Attachment – Thought for the day

From attachment arises sorrow … To him who is free from attachment there is no sorrow.
-Gautama Buddha

The quote above is so stark in its truthfulness and I find it very sad because of its absolute pessimism. I supposed in some level it is correct that forming attachment can eventually lead to every kind of sorrows and deep emotional traumas.

There are every kind of scenarios, which can be harrowing and petrifying outcomes from forming an attachment with others such as death of a loved one, divorce, separation, children growing up leaving you in an empty nest, friends unfriending you in Facebook (LOL), pet missing or dieing, being shun by the community, being dismissed from work, being suspected of wrong-doings, not being trusted, not getting respect, not getting proper remuneration, the list can go on and on. And on!

But these very relationships and attachments have the potentiality of giving you a super-colossal and indescribable feeling of love, joy, happiness and fulfilment. Surely these feelings of inter-relation, being one, being brothers and friends are what God intended us to be with one another?!!!

Without attachment of any kind, we might as well be robots.
