Love Like The Galaxy First Part, Episodes 1 – 27
Episode 28
Poor Buyi was really feeling the ‘break-up bust’ with Shaoshang. He was drinking wine when it only got worst because he saw the only witness he knew to the Gu City massacre was under attack from anonymous assailants.
Poor Han Wu died from a poison needle by one of the assassins.
Buyi found out that the assassins were working for the military, There were many military barracks all over the country so it would be complicated to smoke the culprit out. But still, they suspected that the mastermind was Marquis Yue.
Buyi was injured during the attack, he was slashed in the leg. Buyi had informed the Emperor that he got injured from falling from his horse.
The Emperor sent Imperial Physician Sun to Buyi but Buyi refused to consult the royal doctor because the physician will find out that his injury was not because of a fall from a horse.
The Emperor was worried about Buyi. He was pacing so much, that the Noble Consort threatened to go to the other chamber for a bit of R&R. The Emperor would not let her and started saying that it was all Lady Cheng’s fault that Buyi kept getting injured.
The Noble Consort was so clever, She told the Emperor that Lady Cheng must be informed of Buyi’s injury or else it would be all for nothing.
The Emperor being the number one fan of Buyi and Shaoshang CP agreed with alacrity.
Shaoshang was summoned to the palace the next day. She almost got slapped when she met the Third Princess who told her that she seduced Buyi with her face.
Shaoshang questioned the Third Princess’ conclusion. As she answered back the princess ordered her maid to slap Shaoshang.
Buyi was in time to stop it.
He told the Third Princess that she was a money-grabbing bitch and he now hated her to his core. He reiterated that he never wanted to get married in his almost 21 years until he met Shaoshang. He said that in this lifetime Shaoshang is the only one for him.
Ji Tong, who was in the vicinity and who had a crush on Buyi for like an eternity was rather upset.
Meanwhile, Shaoshang looked at Buyi rather tenderly. She realised that this gorgeous guy really only has eyes for her. Aww
Now, Buyi was playing hard to get.
When Shaoshang asked how he was, he asked her why the sudden concern for his well-being when just yesterday she was telling him that he was the devil who she does not want to see again. Awww
He then told her that if she was going to request the Emperor to annul their engagement, then she would be very disappointed because he would never cancel their engagement, ever.
She flirted suddenly and coyly said who told him that she wanted to cancel the wedding?
She said she had an epiphany and realised that everything he had been doing for her was for her own good. He had only shown kindness to her. But she said she needs time to ponder marrying a deity revered by everyone.
Though Buyi was lovesick, he knew that Shaoshang was using her womanly wiles. But he promised her that as his wife what he owns will be hers. He will protect her always. He will try not to be too autocratic. As a piece de resistance, he took something from his chest pocket. It was a pancake wrapped in a very clean-looking cloth. He told her that she can eat anything at any time of the day.
They stared at each other with a silly looks on their faces. Aww so sweet.
Shaoshang had her audience with the Emperor. He asked her what would she do as the wife of Ling Buyi. Shaoshang innocently said that she had to marry Buyi first.
The Emperor with the Empress and the Crown Prince and Princess were all waiting for her to elaborate but Shaoshang did not add anything.
The Empress, the Crown Prince and Crown Princess could not hide their giggles.
Ling Buyi turned up which surprised the Emperor who was very concerned about Ling Buyi’s gallivanting around when he should be recuperating at home.
Ling Buyi said that he wanted to see their interrogation of his soon-to-be bride.
It was a hilarious and sweet moment with Buyi and Shaoshang who can’t hide their new understanding and budding love for each other.
Shaoshang was commanded by the Emperor to learn under the tutelage of the Empress. She has to move in at the Empress’s Chungqing Palace.
Shaoshang was not happy about it which was noticed by Ling Buyi. He begged the Emperor to allow Shaoshang to be a day student rather than a border.
Buyi said that Shaoshang had not been with her family long and wanted to be with them as much as possible before she moves in with Buyi after the wedding.
Buyi promised to drive Shaoshang in the morning and take her back in the evening.
The Emperor was all for it. He wanted his favourite ‘son’ to be with his ladylove as much as possible.
Shaoshang lodged a complaint against Wang Ling for spreading rumours about her. The Emperor had no choice but to action her complaint because Buyi will throw a strop if Shaoshang gets upset. LOL
Madam Wen Xu had a visitor. It was the envoy of Shouchun.
Madam Wen Xu is the mother of Wang Ling. Apparently, Wen Xu is the princess of the grassland of Shouchun. It was her family who found Xuan wandering around. It was Wen Xu’s father who brokered the marriage between Xuan and Emperor Wen. By right, Wen Xu thinks that the empire should be shared by Qian’an and the Wen Family.
Wang Ling entered her mother’s room without permission.
The Envoy noticed that she was grown up and pretty. She said that she was just the right person to marry the widowed Official Peng.
Wen Xu at first disagreed with the Envoy. She said that Wang Ling is still too young and Offical Peng who is asthmatic and disabled is as old as Wang Ling’s father.
The Envoy said that it seemed Wen Xu had forgotten why Official Peng became disabled. It was because he had to carry Lord Qian’an (Wen Xu’s father) on his back away from the miasma.
Wen Xu told the Envoy that she will find a more suitable woman for Official Peng.
The Envoy used blackmail. She more or less threatened Wen Xu with the safety of her brother who was under the protection of Official Peng.
Wang Ling was shocked when she saw her mother was caving into the marriage request.
Wang Ling later shouted and cried begging her father to intervene but they were interrupted by the arrival of Eunuch Cao with an oral edict from the Emperor. He passed the Emperor’s edict for Mr Wang Chun and his daughter Wang Ling to reflect on their behaviour. They were under house arrest.
In front of Eunuch Cao, Wen Xu slapped Wang Ling.
Eunuch Cao was so shocked he left immediately.
Wen Xu was so upset that Xuan, the Empress, did not do anything to stop the Emperor from issuing the edict.
She said that she would have been the Empress if she was not related to Emperor.
Episode 28
Shaoshang found the Empress to be very kind and very patient as well as generous.
Despite only being a day student, the Empress made sure to have a room prepared for Shaoshang in case she gets too tired. The Empress also prepared a drafting table for Shaoshang because she heard from Ling Buyi that Shaoshang is partial to engineering and architectural stuff.
