Episode 1
No wonder I heard a lot of praises for this drama. It is well made and so dramatic. I love it.
The birth of Zhuang Hanyan coincided with her grandfather dropping dead suddenly. Hanyan was immediately labelled as some sort of bad luck, a barefoot ghost, by the Taoist monk.
Infant Hanyan was immediately bundled up and taken to Danzhou and fostered to her father’s friend.
Not long after, the friend sent her to the countryside and fostered to a cruel couple who treated her like an animal and had her chained when they see fit.
When she was seventeen, her foster father who was a gambler harrassed his wife for money. His wife told him to sell Hanyan.
The foster father noticed that Hanyan had grown up. He went after her immediately to attack her.
One month later…
Hanyan was back where she started at the Zhuang Residence. Bruised and battered, she made herself known as Zhuang Hanyan.
She was taken in but before she could settle, Fu Yun Xi, the chief of the Court of Judicial Review. He was investigating the death of her foster parents.
Hanyan told him that they were a loving and caring parents to her who shielded her from the maurauding bandits with their bodies. They asked her to escape while they see to the bandits. Fu Yun Xi was highly suspicious but Hanyan remained resolute.
He let her know that the investigation was not over.
Later, she found out that Fu Yun Xi was actually bethrothed to her once before they were even born but somehow, he ended up with her sister. So she thought he was now her brother-in-law.
Mrs Zhou, her father’s concubine was the only one who seemed to welcome her back, she was arrived. Mrs Zhou was the first and only one to show kindess towards her. But still Mrs Zhou was not very forthcoming with information about the family.
Grandma declined to see her as her bad luck persona still persisted. Even her own mother won’t see her. Ruan Xi Wen had locked herself with her maids at the Jiangjia Chamber.
Hanyan heard that her brother, Zhuang Yu Chi’s engagement had been cancelled and Yu Chi blamefd it to Hanyan’s sudden appearance at Zhuang Residence.
He was so annoyed he pushed Hanyan into the cold pond and threatened to kill her when he has a chance.
That night, Hanyan once again tried to approached her grandmother. A ninja assassin turned up. Hanyan protected her scared grandmother. Luckily, the perpetrator was found out by guards. The assassin’s attack was witnessed by Fu Yunxi who immediately had Fu Yun Xi interrogated as she was heard threatening to kill Hanyan.
Despite Hanyan trying to put a good word for her brother, Fu Yun Xi was ready to arrested Zhuang Yun Ci.
But at that moment, Ruan Xi Wen turned up and said in no uncertain maatter that the scandal was personal matter.
She then issued a punishment for Hanyan which was 30 times flogging. Everyone was shocked at the ferocity of the punishment espcially as Hanyan was the only linear daughter of the Zhuang Family and that Ruan Xi Wen was her own birth mother.
Mrs Zhou tried to intervene but she was told to but out. After that flogging, Ruan Xi Wen ordered that the battered Hanyan be expelled from Zhuang Residence.
