Greeting The Queen

If you happen to see the Queen of England, there are some protocols to follow.  It is not the done thing to grab her hand and give it a good friendly shake.  And certainly a definite NO to air-kiss her as if she was some distant relative.

We must always remember that our Queen is the head of the Church of England; she is the defender of the faith and as such must be shown respect.

Greeting The Queen

The Queen meets thousands of people each year in the UK and overseas. Before meeting Her Majesty, many people ask how they should behave. The simple answer is that there are no obligatory codes of behavior – just courtesy.

However, many people wish to observe the traditional forms of greeting.

For men this is a neck bow (from the head only) whilst women do a small curtsy. Other people prefer simply to shake hands in the usual way.

On presentation to The Queen, the correct formal address is ‘Your Majesty’ and subsequently ‘Ma’am’.
