Having fallen in love with Feng Shao Feng in Prince of Lan Ling, I had a look at his work catalogue and this drama seems deliciously romantic.  Hope it has a happy ending!

Feng Shao Feng plays Lucas & Wu Julan, the merman.

Once upon a time, a merman (in human form) became good friends with a human (great grandfather of Shen Lao)  But because of greed, the great grandfather betrayed Lucas the merman.  He sold out the merman, whose spirit pearl was taken away.  Lucas has now had to spend his life looking for the spirit pearl.

In the meantime, he developed a cult that helps to look for the whereabouts of the spirit pearl.

Apparently, the great grandfather double-crossed his buyer.  He took both the money as well as the spirit pearl back.

To make up for what he did to his merman friend, he created the annual merman festival.  The cult was able to pinpoint that the spirit pearl must be with the heir of the great grandfather.  And that was Shen Lao.

With Lucas, there was another faction, which was after the pearl.  The Black Wizard believed that the spirit pearl can bring back to life his beloved adopted father.

To be closed to Shen Lao, Lucas became Wu Julan, someone without a past.

The scatty but kind-hearted Shen Lao allowed Wu Julan to stay with her at her house.  Despite Wu Julan looking for the spirit pearl in every nook and cranny of the house, he can’t find the pearl.  But the longer he stayed with Shen Lao the more he fell in love with her.

In the end, he found out that the spirit pearl was actually within Shen Lao.  And to take it away from her would mean the end of her life.

At this time Shen Lao had also fallen deeply in love with Wu Julan whose life is getting shorter and shorter without his spirit pearl.

A kiss from a woman who loved him with all her heart would release the spirit pearl and makes Wu Julan live forever,

On their wedding day, Shen Luo tricked Wu Julan and kissed him.  She dies but he lives.
