The Zen of the Bowl

This Ming bowl is an antique.  Be on the look out for one; you might have something of this kind in your loft, attic or long forgotten chest of drawers.

If you have got one, you are in the money 🙂

You never know!

A bit of Zen Buddhism here …

What do you thing is the most valuable part of this priceless antique bowl? (Or any bowl for that matter)

Is it its beautifully detailed design?

Is it because of its renowned porcelain material?

Is it because of its monetary value, being an antique?

Apparently, wait for this,  it is its emptiness!  Its very emptiness, which has the ability to hold apples, pear, potatoes or bananas (or anything and everything) that makes the bowl functional.  Without its ability to be of use, it loses its identity as a bowl.

That is deep!  hehehe A deep bowl, indeed! 😉

Rare Ming bowl sells for $18m at auction

The above Ming ceramic bowl was auctioned in Hong Kong’s Sotheby’s. It created a bidding frenzy, and it eventually sold for $18m (£11.2m).

I bet you wanted to know, as I, why a little porcelain bowl can cost so much?

Apparently this particular piece is rather rare and has the history of having been a royal ware used by a 15th century king.

This Ming bowl created a record of being the second most expensive piece of Ming porcelain ever auctioned.

I wonder what the most expensive ming porcelain was?!!!

Let us know if you knew!
