Snow in London

Freezing Friday in London today and most of England and UK became blanketed under the white stuff. The heaviest fall so far this winter. My Lovely Wife blogged the first light fall on Monday.

When we walked our little 12 week puppy at 6.30am this morning, before going to work  it was clear and  freezing. The snow flakes began to fall at 8am where we live and about an hour later where I work in central South London. It came down thick and fast and started to settle. We had about 3cm nearly 2 inches with 5cm and more in some areas. Once again our public transport system was unprepared with delays on the trains even Heathrow Airport cancelled flights, much to the sorrow of kids, schools were closed 😉 LOL

My colleagues struggled to get into work and some left earlier in the afternoon. More snow is expected this weekend…time for humans to hibernate for a couple of days.

Tree Fern

TREE FERN

The first two photos were taken of my tree fern last January 2011, when snow was especially heavy and strong.

To protect the tree fern, my husband wrapped its trunk with one of my old thick woolen jackets. This seems to have done the trick as my tropical plant has continued to grow and spout healthy fronds.

During the summer the tree fern unfurls its leaves and do a good job of showing lovely verdant foliage which gives a lovely backdrop to summer flowers.
