One day someone calls her “Mother.” That is what she remains for the rest of her life.
– Cao Xueqin
To our Mommy
Happy Mother’s Day. You are one extraordinary, very special mother! You did not give up when Daddy passed away. Instead, you became even stronger. You did not cave in. You are more than capable mother and father to us. You pushed us to be the best that we can be and I think you have succeeded. 😉
You are also very funny. Our house was always noisy with laughter. I still remember when you asked William to go to the shop to get some Vetsin (monosodium glutamate) from the corner shop for your cooking. When I said that there was something on the radio about MSG killing brain cells, you said full of humour: “Don’t worry you have enough brain cells, a few dead ones won’t matter!” LMAO! That is a mother’s pride of her children, not a brain cell monster. LOL
You are my inspiration, my role model. I am so very, very sorry I have not said that to you. However, it is the truth. If I am faced with anything that is beyond my control, I always ask my self, “What would my mother do in this situation?”
I am not going to say that you are perfect because no one is. Your little imperfections make you so human, the best. You say what you do not want, you show what annoys you, you are so direct that sometimes it is hard to listen to what you say. I thought these were faults but I have come to realise that those were characters that made us what we are, you brought us up to be able to face the world with confidence and humour. I do not suffer fools gladly because of you. If I say so myself, I think you have created World class Filipinas and Filipinos because of who we are, how we are, what we are; what we can do and why we are, and definitely not because we use some brand of shampoo, which strangely enough is the prerequisite to being World Class Filipinos if Creme Silk is to be believed. LOL
I hear people here in London saying so many lovely things, some admiring things about me and often wish to myself, “I hope my mother can hear these”, because I know you would have been so proud.
Happy Mother’s Day, Mommy!
Remember, your mother carried you for nine months, and in some cases still carrying YOU. LOL
Happy Mother’s Day
