Quick Precis:

The story is about the 10-year struggle of a girl from the countryside to assimiliate into the busy and frenetic life of Shanghai, thereby losing herself in the process.

Episode 1

First you will notice with this drama is that the cast is beautiful especially the main leads.

This first episode is quite watchable.  You wanted to see more afterwards.

Liu Wen Jing was a young woman who ran away from the countryside to escape an arranged marriage her parents were forcing her to do.

Her first day in Shanghai was very eventful and not in a good way.  She ended up in the middle of a guy snatching a purse from a lady, Xu Wei.

Wen Jing thought that the person running was the snatcher so she gave him a smack right in his nose.

Mouse and Plug ran after the real snatcher and they all ended up in the police station.

When everything was sorted, she went looking for her cousin he was not in the place she knew he was going to be.

Desperate, she saw a waitressing vacancy with includes free board and lodging.  She got the job but Mouse continued to worry over her.

Xin Tian Ming said not to worry about Wen Jing because she now works in a bar.

Mouse only worried more and went to search. for her uncle.

When they found him, her cousin was sympathetic to her plight but not so much his wife.

But she stayed and will work for them as bar work was dangerous.

Episode 2

Plug was gutted then Hua Hua’s boyfriend came to pick her up.

Mouse has a crush on Wen Jing and wanted to include her in his clique.

So he did his best to invite her to dinner with his friends.  But when she turned, Mouse has not arrived at his own dinner party but Tian Ming, Hua Hua, Plug and Xu Wei were already there.

They were trying to hide their shock at how Wen Jing looked.

She looked like a young Pocahontas let out in a beauty counter alone.

When Mouse arrived he was barely able to cover his laughter but he was so cutely incorrigible.

They had crabs during dinner.

Wenjing used her hands to eat them without the artifice of delicacy or etiquette.  Everyone was looking at ill-mannered way of eating but the Prof (Tian Ming) grab his crab and proceeded to eat it the way Wenjing was gnawing her crab, shell and all,

Then they got to the king crab.  But this time, Tian Ming cannot control his anger anymore.  Not particularly at Wenjing’s uncouth manner but she became the subject of his displaced anger.  He was fulminating about his father’s marriage to someone who is the same age as Tian Ming and they were planning to have a baby.

So as he cannot control his ire towards his father, he let ripped, bent his spleen on Wen Jing.  He asked if she even looked in the mirror before she left the house or what was her hair about? He did not even want to start on her dress!

Wenjing was absolutely humiliated.

She left immediately followed by a very apologetic Mouse.

Mouse asled Hua Hua to take Wenjing shopping and do help her managed her hair and make up.

Wenjing was absolutely stunning the next time she went out to dinner with Mouse and friends.

Later on, with the high heels when was wearing, she sprained her ankle and Tian Miing ended up carrying her.  She teased him looking like a donkey.

The next day at her cousin’s restaurant, their landlord came in and showed lascivious interest in Tian Ming.

Episode 3

Wenjing is slowly getting used to life in the city, living in Shanghai.  but she almost got Mouse into trouble when he took her to the cinema.  She was like a little girl, so noisy and chattered all the time which annoyed some of those watching the movie as well.

Mouse stood for her but Wenjing said not to escalate it.

Her cousin’s wife arranged for Wenjing to have dinner with the lecherous Mr Zhang.  Her cousin tried to intervened but he was just too weak-willed compared to his wife.

Mr Zhang tried to get Wenjing drunk but she ran off.  She was savvy enough to realise that Mr Zhang wanted more than dinner.

Wenjing did not go home to his cousin’s house.  They began to worry about her contacted Mouse who was away on business.

Mouse worried and asked Tian Ming to look for Wenjing.

He found her and took her to his place.

The next morning she was gone.  It so happened that Mouse arrived and they went looking for her.

They found her at the station.  Mouse was so happy and asked her to be his girlfriend,  He will look after her.

What he did not mention was he was still living like a student.  He had a couple of male flatmates who were rather uncomfortable to be staying with a beautiful girl.

Plug told Huahua that her boyfriend was married.

Huahua did not want to hear and told him not to tell the others.

Episode 4

Mouse moved Wenjing out of the apartment because the boys were not prepared to be more circumspect with a girl around.

They moved to another apartment.

Wenjing looked for a job as an admin but she was not used to the office technology so she was not kept on. But was too embarrassed to tell Mouse and their friends.

She later got a job as a nanny, housekeeper.

