Episode 1
Jiro Wang plays the emperor Wen Lou who has an extensive harem.
His eunuch gave him a couple of trays with the name of his concubines. He can choose one that he will be bedding for the night.
This time he chose Bu Meng not because he particularly fancied her but because she has to pay for the slight or debt her father, Imperial Censor Bu, caused or owed to the emperor.
Bu Meng is contented in the palace but she does not like having to service the emperor, so tries to make herself as inconspicuous as possible so she does not get any attention, especially from the Emperor.

When the eunuch has come to fetch her, she did everything to repulse the order including drenching her clothes in poo.
She was hiding in the garden when the emperor happened to find her cooing to a cuckoo. The emperor had asked her who she was but she headbutted the emperor and gave him a nosebleed, Mengfei panicked and run away.
The Emperor called all the members of his harem and had a look at his concubine one by one.
Sure enough, he recognised Mengfei, she had told him that she has an allergic reaction to face cream so her face is full of acne and pimples.
Despite Mengfei not wanting to be with the Emperor, many do because he is quite handsome.
Episode 2
Mengfei was punished for a 10-day house arrest. The emperor was very surprised that she was not complaining.
MengFei is becoming a favourite of the emperor.
The Noble Lady Ru was upset about it and was going to punish Mengfei. Luckily the emperor heard about it and intervened.
But Mengfei’s trouble did not stop. Her two fellow concubines who had become her friends are also being targeted. One was almost pushed into the water to drown while the other’s manor was set on fire. Mengfei herself was almost poisoned.
Thank goodness for Noble Lady Xiao who helped in all their cases.
They asked Noble Lady Xiao if she was in love with the emperor? She said no she has already someone in her heart.
Apparently, Noble Lady Xiao used to pretend as a man so she could enter the army under her father, who was a general.
In the army, she fell for Shen Shang who told her that he will ask for permission to marry her after the war.
Unfortunately, her father died and Shen Shang had not come for her so to protect her, the emperor who was her friend made her as one of his concubines.
Episode 3
Everyone was obsessed with the novel, Lady in the Palace., especially Noble consort Ru, who sees herself as the protagonist of the novel.
It is about the Princess who was much admired and being fought over by a least seventeen men.
When the novel stopped at a crucial point, Mengfei started adding chapters to it as a revenge to Consort Ru, who eventually found out about it.
She was on her way to castigate her but someone had gotten to Menfei and warned her. She was advised to go to the palace as the safest place to avoid Consort Ru’s wrath.
In the palace he found the emperor having a contented bathing time.
As soon as he saw her, he was going to shout but she covered his mouth with her hand and jumped into the bath with him as soon as she heard the fast approaching footstep of Consort Ru.
There she stayed and the emperor protected her.
Episode 4
Consort Ru is desperate to seduce the Emperor to get herself pregnant so she can cement her position as the most powerful woman behind the throne.
She first applied an obnoxious concoction that she was told was an aphrodisiac. Instead, they start talking about her and her stinkiness.
Even the Emperor who came to visit her told her that she should have a bath.
This did not stop her, she then learnt to belly dance.
The emperor was not seduced really but wanted to know whether it hurts to shake her arms and shoulders.
She then continues her seduction by giving the emperor a drink. But to make it sexier, she drinks the wine and then would kiss him to pass the wine. But it was not going well because she kept swallowing the wine herself.
On her third cup, she fell on the emperor’s arm asleep.
The emperor was leaving but his chief eunuch has told him that he should stay with Consort Ru to prevent her powerful father from complaining that she is being ignored by the emperor.
He stayed the whole night in her room reading books.
In the morning, Consort Ru was woken by her maid with the good news that the king stayed with her all night.
After a few days, her maid had her convinced that she was pregnant. She was eating more and she was becoming puffy in the face.
She was so convinced that she was pregnant, she told the emperor, who disabused her of her idea that he did anything with her that night.
Consort Ru was so upset.
Episode 5
This is rather a bizarre episode involving a chicken.
Anyway, the Emperor was watching a cockfighting. His beloved rooster, Small white won his fights.
Then enters Mengfei, who jinxed Small White. He just keeled over. Despite the Imperial doctor attending to Small White, it died.
The Emperor what so annoyed he order that Menfei is beheaded. She fainted on the spot, the emperor then decreed that the doctor is also beheaded. He also fainted right next to Mengfei.
Anyway, the Emperor did not push through his order of execution but he was really sad.
As punishment for Mengfei, she had to provide a grand and extravagant funeral for Small White.
Before it can be buried, Small White had turned into a beautiful but rather scary spirit. She bullies the four concubines.
She demands tributes and payment, not just food but jewelry.
Anyway, Mengfei cannot take it anymore she sneaked out and went into the palace to see the Emperor. She told him that his Small White had turned into a vengeful spirit.
The Emperor though she had gone mad he indulged her anyway and went to see the spirt.
Immediately he told her that she was a concubine who was super strong and knew magic tricks. She was no spirit.
Anyway, Mengfei went to speak to the Spirit who admitted that she was lying but she wanted to leave the palace but she needed money.
So Mengfei helped her to take anything she could carry and get out of the palace ground.
