Prince of Lan Ling (Chinese Drama Review & Summary)

This is a very sweet, full of intrigue historical romance with a beautiful cast. The chemistry between Feng shaofeng and Ariel Lin is electric but then again so was Ariel Lin and Daniel Chan.

The story itself is a fairy tale.  Actually the Prince of Lang Ling existed in real life.

It is about Gao Changgong. He is beautiful rather than handsome.  His prettiness is such that it is almost a woman’s kind of loveliness.

And this loveliness was noticed by Xue Wu, the last sorceress, who is still an apprentice when they first met.

The young Xue Wu came upon the bathing half-naked Gao Changgong when she was chasing a chicken out of the enchanted land.

She commented to Gao Changgong that ‘she’ was such a pretty miss.

After the misunderstanding was cleared. Xue Wu brought home surreptitiously the beautiful Gao Changgong to cure his lame horse.

In the Snow Mountain Village, the young sorceress lived with her grandmother, who was blinded for looking into the future.

She saw that troubled time is coming, where four men will shape the history of China (?)  Knowing that her granddaughter is fated to be in the thick of it, she became very protective and controlling over the granddaughter.

The grandmother was adamant that Xue Wu does not leave the enchanted village.

It was apparently in the oracle that the side which has the protection of the Heavenly Maiden (the last sorcerer) will be winning the war and there will be prosperity to the nation and its people.

Of course the young sorceress had to leave the village and meet Gao Changgong again.

Their love story though very sweet also had to overcome several upheavals.  In addition, there was also Yuwen Yong, who fell in love with the young sorceress, who became known as the Heavenly Maiden.

Gao Changgong loved Xue We very much but he loved his people more.  However Yuwen Yong, the handsome emperor, also loved Xue We.  He loved her so much, he loved her more than his people.

Despite Yuwen Yong rescuing her so many times, Xue We had already given her heart to Gao Changgong, who is the Prince of Lan Ling, almost from the first time they met.

But the person really that loved her the most was a young man called Xiaodong.  He gave his love for her unconditionally and sacrificed himself for her.

I think this is now my favourite historical love story.  It has just the right amount of romance, spiced with some tearjerkers and ended in a very Shakespearean tragedy.

Do not be put off with the sad ending because the beginning to almost end was generously plumped with romantic interludes.