This really touched Shaoshang because her own mother and father never thought of provident her with a suitable study desk.
Shaoshang asked the Empress if she was a tad upset with her for complaining about Wang Ling who is the Empress’ niece.
The Empress just smiled and assured her that she was not bothered at all. In fact, she felt an affinity with Shaoshang because they both grew up without the care and protection of their parents.
Shaoshabg was so moved by what the Empress has said. She immediately went down on her knees and promised to study well.
Shaoshang told Buyi later on that the Empress was so kind-hearted and admitted to being partial to her.
Buyi was proud of Shaoshang but reminded her that sometimes being kind-hearted is not all it’s cracked up to be.
Aww, sweetness overload coming up.
Shaoshang was interested in knowing more about Ling Buyi so he took her to his special place he would go to when he was growing up.
It was the balcony on top of the palace gate.
Shaoshang loved the night sky which was full of stars.
Buyi said that he came here to find his own star which Shaoshang said was easy looking at the stars twinkling above.
Buyi said that it was not easy. He then told Shaoshang why he joined the military at a very early age. Aside from being inspired by General Hou, it was really to repay the Emperor for bringing him up. He also wanted to protect the people.
Shaoshang saw how Buyi was looking at the sky which made her ardent to be nearer him. OMG! Their chemistry is on fire.
Buyi saw her fond gaze. She told him that she was looking at the stars in his eyes. Buyi told her to move closer so she could see the brightest star in his eyes and that was her!🤗🤗🤗❤️❤️🥰🥰
Shaoshang moved closer but the naughty girl couldn’t be helped looking at his luscious lips. Wu Lei looks so gorgeously masculine
They were interrupted by patrolling guards. Ling Buyi asked them if they saw anything.
The guards were quick to deny that they saw anything so Ling Buyi more or less said to watch closely as he kisses Shaoshang on the forehead. Ling Buyi, you saucy guy.❤️❤️❤️
Aww, later on, Shaoshang was so excited about it and behaving like a fifteen year on the first flush of first love.
Because of it, she can’t go to sleep. But at the crack of dawn, she was woken up by Liangfang to prepare to go to the palace. Ling Buyi was already outside waiting for her.
Ling Buyi’s guards were complaining that just because Ling Buyi had kissed a girl, he had to remain awake until the wee hours.
This became their daily ritual, fetching Shaoshang at an ungodly hour. Even Buyi began to suffer.
But poor Shaoshang, the classics bored her rigid, making her cross-eyed and sending her to the land of nod.
The Empress was patient and cared for her tenderly. She began to feel the love sadly lacking with her parents.
The Empress recognised that her prowess is in natural philosophy and mechanics rather than writing and poetry.
Because of this Shaoshang began to blossom.
Luo Ji Tong who also serves the Queen can’t help but say that Shaoshang is so lucky to have Ling Buyi. She said that Ling Buyi used to be the most admired bachelor and anyone would marry him in a heartbeat.
Lady Wen Xu came gatecrashing in the Chongqing palace. She wanted a word with Empress Xuan who was her cousin. She wanted the Empress to facilitate the allocation of minting to her brother in Shouchun.
The Empress told her that she had nothing to do with state affairs. Lady Wen Xu must go to the Emperor directly.
This made Lady Wen Xu irate and called the Empress an ingrate after all the things her family did for her.
Lady Wen Xu was making such a racket so Shaoshang intervened to protect the Empress’ eardrums.
Lady Wen Xu was still going on and on and now rounded up Shaoshang by insulting Ling Buyi.
Shaoshang was very proud of her Buyi and told Lady Wen Xu that everything that Buyi got was because he’s an exemplary soldier and earned all the fortune and accolades he has now is the battlefield.
Buyi and the Emperor had turned up at Chongqing palace at this point. Buyi felt how proud Shaoshang was of him and loved her even more for it.
He checked on Shaoshang whether she was hurt by Lady Wen Xu who was going ballistic.
The Emperor told Lady Wen Xu not to bother the Empress anymore. The Empress is just too nice that she had been indulging Lady Wen Xu. But enough is enough.
Episode 29
As much as the Empress was tutoring Shaoshang, she tested the Empress first if she could be fair to her.
All Shaoshang saw was pure kindness and gentleness so there and then she pledged that she will be a good student.
Ling Buyi told Shaoshang that if she wanted to know anything she could ask him.
He then took her to the balcony on top of the gate surrounding the palace. He told her that when he was young, the balcony was where he often went to look up at the stars.
Shaoshang could not help but flirt at her gorgeous General. She moved closer to him and said that she wanted to see the starlight in his eyes.
Buyi told her to move even closer to him so she could see the brightest star in his eyes which is her. OMG! This is the most romantic, spine-tingling cliche ever. I love it.❤️❤️❤️❤️
Their rather intimate posturing was seen by the patrolling guards. When Buyi asked if they saw anything, they immediately denied seeing anything.
This is all Buyi needed to hear as he gave Shaoshang a loving kiss on the forehead so the guards could see.
The guards trampled on each other as they hurried to leave.
That night, Shaoshang was much too excited to sleep so she had trouble getting up in the morning.
Buyi and the Black Armour Guards would collect her at the crack of dawn to bring her to the palace.
This went on for days until even Buyi had trouble keeping awake. It turned out that when he brings Shaoshang home, he would remain to guard General Cheng’s mansion to protect Shaoshang and her family.
The Empress noticed that Shaoshang had trouble keeping awake but she was really kind and made sure that Shaoshang is well catered for. Her studying is improving slowly.
Shaoshang’s lack of enthusiasm for the classic becomes apparent the Empress found out that she was an able mechanical engineer. So she evaluated her student for may be lacking in some areas but she certainly excelled in other areas. She said that everyone has their forte and Shaoshang should not listen to anyone who tries to belittle her.
Madame Xu came calling to Changqui Palace to speak to the Empress. With her was her daughter Wang Ling.
Wang LIng followed Shaoshang to her room and started criticising everything in the room. Shaoshang told Wang Ling that she actually liked her despite Wang LIng being so stupid. Shaoshang said that her room is almost as spartan as the rest of the palace because the Emperor is promoting austerity.
