1 June 2015 – Today is Marilyn’s birthday. She would have been 89 years old. Such is her iconic status that she is still remembered almost 53 years after her death.
Marilyn Monroe born Norma Jean Baker, was Hollywood sexiest star. Her star appeal, i.e. luminous presence and vulnerability, was what made her be adored by both men and women. This phenomena has never been equalled by any Hollywood star, even by the prettier ones.
Of course there are some who think of her as something of an air-head, because of her blonde hair and girlish countenance. But this is far from the truth, Marilyn was very witty and very shrewd.

The most famous Audrey Hepburn film, Breakfast in Tiffany was first offered to Marilyn Monroe. Truman Capote, the author of the 1958 novel was really disappointed that Marilyn turned down the role. Apparently playing Holly Golightly, being a lady of the night, would be a bad move for Marilyn as advised to her by her acting coach, Paula Strasberg.
When you’re famous you kind of run into human nature in a raw kind of way. It stirs up envy, fame does. People you run into feel that, well, who does she think she is, Marilyn Monroe? They feel fame gives them some kind of privilege to walk up to you and say anything to you, of any kind of nature — and it won’t hurt your feelings — like it’s happening to your clothes not you.
