Halo-Halo Special

Halo-Halo Special

I love this photo taken by Marilou Wamil Velasco, my sister.

L-R, our Mummy, Me and Peter.  We were at Iceberg in Tutuban Shopping Centre in Manila, Philippines in December 2012.

I introduced Peter to Halo-halo and he loved it, can get enough of it.  He would have one every time we were in a restaurant in the Philippines.

Halo-halo literally means mix-mix or stir-stir.  This Halo-halo concoction has a plethora of little bits.  It has jackfruit (langka), ube (purple yam) leche flan, beans, kaong, baby coconut shreds, tapioca, nata de coco, sugar and crushed ice in a tall glass which is drenched in evaporated milk and then topped with a scoop of ice-cream.  You then had to keep mixing it in the glass; that is probably why it is called Halo-halo.

Apparently Americans are developing a taste for this truly Filipino merienda.  They are becoming big in LA, the halo-halo not the people. LOL