Meanwhile, Madame Xu started haranguing the Empress for being ungrateful. She said Empress Yuan would have not become empress if not for her family. Her father looked after her and arranged for her to marry the emperor.
She was going on and on how ingrate the Empress was until Shaoshang who overheard everything could not take it anymore so she intervened.
She told Madame WenXu a few home truths that the Empress does not really owe the Qian’an family anything.
Madame WenXu was not proposed to marry the Emperor herself because they were closely related by blood.
This truth only made Madame WenXu incandescent with rage. She told Shaoshang that she was a nobody with pretentions of marrying a prince. She added that Ling Buyi is not a prince but a son of a mad woman.
By this time, Emperor with Ling Buyi had turned up and overheard what Shaoshang said. She told Madame WenXu that Ling Buyi’s merits and status in life were earned by himself on the battlefield, unlike someone who still harks about her connection with Lord Qian’an.
Madame WenXu would have slapped Shaoshang but the Emperor finally made his presence known.
Ling Buyi went to Shaoshang immediately to see if she was in any way hurt.
Ling Buyi told Madame WenXu that Lord Qian’an kindness to Empress Xuan was to return the favour of the Xuan when Lord Qian’an met troubles and needed sanctuary.
Episode 30
Buyi warned Shaoshang not to interfere in palace matters.
This upset Shaoshang a bit so when Buyi took her home, she could not wait to leave him.
Buyi, however, stopped her and told her that one of the things that he likes most about her is her unstrained behavior and saying what she thinks without fear. He then said that he does not fall for anyone easily but once he gives his heart, there is no turning back for him.
But he said if it is too much a responsibility for Shaoshang to handle then he will take back his heart. He then walked away leaving Shaoshang perplexed.
Official Yue was with the Third Princess. They were congratulating themselves for the success of their plot by using Madame Wen Xiu about the minting. Mr Tian, the owner of the restaurant was in on their plotting.
The next morning, Shaoshang was surprised to find that Ling Buyi with his Black Armour guards were not waiting to take her to the palace.
It only got worst for her because she met the Third Princess who started humiliating her by asking her maids to make Shaoshang get on her knees and bow down. The maid trod on Shaoshang’s hand while another slapped her.
Shaoshang would have been slapped again but the Crown Princess turned up and told off the Third Princess. Shaoshang found out from the Crown Princess that the Third Princess wanted to marry Buyi but he turned her down.
Meanwhile, Buyi was with the Crown Prince. Buyi was telling the Crown Prince that he had to back up his ideas and not just appoint anyone to choice position because someone asked him to.
Then ended up at the East Palace where the Crown Princess was talking to Shaoshang.
Buyi took Shaoshang away. This is a cute scene. Buy lifted Shaoshang to sit on a brick wall by the pond.
Buyi looked so haggard with dark eyes from lack of sleep. Obviously, he did not sleep well after leaving Shaoshang the night before.
Buyi asked Shaoshang how she got bruised again and who was the culprit.
Shaoshang would not say and said to Buyi that it was none of his business as he wanted to take his heart back. Shaoshang is so cute and behaves like a fifteen year old girl.
Buyi said he will do his own investigation. Buyi told her not to go to the East Palace and should not have anything to do with Crown Princess.
Shaoshang said that the Crown Princess was kind to her and she was only trying to familiarise herself with the palace and how Buyi’s life was in the palace so she could settle as his future wife.
This appeased Buyi. He asked her if she was doing it for him but she naughtily said no. But he knew otherwise. He smiled and Shaoshang smiled. Everything was fine once again in their young lovers’ world.
The Third Princess went to see Noble Consort Yue with a gift of golden hairpin.
Noble Consort was not impressed at all. In fact, she told her daughter that she regretted allowing her Yue relatives to bring the Third Princess while she was away at war with the Emperor. She said that her daughter had turned into a money-grabbing woman who has a penchant for loud clothes. She told the princess to change her red hanfu to something muted.
There was a family get-together where the immediate family member of the Emperor gathered for the death anniversary of Huo Chong. . Buyi was of course in attendance and so was Shaoshang.
The Empress had welcome Shaoshang to the gathering and allowed them to make a drink offering but the Emperor was moody and told them to leave him as he was too depressed for a little chit-chat.
They ignored him and the children talked to each other. The Fifth Prince was apparently not a son of either the Empress or the Noble Consort. His mother was someone who climbed into the Emperor’s bed🤪.
Then Princess Ruyang turned up. She was the Emperor’s sister. She started on Shaoshang and asked her why she had not visited her future in-laws, the Lings.
Buyi interrupted and said that Shaoshang had not visited his mother, so why would she visit anyone else?
This only made Princess Ruyang irate but thank goodness, the feisty Noble Consort arrived and told Princess Ruyang to vacate her seat and move somewhere else.
Episode 31
Founding benefactor.
Counterfeit coins Shouchun, Junior Lord Qian’an’s fief, under the command of Peng Kun. relation to the Xuan family (empress)
The Third Prince insisted that third princess is still punished as she was not vigilant enough to allow the fake coins to circulate in her fief.
The third princess was dragged out and beaten.
Consort Yue ignored her cries and when Marquis Yue told her that the Emperor was so partial, Consort Yue said that would the minister wants her to request for the Emperor to punish the third princess, even more, break her legs, perhaps?
The Third Princess continued to protest that she was a victim but her mother, Consort Yue, was so level-headed and told her that it was tedious for the princess to deny her crime. She was obviously heavily involved with the counterfeiting in her fief, otherwise, where would she get the money to fund her clothes and accessories?
Consort Yue said that the Emperor did not order a deeper investigation because he wanted the Yue family to save face. And she scolded the Third Princess when she said that it was all Cheng Shaoshang’s fault that they found out that she was wearing ostentatious clothes and accessories under her plain memorial outfit.
Concert Yue told the Princess that she was glad Shaoshang was instrumental in putting the spotlight on the princess; at least the princess’ misdemeanors had come to light before she could do more upheavals.
Marquis Yue tried to incite Concert Yue by saying that the Emperor is biased towards the Empress.
The Crown Prince was in trouble yet again. Ling Buyi advised him to develop some backbones and be strong-minded.
The Empress, his mother, said that the Crown Prince is just like her, weak and a people pleaser.
