of her life so she wanted a separation.
Seven months later…
Zhen Zhen visited Yu Ming in prison. She told him that this was the last time they were going to see each other. He noticed that she was still pregnant. He told her that he hope the child would not make the same mistake as he did.
Guang Ming gave birth to a baby girl. She was surrounded by people who loves her but she still believe that happiness should not be dependent on other.
Reading between the lines, men are overrated.🤣🤣🤣
