Be Still for the Presence Of the Lord

Hymn

Be Still for the Presence Of the Lord

Beautiful, beautiful hymn.

I thought this hymn was old, because it has that classic tune about it but apparently it was only composed in 1986 by David J Evans.

………………………………………………………..

Be Still for the Presence Of the Lord

Be still for the presence of the Lord
The Holy One is here
Come bow before Him now
With reverence and fear

In Him no sin is found
We stand on holy ground
Be still for the presence of the Lord
The Holy One is here

Be still for the glory of the Lord
Is shining all around
He burns with holy fire
With splendor He is crowned

How awesome is the sight
Our radiant King of Light
Be still for the glory of the Lord
Is shining all around

Be still for the power of the Lord
Is moving in this place
He comes to cleanse and heal
To minister His grace
No work too hard for Him
In faith receive from Him
Be still for the power of the Lord
Be still
Is moving in this place

Do Not Be Afraid – Hymn

I went to All Saints’ Church last Sunday and one of the beautiful hymns sang was Do Not Be Afraid. It was the first time I’ve heard this hymn but I just let myself be engulfed and embraced by its sheer beauty and simplicity. I felt soothed somehow. I love the part where God called me by my name and I am his. I felt precious and comforted.

God be the glory.

“Do not be afraid” was written by an English Roman Catholic teacher, Gerald Markland, based on Isaiah 43:1-4

Isaiah 43:1-4 New International Version (NIV)

Israel’s Only Savior

43 But now, this is what the Lord says—
    he who created you, Jacob,
    he who formed you, Israel:
“Do not fear, for I have redeemed you;
    I have summoned you by name; you are mine.
When you pass through the waters,
    I will be with you;
and when you pass through the rivers,
    they will not sweep over you.
When you walk through the fire,
    you will not be burned;
    the flames will not set you ablaze.
For I am the Lord your God,
    the Holy One of Israel, your Savior;
I give Egypt for your ransom,
    Cush[a] and Seba in your stead.
Since you are precious and honored in my sight,
    and because I love you,
I will give people in exchange for you,
    nations in exchange for your life.