This resulted in the Crown Prince indulging in cronyism and had appointed relatives and friends to higher office.
Episode 32
There was a gathering rumour that the Crown Prince would be replaced.
Marquis Yue and Tian Shuo, a restauranteur, were very interested in this going on when they were interrupted by the Fifth Princess who had come to visit her fiancee, Marquiz Yue’s son.
With her was her retinue of musicians. The Princess has a reputation of being lascivious and therefore, Marquis Yue plotted with Tian Shuo to bring her down because she looks down on the Yue Family.
The Emperor finds Shaoshang refreshing and rather irreverent. So was particularly attentive to her because she will be the wife of his favourite ‘son’. To get Shaoshang more into the aristocratic milieu, the Emperor tasked her to be the Empress’s birthday planner.
Shaoshang was not really happy because she get to decide everything including the sitting arrangement. She moaned at the Crown Princess that she was not really suitable for the role because she did not know half of the invited guests.
The Crown Princess tried to soothe her but then the Fifth Princess turned up wanting to speak to the Crown Prince who was in his study with some delegates.
The Fifth Princess was very dismissive of the Crown Prince saying that he was wasting his time because he won’t be the Crown Prince for long.
The Crown Prince was annoyed with his sister’s attitude and told her not go enter his palace again without an appointment.
The spoiled Fifth Sister went to the Empress to complain about her brother.
The poor Empress was so stressed she stopped eating. But Shaoshang had her way, which made Luo Ji Tong jealous as she was incited by her maid by telling her that Shaoshang is one lucky girl, favoured by the Empress in such a short time and loved by Ling Buyi no less.
The Crown Prince asked Shaoshang how his mother was.
Shaoshang told him to go and see his mother himself. She added that even if his parents seemed upset, they would not just abandon their children unless the relationship had really broken down.
Shaoshang gave him a piece of her mind. She told him that what he was doing was right in itself for trying to save a relative, Mr Wang, if he had to do this on a personal level but it was so wrong doing it under the guise of being the Crown Prince because it shows favoritism and nepotism.
The Crown Prince had an epiphany. He understood what Shaoshang was saying so he went to see the Emperor and had bonding with him over a game of chess.
During the next morning’s court where everyone was expecting that the Crown Prince would be demoted or uncrowned prince, the Emperor instead announced that the Crown Prince will remain his main heir and in addition, the Emperor granted the Crown Prince the ownership of the Tiger Token, which means that the Crown Prince is now the Commander General of the entire Imperial Army.
The Crown Prince was shocked and later tried to give the Tiger Token to Ling Buyi for safekeeping.
Buyi refused it and told the Crown Prince to keep it inside the Eastern Palace as it was the safest and most well-guarded place. Buyi then learned from the Crown Prince that it was because of what Shaoshang told him that inspired the Crown Prince to appeal to the nostalgic emotion of the Emperor to give General Wang another chance.
The next scene was another tear ducts squeezer.
Shaoshang happily went to meet Buyi to take her home.
But the Buyi she saw was far from the gentle and loving boyfriend she had gotten used to. Instead, he was cold. He was gorgeously frozen.
Unfairly, Buyi put all the blame on Shaoshang for Wang Chun getting away from his crime. He told Shaoshang that because of her interference a criminal will get away from his crime.
Madam Wen Xu and her cohorts will make use of Wang Chun’s freedom as reasons to bully the Empress and create greater havoc.
Shaoshang had just put the Empress, the Crown Prince, and even the Empire in greater danger.
Thank you, Ling Buyi😭😭😭. You are the best boyfriend – not!
He then told her that time and again, he reminded her not to get involved in the Eastern Palace matter, but she does not listen. He told her again to stay out of it.
This was just too much for my baby, oops for Shaoshang. She gave Buyi both barrels. She said she wanted to marry a normal person and live a normal life but without being asked she became Ling Buyi’s fiancee and was brought to the palace. She never wished any of it and Buyi never told her anything really of the palace politics. She was kept in the dark.
Buyi said that he only wanted the best for her.
This only triggered Shaoshang. She told him that her mother always said the same thing, “only wanted the best for her because she was not good enough.
This is such a sad emotive moment that made me cry.
Shaoshang told Buyi that she wanted to be alone and went home by herself.
Buyi was like, shit, I’ve upset the love of my life and it is all my fault. I had to realise that Women Are Always Right!😭😭😭
Episode 33
The poor Crown Prince had become paranoid about the Tiger tokens. He can’t sleep, he can’t eat. He was so restless.
The Crown Princess said that they should go away for a while and take the Tiger Tokens with them to her uncle’s place where it was quiet and safe for the tokens. They can then relax.
Buyi took Shaoshang to visit his mother. It did not go well, because Madam Hou had an attack and did not recognised Buyi.
Anyway, Shaoshang was shocked at first but not overly so especially when she found out what the backstory of Madam Hou was.
Episode 34
Sitting under a tree, Buyi asked Shaoshang her opinion. She readily said that she will make it a point to visit Mother Hou as often as she can so Mother Hou can get used to her.
Buyi loved her even more and told her to get officially engaged to him. She concurred immediately even when he said that had to hold the engagement banquet the next day.
Buyi said that it was actually impossible to hold the engagement at such short notice so they had to do it in three days instead.
Shaoshang commented that she does not want a grand party as she had with Ayao. Buyi pounced on her and kissed her. He then warned her that he will kiss her every time she says something that would displease him.
Shaoshang could not be any happier.
But the next day, Madam Chunyushi, Buyi’s stepmother, came to visit the Chengs. With her, she brought a couple of girls as a gift to Shaoshang and Buyi. Shaoshang declined the offer of the two girls, telling Madam Chunyushi that SS had not even touched Buyi’s bed and here the madam was presenting a couple of bed warmer/concubines for Buyi.
Yuanyi and Shaoshang drove out Madam Chunyushi who told them that the engagement won’t happen if she said so.

Madam Chunyushi went to Ling Buyi’s mansion for the engagement but Liang Qiu Fei told her that the party was being held at Chengs’ mansion. He added that Madam Chunyushi should not bother going being it is by invitation only.
