Quick Precis:
A man acquired a pair of golden eyes due to an accident. His new eyes brought him to a new height of thrilling adventure.
Episode 1
It is an exciting first episode.
Zhuang Rui attended a school reunion with his classmates from the history department of Peking University. They had fun remembering things, talking about jobs and prospects over a noisy karaoke.
A rich school friend arranged for a lift for them but someone Zhuang Rui was left out.
As the train had stopped working for the day, and he left his phone at work, Zhuang Rui decided to go back to the pawn shop where he worked to fetch his mobile.
He was looking at the selfies and groupies on his phone when three men wearing Guy Fawkes masks came tearing down on the various displays within the pawnshop.
Zhuang Rui moves at a speed of light kicking and punching the three intruders.
He then got hold of their shotgun and shot them one by one. He was standing over their body like a dark manga hero and then he woke up from his daydream.
But inspired by his daydream, he activated the alarm and then he jumped into the intruders but clumsily missed a few feet away from the intruders.. They then tried to hurt him but he got away but not from the flying shards of ceramic that cut through his eyes.
He woke up later in the hospital and created a bit of consternation among the patients and other visitors. This was due to Zhuang Rui walking around in the hospital with his eyes completely bound by bandages/
Someone asked if he needed help but he was surprised by the question. He then went to the men’s toilet for a noisy wee. He then went to wash his hands (good man) and then noticed his eyes covered in bandages.
He was puzzled though as he can see everything, even through ways and clothing.
He went back to his hospital bed and removed his bandages. He tried on own his old reading glasses but found that they only make his very clear eyesight cloudy.
The eye doctor came to see him and told him off for removing his own bandages. After examination, the doctor said his eyes are fine and he can leave.
Zhuang Rui though was not satisfied. He said to the doctor that his eyes feel strange. He can see everything clearly. The doctor laughed off his concern.
Before he left the hospital a couple of police officers came to see him for questioning about the intruders at the pawnshop.
He told them everything but somehow, Miao Feifei suspects that he was not telling the whole truth.
Miao Feifei was told by her police chief to hand over the case to Unit 2 but Feifei explained to the chief that she had a good hunch and can solve this case with the help of the witness Zhuang Rui.
Zhuang Rui went back to the pawnshop with Uncle De (?) who originally recommended him to the pawnshop as an assistant. Unfortunately for Rui, the pawnshop owner fired him.
His friend who was a failing entrepreneur, came to visit him and trying to convince him to go do business together.
Episode 2
His friend was absolutely convinced that a little bottle given to him by a client as a payment was an expensive antique. Rui knew immediately that it would cost at a couple of yuan.
To indulge his friend, he went with him to an antique market where he saw a black gourd which is a valuable antique.
The trader wanted 5K for it but he managed to haggle to 600 yuan. As soon as he had paid for it a lady appeared wanting to buy the gourd herself.
In the end Rui was able to sell the black gourd for 800K which is actually a red gourd as confirmed by Uncle De, who happened to walk by.
Suddenly the two friends are rich. But Rui’s friend is spending their new found wealth like there is no tomorrow.
The next day they went to the antique market again, but could not find any real antique.
While in the market they got into trouble with a dealer because they interfered with the sale of a fake white and blue vase to an American tourist. During the disagreement, they saw Miao Feifei, who was following a man who she noticed had been following her.
It turned out they were after the antique jade eye she was carrying as evidence.
Episode 3
Rui bought a bowl for 600K and then found out that it came in a set for it to be valuable.
As Rui and FuYun have spent their money, they are back into dining on ramen again, until Uncle De told Rui to attend an auction for the experience.
During the auction, there were frenetic biddings on most things until a rather sedate and ordinary looking painting was presented with the value of 12K.
Rui wanted the painting badly but he not enough money. He only has 9K. Seeing that he really wanted the painting, a fat gentleman Mr Ma said he will give him the 3K Rui shortfall so he can buy the painting.
Rui was so thankful of Mr Ma. He brought him to Uncle De’s workshop and there Uncle De told them more about the painting with a conservative value of 10M.
Uncle De was impressed that Rui has such good eyes (if he only he knew) that he thinks Rui will overtake his expertise soon.
Mr Ma said that he will buy the painting for 15M.
Rui was not overjoyed.
Seeing this Mr Ma said he will add more but Rui said that if Mr Ma really wanted the painting then he will sell it to him for 5M.
Mr Ma was taken aback with Rui’s generosity when he said that he would have not been able to afford to buy the painting without the 3K from Mr Ma.
Mr Ma was overwhelmed. He told Rui to call on him anytime when he needed any help.
Out of the blue Miss Qin of the Katydid called him up to meet up. They were seen by her ‘friend’ who more or less told Rui to back off, never to see Miss Qin again.
Rui found out more about his gift of golden eyes. He was told that the myth started in Guangzhou. So he was going there under the cover of his university friend’s wedding.
Episode 4
While Rui is away FuYun is creating very expensive mayhem. He was in an auction when he bumped into one of the exhibits.
He ended up having to pay two million for the broken vase.
Rui was helping in an archaeological dig which was halted for the moment.
It so happened that Fei Fei was chasing the thieves and saw Rui. She does not trust him at all and told him to go see her in the evening.
He was on his way to see her when he almost got kidnapped by the same art thieves who raided the pawnshop.
He ended up having to help compose a photofit for the leader of the thieves.
