Peniaphobia

Phobia

Peniaphobia

I’m scared to death of being poor. It’s like a fat girl who loses 500 pounds but is always fat inside. I grew up poor and will always feel poor inside. It’s my pet paranoia.

The above quote by Cher made me curious whether there is a known phobia with regards to being poor. And of course there is. It is called peniaphobia. It has Greek roots; penia meaning poverty and phobia is of course fear.

To a certain extent we, I think, all have a fear of being poor but not to the point that it would really rule our psyche day in and day out.