Madam Chunyushi went immediately to the Princess Consort of Ruyang. They gatecrashed the party. The Princess immediately called out for Shaoshang who she intend to punish to teach a lesson.
At the right moment, the Empress arrived and dealt with Princess Ruyang, who was going apoplexy with Shaoshang’s disrespect. Princess Ruyang turned on the Empress as well telling her that she does not have the backbones of Consort Yue who was just arriving with the Emperor, Lord Ruyang, and Ling Buyi.
The engagement party was so chaotic, the visitors outside felt like they were watching a tennis match.🤪
Anyway, it ended with Princess Ruyang being confined to Sancai Temple as Lord Ruyang begged the Emperor for permission to divorce. Madam Chunyushi was put under house arrest and won’t be able to saunter into the palace without an invite.
When everything quiet down, Buyi admired how his Shaoshang looked in her red gown and vice versa.
Episode 35
Shaoshang overheard Yuan Shen talking about her engagement and tackled him with it. He said that she should value his opinion being her teacher and also there seemed to be a problem everytime she gets engaged. He then continued that she was perhaps looking for fiance below her status.
This annoyed Shaoshang and said that he was as old as Buyi and yet he has no prospect of marriage.
Meanwhile, during the morning court, it was discussed that the Crown Prince was useless.
Wnag Ling was wailing outside the Empress’s palace, wanting to speak to the Empress regarding her mother who was in trouble for trying to raise an army for rebellion.
Shaoshang took it upon herself to speak for Wang Ling and her mother to the Emperor. Shaoshang said that the Empress was ill again because of worry about her cousin. Despite being evil, the Empress grew up with Wen Xiu.
The Emperor said that it was capital punishment to raise an army to rebel but he will rescind the death penalty on Wen Xiu.
Poor Wang Ling realised that she does not matter much in her mother’s scheme of things. Wang LIng then prepared to marry the much older general, Peng Kun.
The Fifth Princess was annoyed to find out that Shaoshang had been given the full task of organising the Empress’s Birthday Party. The Empress told the Princess to just to concentrate of her forthcoming wedding.
Shaoshang’s little corner of the Empress palace became. meeting place for the the Empress and Emperor and Buyi. Often, they would find Shaoshang doing another of her concoctions. The red beans with sugar cane syrup particularly pleased the emperor and rewarded Ling Buyi with 200taels of silver.
Later on, Shaoshang can’t hide her hurt feelings and said how unfair it was that she did the work but Buyi got the rewards.
The Empress said that Ling Buyi asked the Emperor to give the commendation to Shaoshang so that the Luo family would not look down on her after her marriage to A Yao.
Shaoshang finally realised after much more discussion with the kindly Empress that one she’s married to Buyi, what is his will also be hers, and what is hers will be also his.
While they were talking about properties, Ling Buyi with his Black Armoured Guard went to the Cheng Mansion. Buyi told the Chengs that Shaoshang will be staying at the palace for now, until the birthday of the Empress. So not to make Shaoshang not too homesick Buyi would like to pick a few things for Shaoshang. They agreed sadly.
But when they to Shaoshang’s bedroom later, they found that it had been completely emptied out except for a pair of curtains.
Episode 36
The Fifth Princess noticed the easy and rather loving relationship between her mother and Shaoshang and was not too happy about it especially when the Empress vetoed all her ideas and asked her to leave.
The Fifth Princess took out her ire on Shaoshang and while they were out in the palace garden, one of the maids pushed Shaoshang into the pond. Shaoshang was not an expert swimmer so she could not reach the bank easily. It did not also help that the other ladies started throwing stones at her. Then the final torture was to release a non-venomous snake into the pond which bit Shaoshang on the leg.
Shaoshang did manage to get out of the water
The Fifth Princess was not worried at all because she thought there was no witness. But then the Fifth Prince saw everything.
That night, Buyi visited Shaoshang in her quarters. He told her how much he misses her but Shaoshang started crying which alarmed Buyi.
Shaoshang then asked Buyi to hug her as tight as he could while she cried hopelessly on his shoulder.
Buyi was really beginning to worry and asked her what was the matter.
Shaoshang however chose not to tell him what she went through under the hands of the Fifth Princess and her minions and to a certain extent, the bystander Luo Jitong as well. instead, she told Buyi that she was homesick.
Buyi told her that he had been busy, he neglected her but he will show her the pressure point of life which is the mingmen located at the back around the waistline.
Shaoshang said that she wanted to learn self defense against bullies.
Buyi said that no one will bully her but Shaoshang was adamant about her request because if he was away, she might really need it.
Their short defence instructions turned into something sweetly romantic. Buyi gorgeously waltzed Shaoshang into her bed. While on top of her, he took her hand and put it on his mingmen and told her that from now on his life is on her hands. 💜💜💜💜💚💚💚💚❤️❤️❤️❤️
Then he asked Shaisheng what really happened, still she refused to say instead she asked him something to do for her.
It was the Empress’ Birthday and the surprise was a once-in-a-lifetime guzin performance from Buyi.
Everyone was impressed.
At the party, the Crown Prince saw his first love, Madam Quling. This upset the Crown Princess.
The Fifth Princess presented a dance but it ended in a domino effect when she stepped on the hem of her dress.
Meanwhile, Shaoshang and Buyi were flirting up a storm which was making Jitong so annoyed. Jitong’s expression became thundery when Shaoshang and Buyi shared the same wine bowl to drink the sweet wine.
Shaoshang saw Buyi’s bandaged finger and knew it was because of the zither. She had a compulsion to kiss him despite being in public. This is really not a problem as the Emperor is their number one matchmaker.
After giving buyi a peck on the cheek, Shaoshang went out to cool down. As she was on the bridge by the pond the Fifth Prince, who had been ordered by the Fifth Princes, tried to flirt with Shaoshang.
She then pushed him into the water. A maid of Jitong who had been sent out to spy on Shaoshang run back to the palace and announced that Shaoshang was having a tryst with the Fifth Prince.
Episode 37
Everything that happend to Shaoshang came out which shocked everyone especially Buyi and yet the Fifth Princess was unrepentant. She said that a life of a commoner is nothing. The Emperor and the Empress could not take her entitled attitude. The Emperor put her under palace arrest which made the Fifth Princess pulmonate even more and declared that her mother values an outsider rather than her own daughter.
