I am glued to the television to watch dramas almost nonstop.

I watched Kdramas, Doramas, TwDramas, Lakorn and Cdramas. I got addicted with Cdramas because of many excellent historical dramas but since 2025, I discovered a different genre which is the vertical dramas which is widely available on Youtube.

I must say I got addicted immediately because they were much, much shorter that standard Chinese dramas.

Apparently, I am not the only one obsessed with vertical, mini and micro dramas, as a study was release early this year which found that this genre is now more profitable, ergo, more patronised than the standard full-lenght cdramas of 24 – 40 episodes.

People can’t just get enough of dramas geared to be watch on cell/mobile phones during lunch break or stolen moments from study or work🤣🤣🤣

I reckon vertical dramas can easily hook anyone because of the following:

  • Shorter lenght – a full drama can be from 30 minutes to under 5 hours; mostly just over 2 hrs.
  • They are easy to follow so you can watch 3 to four dramas at the same time, just flit to one channel to another as I do when watched on my computer/laptop.
  • They are mostly so forgettable, so you can rewatch the drama a few days later and it still feels and looks like a new drama, not really remembering how the story panned out the first, second, third time.🤣🤣🤣
  • The actors and actresses can give the more popular actors and actresses of the standard Cdramas a run for their money.  Vertical dramas actors and actresses are gorgeous.
  • You develop your favourite actor and actresses and want to catch them on their other dramas.  You go to their drama portfolio to enjoy their work.
  • You feel a connection with the actors and actress more because they seemed more real as they are allowed to date their co-stars for real.
  • The drama plot is a makjang or most of the time too stupid but you are glued to it because it give you a sense of superiority mentally.  LOL
  • The plots are so predictable.  A drama can be remade 10 times with the same story but different leads.  So a newbie watching would catch himself/herself thinking “Did I not just watch this drama an hour ago?”  “Why is there different actors?!!!”🤣🤣🤣🤣
