Episode 1
Beautiful coloration, stunning cinematography, and looks like it will be a treat. My only problem with this drama is that it is cut into two parts. This was to comply with new Chinese television guidelines where a drama could only have a maximum of 40 episodes. As this drama has more than 60, there is a need for part 2. But the problem is that Part 2 will be aired later in the year! Can I wait that long? Or just put this drama aside and start watching it in November 2023?
I’ll try a few episodes first and I’ll see how it goes…
OMG! So many deaths in the first episode🤣😭😭😭
It started in Xiyan Mountain at the Zhaoyun Hall where a couple of children were busy with their respective activities while Grandma watched over them. The girl was on the swing while the boy was reading a book.
Suddenly Grandma had a foreboding when she saw the sky turning black. Not long after, the father of young Qiang Xuan was killed in a battle as his brother did not bother to send the reinforcement that was requested.
The Emperor wanted to shut the tomb but Qiang Xuan begged for them to wait for his mother, who is also a general in the army.
The mother eventually turned. She was very upset and revealed the wickedness of her brother-in-law. Seeing that he would not be punished. Qiang Xuan’s mother stabbed the brother-in-law in the chest and died on the spot. Knowing that she was going to be in trouble, she also stabbed herself and fell into her husband’s tomb as it was just about to shut.
Poor orphaned Qiang Xuan was now going to be looked after by Xin Jiu Yao’s mother who said that she will be staying at Dahuang as she had divorced her husband, the King of Haoteng (?)
But before they could bond, the mother was sent to war. She had been trained in the art of warfare while growing up. She became the Princess General.
Unfortunately, she ended up dying as well.
The two orphaned children were separated. Xin Jiu Yao was sent to Mount Jade to be schooled by Queen Dowager.
300 years later…
Xin Jiu Yao is now cross-dressing as a boy. She or he is now called Xiaolu, the great medicine man of fertility and childbirth.

Episode 6
Skinny fell in love with San Tian’er who was a courtesan. Xiaolu and Mr Mu promised to redeem Tian’er from the brothel but later found out that buying her back was more than they could afford.
Xiaolu approached Xiang Liu to ask him a favor as he owns the establishment. But what Xiaolu got was a broken limb when he made her fall from the tree.
Xiaolu later found out that the release of Tian’er from her contract with the brothel was dependent on Zhuan Xu. Xiaolu had a word with him.
The wedding of Skinny to Sang Tian’er was modest but a happy one until Anian gatecrashed it and insulted everyone and the food.
Zhuan Xu was embarrassed by his cousin and ushered her out.
Episode 7
The sadomasochistic relationship between Xiang Liu and Wen Xiaolu seemed to suit them both.
Anyway, the soldiers of Chengrong were dying of malaria but they have a shortage of herbs.
Mr Yu had announced that he will be taking back the shops and lands that are under lease. Rejuvenation Hall happened to be one so XiaoLu went to see Mr Yu to make some sort of agreement. Seventeen went with XiaoLu
Mr Yu said that he was just a rep. The real owners wanted back the properties.
A young lady called Jing Ye turned up and spotted Seventeen. She went down on her knees in gratefulness that she had finally found him.
Leaf Seventeen’d real identity was revealed. He was Tushan Jing, the second son of the Tushan Family. They are a descendant of the Nine-Tailed Fox Family.
They are so rich, they are influential that even the Emperors listened to them.
XiaoLuwas very upset that Seventeen is leaving.
She told him that since she had looked after him for six years that should count for rent.
Episode 8
Xiang Liu ordered Xiaolu to ask Tushan Jing to procure herbs for his malaria-stricken army.
Tushan Jing was only too happy to do Xiaolu a favor. Unfortunately, Zhuan Xu had already bought all the herbs to make Xiang Liu so desperate he would be forced to surrender.
So Tushan Jing used a family heirloom, the GuiXu Crystal, to convince other noble families who have stored herbs for emergency use to sell the herbs to him.
Tushan Jing met up with Xiaolu and Xiang Lu to advise them that the herbs are ready to be collected. Tushan realized that Xiaolu was now suffering from a form of Stockholm Syndrome because she seemed beguiled with the sadistic Xiang Liu.
Anyway, Xiang Liu went to collect the herbs but he was ambushed and the herbs were gone.
He got away by the skin of his teeth. So where would he go but to sit on the bed of a sleeping Xiaolu? Xiaolu was forced to confess that the mastermind of the herbal theft was most likely to be Zhuan Xu as she overheard him talking about Xiang Lu before. Xiaolu came up with a foolproof plan of action to get the herbs back.
And this was to kidnap Anian, Zhuan Xu’s beloved cousin.
Zhuan Xu was in a filthy mood when he found out that Anian was taken. He promised that everyone who had anything to do with the abduction will die. He won’t lose another sister.

Poisonous Love Bug was transferred to Xiang Liu.
Instead of being relieved, Zhuan Xu felt he had lost something vital to his life.