The Empress was so upset she fainted.
Meanwhile, Buyi was so upset with Shaoshang for keeping such an incident to herself. She too was unrepentant. In fact, she blamed Buyi for what happened. She said that it was he who brought her into the palace. She admitted that she can’t talk to him because he scares her a little bit. And she wanted to solve things herself. She doesn’t have to run to him each time.
This was too much for Buyi who got jealous that she was comfortable with Luo Yao and yet scared of him.
He was leaving but Shaoshang begged him to stay and listen but he was just too upset. Shaoshang was annoyed with herself because she spouted nonsense. She had learned to like staying in the palace and now loves Buyi very much
Buyi went to make the fathers, brothers and uncles of the girls involved in bullying Shaoshang pay for what the girls did.
He then advised the Emperor to punish the Fifth Princess for going out of control. So the Princess was told to go back to her villa where she found her ten lovers side by side on the ground shrouded in white sheets and obviously dead.
She screamed that she will mend her ways.

Marquis Yue was summoned to the palace to discuss the wedding of Fifth Princess to his youngest son. The marquis tried to get out of the marriage agreement because of the Fifth Princess rather salacious reputation but Ling Buyi who was at the palace next to Emperor commented that the marquis sounded that he was discriminating against the Fifth Princess.
Ling Buyi then said that she was a daughter of the Emperor.
Marquis Yue knew that he was defeated so he doesn’t have any recourse but to accept, although rather grudginly.

By the edict of the Emperor, Crown Princess was demoted to a commoner and ordered to leave the palace.
The Crown Princess was shell-shocked but still told ShaoShang who came to see her that she did not regret anything that she had done.
Shaoshang said that she was grateful to the Crown Princess for being kind to her when she first got to the palace so she was now telling the ex-Crown Princess to live a better life and not to be trapped in a life full of hatred and jealousy.
The ex-Crown Princess said it was so hard to be in a one sided-love. She lived it for ten years.
Shao Shang said that it was not the Crown Prince who could not forget his first love but it was actually the ex-Crown Princess who obsessed with Qu Lingjun. She neurotically plotted to make Qu Lingjun’s life miserable over the years instead of living a good life with the Crown Prince.
Shaoshang was upset for the ex-Crown Princess, who seemed to have become deranged with grief. The Ex-Princess said that she will not leave the palace alive. The palace is the best place for her.
Shaoshang was forced to tell the Ex-Crown Princess that the palace was not her trap but it was her heart, meaning Shaoshang knew that no man is worth that much emotion. Whoa!
Shaoshang was gossiping with a very attentive Ling Buyi about the state of events. After his divorce from the Crown Princess, the Crown Prince did not marry the widowed Qu Lingjun.
Instead, Qu Lingjun married Official Liang, the adopted brother of her dead husband.
Ling Buyi said that this turn of events was more suitable because her children will be looked after by the upright Official Liang as his own.
Shaoshang agreed.
Ling Buyi used this as a way of flirting with Shaoshang. He pretended that he was crashed and that she holds another man in high regards. aww!
Aww Shaoshang flirted back and told him that her unlucky start in life was actually a blessing in disguise because all luck had stacked up so she could meet Ling Buyi.
Ling Buyi said that on the contrary, it was he who is the lucky one.
She told him that he has such sweet lips! To make it sweeter, she will buy him candied fruits. She saw the line of women buying sweets but she should have not worried because Ling Buyi and his Black Armoured Guards had everything under control. They swept the queue away as Buyi escorted Shaoshang into a now cleared path towards the fruit candy vendor.
Buyi gave a lot of money to the vendor which overwhelmed the seller telling him that he was overpaying.
Buyi said that he was paying for everyone as he looked around the other women quietly waiting for their turns behind the Black Armoured Guards. Shaoshang did not feel too guilty anymore.
Their romantic promenading was cut abruptly when there was an announcement at the palace.
A very heinous thing had happened. Shouchun had defected to the other side which meant an imminent war is about to occur.
The next few scenes are the sweetest and funniest so far for me.
Ling Buyi will lead the battle to arrest Peng Yuan.
Shaoshang sneaked to Buyi’s barracks and noted the lack of security to the place. She told him that if she had been a martial artist she could have killed him without being stopped.
Buyi laughed and showed him that he actually pre-warned his Black Armour Guards of her presence.
Buyi brought Shaoshang to the barrack’s tower and showed her the surrounding land. He told her that the Emperor had gifted the land to him. He said that Shaoshang can start building the dream house she wanted for them to live in when they got married.
Shaoshang who was looking particularly beautiful with her updo hair kissed Ling Buyi because he is someone who understands her truly.
Shaoshang decided to make an amour wing for Buyi. I love this scene when she seriously prepared the needle and the thread ready to sew. At first stitch, Shaoshang was already screaming because of a bleeding finger.
Liangfang said to Shaoshang that she would do it for her but Shaoshang refused because she must do it for her honey.
She was so gratified when she saw Buyi looking so gorgeously masculine in his suit of armour with the addition of the wing.
Buyi told her that he loves it.
Shaoshang said it was mandarin duck wings that are about loyalty and fidelity.
Buyi said that he thought that it was chicken wings but she says it is mandarin wings then it is mandarin wings.
She then asked him if she saw the little rabbit embroidery she did for his inside vest.
Buyi said he did not know that it was a rabbit, he thought that it was a rat. But if she says it is a rabbit then it is a rabbit.
Shaoshang was rather annoyed and told him it was a rabbit, to begin with.
The Emperor, the Empress and the Noble Consort were watching them from the balcony. The Emperor said that the two young lovers were so showy.
The Noble Consort reminded him that he was much worst when they were young. The poor Empress once again was the third wheel, an outsider to the Emperor and his beloved noble consort.
Buyi went back astride his horse and then threw a package to Shaoshang. When she looked at it, she found that it was Ling Buyi’s seal. While he is away, she is in charge of his house and chattel.

The Empress comforted Niaoniao and gave her a permit letter to visit her family in prison. This made me cry. she won’t return. The Empress knew how headstrong Shaoshhang was,

Shaoshang decided to move back to the Changqui Palace to serve the deposed Empress much to her mother’s grief who begged Shaoshang not to go but it was a little too late.

