Cast:

Episode 1

Ban Shu is a young princess of the grassland who came to the capital to look for her father.

Sadly, she was a few days too late because her father had died ten days ago.

Because of her family background which was deemed lowly and uncouth by the Ban clan, they sent her away.

She later learned from a rather kindly second Ban uncle that she has an older brother but who was away on military duty.

Episode 2

Ban Shu met a kindred spirit who advised her to find evidence of her parentage before she approached her brother or go back to her Ban Clan.

She remembered that her father had written a memoir/travelogue of his time at the Grassland.  She reckoned that he mentioned her and her mother.

Now she needed to find the book.

Her uncle said that her father donated all his book and many of his brick-a-bracks and knick-knacks to the palace.

So she needed to enter the palace.

It so happened her new friend and kindred spirit, Moo Gong had told her that the palace is currently recruiting for female teachers.

Ban Shu jumped at the chance but she needed a bit of polishing so she had a make-over.

Episode 3

Omg, the actresses were so young.  Simona Wang of Well Intended Love played Lady Ming who ushered the candidates for the examinations,

Ban Shu was one of the two chosen especially by the Queen Dowager, who is really the King, as the Emperor is still a naughty little boy.

Episode 4

Her first day as a teacher did not go well.

The other teacher who was selected with her ran out of the classroom, stressed and had given up.  She advised Ban Shu to do the same.

The class is Y1 and made up of children of the aristocrats who are not really determined to learn or the poor nobles.

The girls were hormonal.  As soon as they saw Lord Wei Ying watering the Tiger Lilies they left the classroom in droves to closely observe the gorgeous lord, who was a former military man but was demoted to teaching.

Ban Shu devised a plan to prevent Jiang Xue be forced to marry a rich old man, General Bai.

But in the process, Ban Shu got the attention of Commander General Deng, who is handsome and a brother of the Empress Dowager.

Ban Shu intrigued him so much he had been looking for her.

Episode 8

Gen Deng had a lead.  He went to see Jiang Ling, the young sister of Jiang Xue.

Jiang Ling was with Ban Shu when they humiliated General Bai.

Gen Deng offered so many incentives to Jiang Ling to reveal the identity of Ban Shu.  Jiang Ling was almost tempted because Gen Deng said that he was going to personally train her in swords fight so she can enter the army.

Jiang Ling thought about it but remained loyal to Ban Shu.

Ban Shu had returned to the palace to ask the Empress Dowager if she could resume her teaching position.

The Empress Dowager told Ban Shu that she can’t be a teacher for now but be a teaching assistant to Teacher Yao.

Ban Shu devised another method to make the girls behave.  Instead of punishment, she was using positive encouragement which rewarding the efforts of the students.

Episode 9

Teacher Kuo had the guard librarian bribed and refused Ban Shu to enter the library as she was only a teaching assistant.

Ban Shu was desperate to be a teacher again.  So she asked Teacher Yao to tutor her so she will pass her exam and be readmitted to a teaching position.

There were many stages before she could be a teacher again.  She had to teach both sections of the girls class.

Ban Shu asked Teacher Kuo if she could teach the Jia class for a day.

Teacher Kuo agreed with a condition that if the students or at least half, remain in her class for the full time they she can continue on at the Female Imperial Academy but if there were less than twelve remaining student, then Ban Shu has to resign.

It was quite an undertaking which Ban Shu knew she had fallen into the trap of Teacher Kuo.

But Wei Ying told her to teach what she was good at.

All of the Jia students walked out after a few minutes, and then Princess Liu Yan dragged Princess Wei Xi as well and some had followed them.

So Ban Shu new she might have to leave the academy but she continued the class.

Princess Wei Xi stopped Princess Liu Yan from dragging her away.  She said that she was actually enjoying the class.  She said that she had always tried to do what Liu Yan wanted her to do but she realised that she is a princess as well and the daughter of the late emperor.

She then returned to class, followed by the others.

Some students of Jia section also got curious at what happy and exciting atmosphere Ban Shu seemed to be having so they returned as well.

In the end, there were 15 students altogether.

Teacher Kuo, in the end, told Ban Shu that she can stay and she will not say anything anymore.

Teacher Yao related everything to General Hao.  He told her to stop and she had talked about it non-stop.

Teacher Yao ignored him and went on talking.  The General kissed her to stopped her talking.

Teacher Kuo was so surprised she hit him hard again.

Teacher Yao then stumbled into her classroom all confused and this was where Ban Shu found her.

Ban Shu asked what happened.

Ban Shu said that it sounded like the general likes Teacher Kuo and Teacher Kuo likes him.

Band Shu then asked what is a kiss like.

After thinking about it, Teacher Yao said that it was like biting into a red braised pork belly. 

Ban Shu understood and said that it why people like kissing.  It is quite chewy.  🙂 . Ban Shu is innocent, she is only 16 years old.

Episode 10

Ban Shu and Teacher Kuo had another contest.  They will be teaching the same topic and who ends up with most students in her class in the entirety of the lesson wins.  The loser, if it was Ban Shu will remove the famous and esteemed plaque of the Ban Shu scholars.  If Teacher Kuo loses, she had to resign her principalship at the school and leave.

Ban Shu was very hands-on and used real example which made the poem more relatable.  It was so interesting that most of the Jia pupils ran into her classroom to join in.

Ban Shu won.

Teacher Kuo pretended that she would like to make up with Ban Shu but had secretly set up Princess Liu Yan to take revenge on her behalf.

Liu Yan paid to have Ban Shu beaten up.  Ban Shu foot back and used the scroll book given to her by Teacher Yao to study.

Ban Shu was fighting 5 men so the scroll got damaged.

Wei Ying turned up and fought off the men.

When he saw the damaged scroll, he absolutely went ballistic about damaging a book.

Ban Shu was annoyed at Wei Ying as well. She told him that her life is more important than an inanimate scroll.

Ban Shu ended up in the bar.  She was drinking alcohol when General Deng finally found her.  He ordered the best drink and gave her a dish of salted peanut.

General Deng told her that his life is like hers.  He was constraint by his sister becoming an empress now empress dowager.

Before his sister was even married to the late emperor, General Deng had already garnered military honours.

General Deng said that if Ban Shu marries his she can have all his heart.

Ban Shu realised that General Deng might become amorous so she gave him a karate chop on his vagus nerve which made him pass out.

When he woke up, he was all tied up.  Instead of being annoyed, he was happy and delighted because he had not met a more interesting woman than her.

Still, he did not know much about her.

So he drew her likeness and had a hundred posted on walls with a reward to someone who can tell who she was.

Meanwhile, Wei Ying finally realised that he was too strict and horrible to Ban Shu especially when he found out that Ban Shu’s mother was the warrior princess married to Gen Ban Guo. 🙂