Hua Hua and Xu Wei were training her to be a posh girl as an experiment, some sort of Eliza Dolittle in My Fair Lady.

Episode 5

Hua Hua, Xu Wei and Wei Jing attended a posh party.  Xu Wei dressed Wei Jing in her designer clothes; Xue Wei also let her a limited edition Hermes bag.

Tian Ming rescued Hua Hua from the wife of her lover who came to confront her because the erring husband had been stealing the wife’s designer brand accessories and giving them to Hua Hua.

It turned out that Wenjing was housekeeping for the young girlfriend of Tian Ming’s father.

Mouse became romantic and had given a beautiful big bunch of flowers and gift to Wenjing to celebrate their 100 days together.  When he kissed her cheek, she slapped him, which surprised them both.  Since Mouse was a lovely and easy-going guy, he brushed the incident aside.

Xu Wei after playing tennis with Mouse, Plug and TianMing that the bag which Wei Jing returned to her was fake.

Mouse said that Wei Jing would have not returned a fake bag.  He was shocked when he learned that the bag costs 200,000 RMB.

He started doubting Weijing when he came home to find that they were having lavish dinner of crabs which were really expensive.

Weijing did not tell him the the crabs were given to her by Tian Ming’s dad’s girlfriend.

Hua Hua’s parents had entered a television show where they could have their house decorated and modernised.  When Hua Hua got home, she found that the designer was the married lover she was trying to stay away from.

Episode 6

Mouse called his mum to borrow money from her.

His mum turned up and she was feisty.

Wen Jing finally remembered that she did leave the bag in the toilet for a while.

Tian Ming learned that Wenjing worked at his father’s house as a housekeeper.

Episode 7

Mouse’s mother was a busybody and told Mouse that she saw Wen Jing buying vegetables when she should be working in an office.

Wen Jing was trying to build bridge between Tian Ming and his father but Tian Ming was too upset with his father who criticised him all the time for giving up on jobs.

Poor Mouse was emotionally blackmailed by his mother to leave Shanghai with her for good after she found out that Wen Jing was just a maid.  So he broke up with Wen Jing.

Episode 8

Mouse drunkenly went to see Wen Jing. It was rather heartbreaking.

Wen Jing would not reconcile with him because as she said his mother would never ever approve of her.

Mouse asked piteously.”What can I do?”

Episode 9

Wenjing got a job selling wine.  But Tian Ming had to save her from her lecherous boss when she got invited for the evening to talk about her job but he had something else in his mind.

Tian Ming was to the rescue once again.  He got drunk with her boss and then she had to take him home and would not let her go so she ended up sleeping on his bedroom floor.

When she woke up, he was sleeping next to her on the floor but could not remember how he got there.  They are so cute.

But their romance has to be filed away for now because there is a new man in town.

Ye Hui, a friend of Xu Wei had just come from abroad and showed an immediate interest to Wenjing.

Episode 10

Wenjing got the most wine sale and she was being rewarded for it when she collapsed on the floor and taken to hospital.

When she returned to the company, she was fired because someone spread rumour that she was using an underhanded method to sell wine.

She knew immediately that the person who stabbed her at the back was Xiaojuan, who took her under her wing.

Anyway as Hua Hua was also unemployed, Tian Ming told them that the business to go for was e-commerce.

Wenjing however was desperate to go to college but it would cost 150,000 RMB for just remedial.

So she started attending school pretending to be a cleaner, a student, etc.

She got found out.

Episode 11

Hua Hua called Tian Ming to sort Wenjing out as she was arrested by the police.

Tian Ming sorted it out and Wenjing was cautioned by let go.

Tian Ming came face to face with a face from the past.

It was his ex-girlfriend who came back to America to try and make up with him.

He told her that he had a girl in his heart.

Ahhh Hua Hua’s parents’ house was looking lovely.  More modern.  It might be modern but her parent’s old tradition can’t changed.  They still keep empty biscuits tin boxes everywhere.

Episode 12

Tian Ming used a surprised Wenjing to pretend as his girlfriend..  He told his ex that Wenjing is his girlfriend.

Surprise! Surprise! Tian Ming had to bail out Wenjing from the police again because she was involved in a brawl in a club while trying to sell bottles of red wine.

Her mother was asking for more money.  They needed 8,000 RMB.  Poor Wenjing, her parents expect monies from her when they did not even allow her to finish high school.

Wenjing became very sad when she saw Tian Ming being hugged by his ex.