I could not recommend this drama highly enough. If you are new to Chinese dramas (cdrama), then this drama is the first one to start with.
The days passed quickly, it turned into months and then years. Many things had happened.
The Cheng Family grew. Cheng Song married Qiqi. Cheng Yang married Ban Jia, QingCong married Cheng Cheng, father of Cheng Yang, Liangfang married Fu Deng.
Then the babies came; Qiqi had twins.
But all this time, Shaoshang stayed in the palace and never saw anyone of her relatives.
The Fifth Princess had married and seemed to have turned a new leaf.
Meanwhile, Hou Buyi stayed at the Northern Border. His raison d’etre was all about fighting. He was warring day and night until he dropped.
He was so tired, that he actually just dropped from his horse.
It was a newly widowed Lou Ji Tong, having killed her husband, who took care of Buyi.
But as soon as he was well, he banished Ji Tong from his tent.
I must say that Buyi looked ruggedly handsome with a little mustache.
Five years later..
Empress Xuan was getting weaker from her terminal illness. She told Shaoshang that she wanted to see her settled before she passed.
Shaoshang wanted to make Empress Xuan be peaceful so she finally ‘accepted’ Yuan Shen’s proposal to marry but she was honest with him telling him that Hou Buyi is still in her heart.
Buyi was summoned to the Capital because of Empress Xuan’s worsening condition.
The Emperor was agog with excitement at finally seeing his foster son once again. He noticed how much Buyi looked like his real father, Huo Chong. It was a tearful reunion,
The Emperor had told Buyi that Shaoshang had been living like a nun at Changqui Palace that is but she was not going to get engaged to Yuan Shen. The Emperor found out how Buyi had been protecting her and her family from afar. He told Buyi that perhaps if Showshang found out about Buyi’s protection, she might forgive him.
Buyi said that this would only enrage Shaoshang who always wanted to do things her own way because she doesn’t want to be controlled.
The Third Prince mentioned the gossip in town that Buyi will marry Lou Ji Tong.
Buyi immediately denied that there was anything between him and Ji Tong. He then ordered Liang Qiu Fei to prepare a dowry for Ji Tong and marry her off to someone in the Northern Region.
Buyi had decided never to get married or have any children.
Aww, their first meeting after five years was epic.
Buyi saw Shaoshang and walked towards her with so much longing on his face. As he got nearer, Shaoshang still looking so hurt turned her back and walked away to get into her horse.
She then felt her foot being guided into the stirrup by Buyi.❤️❤️❤️❤️. She remembered a time a long time ago when he did the same thing when she was learning to ride a horse at Qiqi’s place. This made me tear up.
Shaoshang noticed Buyi’s hand which was crusty and sore (He was also wearing the shaoshang on his wrist). When she asked what happened, he quickly told her that it was due to frostbite.
He then warned her to ride carefully in the future.
Shaoshang told General Hou that she was not the same Shaoshang of years ago. She can even ride horses now even without a stirrup.
Poor Yuan Shen felt like a third wheel but he did tell Buyi as they watched Shaoshang ride away to keep away from his fiancee.
Yuan Shen was shocked when Buyi humbly bowed to him and left.
Back at Changqui Palace, Ji Tong was visiting the Empress. Ji Tong can’t help but bragged that her engagement to Buyi is imminent.
Seeing that Shaoshang was a little bothered by the news, the Empress told Ji Tong that it was time for her to leave.
Nanny Zhai came in and announced for Ji Tong to go home because General Hou had just sent her parents dowry and a bronze mirror and ordered to find her a husband.
Shaoshang could not help her smirk, knowing that Jitong had been lying.
Ji Tong immediately went to Buyi’s residence. She told him that she thought that they had a tacit agreement that he would marry her because of her accompanying him on the northern border.
Buyi said that he had once a girl who accompanied him. They ate together, they laughed together, etc. What he had with Ji Tong was anything but. She just sneaked in to wash is clothes but they never had a conversation.
When Ji Tong was still complaining, Buyi, told her that he knew about her murdering past. And ended it by saying that even without Shaoshang in the picture, he would never look at Ji Tong. Harsh❤️❤️❤️
Episode 53
Ji Tong was not giving up easily. She went to Shaoshang and apologised for the misinformation about her wedding to Buyi.
Ji Tong then said that she was leaving for the northwest but before she does, she wanted to do something for the Empress and Shaoshang could help her with it.
She asked Shaoshang to go with her to find a super doctor that could cure the Empress.
After fifteen minutes in Ji Tong’s carriage, Shaoshang realised that she was actually being abducted.
Buyi had a very sad and tearful reunion with the Empress, who told him a secret. Shaoshang was not really engaged with Yuan Shen.
Nanny Zhai told Buyi that Ji Tong had taken Shaoshang in her carriage. Buyi was so scared for Shaoshang but in no time he was able to find Shaoshang with Ji Tong in the carriage.
Ji Tong had a knife pointed at Shaoshang. Without hesitation, he grabbed the blade. The carriage though was heading towards a ravine but he just managed to grab Shaoshang before the carriage with Ji Tong inside fell into the cliff with the poor horses.
Shaoshang ordered Buyi to let her go and save himself as they hang into the side of the ravine. Shaoshang said that if he let her go, he has a chance to save himself.
Buyi said that he will let go of her when he dies. ❤️❤️❤️. She said that even if he dies for her, she will never forgive him.
Buyi shouted at her and said ‘I Won’t live without you.” He continued on that he knows she cannot forgive him but since they bit each other’s arms as a love token, he had already considered her as his wife. ❤️❤️❤️ Therefore, she lives, he lives, she dies, he dies.❤️❤️❤️
They got rescued by Buyi’s men. At the top of the ravine, they were back in their old cold selves. When Buyi asked to send her back to the palace, Shaoshang declined his offer. Shaoshang was a little surprised when Buyi just walked away quietly.
Then a messenger came to advise Buyi and Shaoshang that the Empress had not much to live.
Everyone was gathered around the Empress who was cradled by the Emperor.
She thanked the Emperor for his kindness but she hopes they won’t meet again in the next life.🤣🤣🤣
Heng said to the Empress that she had always thought of her as a sister.