Tushan Jing left but they made a promise that they will be together in 15 years.
Xiaoyao confessed to Cang Xuan that she began to have doubts about the King of Haoling being her father. She heard the maids and then the nine-tailed fox told her as he beat her that she was the daughter of the demon Chi Chen.
Cang Xuan assured her that she was the king’s daughter. Her mother killed Chi Chen herself.
As to the issue of Xiaoyao’s changing face, the king knew who was responsible for it but he is not saying who at the moment.
Cang Xuan realised that it was Xiaoyao’s mother who changed her face. He started to doubt that Xiaoyao was the king’s daughter as he remembered the Princess General telling him to look after Xiaoyao as she was someone ‘special’. He did not care about her real parentage, all he cared about was that Xiaoyao is safe and he will make sure of it.
Cang Xuan decided to return to Xiyun. The King of Haoling was all for it.
Hearing this news, Xiaoyao said that she would go with Cang Xuan as the Princess of Haoling.
The King told Xiaoyao to go to Jade Mountain to see the Queen Mother who return her into her true self with her true face.
Fang Feng Yi Ying attacked the boat of Cang Xuan.
Episode 17
Xiaoyao rescued Anian and her maid Haitang. Then ended up in Shiyi City where they met Ru Shou.
Cang Xuan was missing.
Xiaoyao reminded Ru Shou to be careful of Feng Yi Ying when Anian mentioned that she was their assailant.
Cang Xuan was rescued and now recuperating at Chengrong Mansion. He is having quite a peaceful time playing his flute to Chenrong Xinyue’s guzin.
Xiaoyao spotted Shiqi drinking at the pavilion. She thought he would not be there for her anymore but like a genie in the bottle, he suddenly materialised next to her.
The four male leads are in this episode.
Episode 18
I have to say this episode is rather on the lackluster side.
Cang Xuan and Xiaoyao finally arrived at Jade Mountain. Xiaoyan said that the place is a tranquil as ever. Its very quietness makes her want to die of boredom.
That was why when the Queen Mother offered her the position of being the next Queen Mother, Xiaoyao thank her but she declined it.
Anyway, the makeover scene was so dull because for some reason they really slowed it down but you kept thinking, she did not really change at all a good hairbrush could not do. She looks the same except for her top head bun had now been loosened to drape on her shoulder and waist but basically, she looks the same.
Anyway, they went back to Haoling. The king was pleased to see their return but he was visibly taken aback when he saw the flower mark on Xiaoyao’s forehead.
The kind through a family-only banquet to introduce Xiaoyao to the family.
Anian was not amused and jealously made Cang Xuan choose between her and Xiaoyu.
The king intervened and told her that the question was like making her choose who she thinks is better, the king or her mother.
Cang Xuan told Anian that Xiaoyao is Wen Xiaolu.
Anian was a spoilt girl so she threw her food on the floor and flounced off.
Her misbehavior was not corrected by the king, instead, she was consoled with a new dinner to be brought to her apartment. She threw this as well.
Anyway, Feng Yin Ying is back at home and promptly met Prince Tushan Hou who she was having an affair with.
Poor Xiang Liu. He heard that the Great Princess of Haoling is back after wandering the realms. He realised that the great princess is Xiaolu who told him that he had no place to go to, no one cares for her and Xiang Liu fell for her sad stories when the opposite is the truth. He was livid with Xiaolu.
Episode 19
Xiaoyao settled into doing medicine at the palace.
Xiaoyao was later caught ogling at Xiang Liu on the hand mirror by the King.
The King was curious who Xiaoyao was looking at in the mirror which was forged from the soul of ape. Apparently, you could look at the past of the mirror’s owner. As the mirror came from Xiang Liu, then Xiaoyao could look at his soul.
No romantic thoughts like a girl because she had been a boy for such a long time.
Cang Xuan went back to Chang Rong to apologise for lying that he was from the Dragon Squad of Haoling. He said that he is from Xiyan.
Chenrong Xinyue went all giddy and excited when she found out that Cang Xuan was a prince.
But when Cang Xuan returned to the palace, he was rather perturbed. He went straight to Xiaoyao and asked her if one day she had to make a choice between him and Tushan Jing, who would she pick.
Xiaoyao was amused by his question but as she had said to the king, she had lived as a boy for a long time. So she does not have the sentiment of girls and love. She was pragmatic that romantic love could change so loving relatives is deeper. She assured Cang Xuan that now she is back she will be on her side and if it turned out that he wage a war against Tushan Jing’s clan, then she would be fighting side by side with Cang Xuan against Tushan Jing and his ilks.
It was the official debut of the Great Princess of Haoling. Many attended especially by the curious most eligible bachelors from neighbouring kingdoms. It even made Xiang Liu blackened his white hair so he can attend the ceremony without attracting attention.
Fenglong, the young master of Chengrong was enticed by the beautiful Great Princess.