The Empress said to Shaoshang and Buyi that she hoped that the two could make up. She asked Shaoshang to bring a lock of hair to the mountain where she was at her happiest with her father.
Shaoshang was overwrought with grief and fainted in the rain outside where Buyi found her.
Buyi carried her to her family’s house.
General Cheng and Yuanyi were surprised to see Buyi and blamed him for Shaoshang’s state.
Buyi told him that Shaoshang was grief-stricken because the Empress had passed.
Episode 54
Shaoshang and Buyi are more civil to one another but had not reconciled. She told him that she hated him leaving her; she hated him going his own way and for deciding to jump into the cliff rather than stay by her side. She truly loved him and showed him her true self but he repaid it with lies. 😭😭
She told him that after five years, she had come to terms with everything and it is impossible for them to resume where they left off. She can never trust him again.
Buyi said that his life in the Northwest was full of regrets.
Buyi, stop making me cry.😭😭😭
Buyi said that he betrayed her trust in the most hurtful way possible after her phobia of being abandoned so he does not expect forgiveness.😭😭😭. Buyi was crying and I was crying too.
Shaoshang said her final goodbye to Buyi. She told him that she will make a pilgrimage to the late Empress hometown and from there she will travel around the world.
Buyi hopelessly said that after he had accomplished his mission of assisting the land distribution order, he will return to the Northwest to guard the borders.
They then smiled resignedly at each other and walked their separate ways. But if Shaoshang had looked back she would have seen how Buyi was so gutted.😭😭
Yuanyi was a different mother to Shaoshang. She is now very nurturing but a tad too late for a grieving Niaoniao.
Niaoniao was slightly moved when Yuanyi tearfully said that if they could bring back time, she would do it differently. She won’t be bullied by Grandma and Madam Ge into leaving Niaoniao behind with them.
This is the sixth time I have seen the last few episodes but it makes me cry each time.
On her way to see her Grandmother, she overheard her telling Nanny that if she could do it all over again, she would treat Niaoniao differently. She added that she hopes Niaoniao gets married one day but if she does not, she had already advised Cheng Shi that she was leaving all her money and jewelries to Shaoshang so she had something to fall back on.
Despite what she heard, Niaoniao was most grateful to Liangfang the most. She credits her for keeping her alive and sane. Niaoniao confessed that she wanted to make up with Grandma but she just couldn’t at the moment. She still blames her for how she turned out after years of neglect and separation from her parents.
She does realise that Grandma was not all bad because she came through during the Cheng Family’s time of need.
Zhao Lusi’s acting is so brilliant. You can feel that sadness that makes you feel like you are looking in from above, you know like you were not there but observing.
Shaoshang went to see Yuan Shen and bid him farewell. This really sad.
Yuan Shen told her to leave without looking back because if she does, he might regret letting her go to Hou Buyi. What he did not say was that he was going to cry like a baby and did not want her to see him. He is a lovely bloke who fell for her at first sight during the lantern festival.
Huh?!!! There was almost a BL (boy love) moment between Yuan Shen and Buyi when they met up.
Yuan Shen said that he can understand why Buyi kept putting his life in danger just to help the Cheng men but he wanted to now why Buyi protected the Yuan family as well.
Buyi said that aside from Yuan Shen’s family it was Buyi who cared about him the most!😜🤗🤗🤗
It is of course, because of Shaoshang. If Yuan Shen is healthy and happy then Shaoshang will have peace of mind❤️❤️❤️
This is the reason why Buyi was making sure that all the people that Shaoshang cares about, including Luo Yao, are safe.
Yuan Shen surrendered. He said that Buyi was more foolishly in love with Shaoshang so he will give way.
Shaoshang started her travel to the mountains. she was accompanied by her twin. Along the way, they met Luo li who insisted that they drop by to see Yao and Zhaojun.
Luo Li was very insistent so out of politeness, Shaoshang agreed to go with her.
Shaoshang had dinner with Ayao, a heavily pregnant Zhaojun, and Lou Li. Shaoshang noticed a vacant table which also laden with food. She was just about to ask who the missing diner was when Zhaojun had contractions.
Ayao left instantly to get a midwife for his wife leaving Louli nd Shaoshang to look after Zhaojun.
Meanwhile, Buyi with his Black Armour Guards was ambushed by bandits. After defeating the bandits, they found out that there was something amiss that was happening at Hua County. Buyi led his men to go to Hua County immediately
Episode 55
While Ayao is away, Lou Li turned into a virago and started attacking Shaoshang for being instrumental in Lou Ben killing himself. His death and shame killed her parents and she blames Shaoshang and Buyi for these.
Lou LI was trying to stab Shaoshang who was able to get away and drag Zhaojun to the safety of a secret chamber.
Lou LI was left screaming outside but then the supposedly dead Wang Yan Ji turned up and told her to leave Shaoshang and Zhaojun as the Secret Chamber will be their death.
Wang Yan Ji then stabbed Lou Li to death.
Meanwhile, inside the chamber, Shaoshang found Yuan Shen tethered in steel rope. He told her that his investigation in Hua County got him into trouble. He told her that she will not be able to undo the key to his chains.
Shaoshang told him that there is no lock that she can’t unlock. And she was right this time because she managed to get him out of his tether. As she was escorting both a weakened Yuan Shen and Zhaojun, the floor suddenly gave in throwing them into an underground chamber.
Just before the floor above closed up again, someone jumped in.
It was Hou Buyi who saw Shaoshang and went immediately to check on her.
Shaoshang was not amused. She scolded him and said why would he jump into a trap.
Buyi said that he was led to Hou Country because of someone very important to him.
The most important person to him was her so here he was.
Your being alive is the most important thing. ❤️❤️❤️
“You are so dumb” was all Shaoshang could say to him.
Buyi said when you had done so many dumb things, you can’t tell what is dumb and what is not.
Finally, Shaoshang forgave Hou Buyi after she thought he had died from the explosion in the underground part of the Lou family mansion.
Episode 56
It is a happy heartwarming ending. They were all looking up the sky and would probably have stiff necks afterwards.
This drama had been the most successful one for the summer release and I think a major reason why this drama was loved by all was the release of the BTS (behind the scenes) of the cast, especially of Wu Lei as Bu Yi and LuSi as Shaoshang. Their characters were made so real so it became to relatable.
