Episode 1
It has a pretty strong first episode.
It started in May 1975 in an amusement park. Song Ha Young was with his mother on a pedal boat when they crashed with another vessel manned by rather exuberant cadets.
Poor Ha Young was knocked over into the water where he saw a floating dead woman in a red dress.
He might have seen the killer who was in a crowd while the woman was being taken away by an ambulance.
It jumped to March 1998.
There was a stakeout for a sex offender who had raped and killed 12 women over a 10 month period.
Undercover policemen were complaining about being dressed in drags during a wintry night.
At this point, Ha Young is now a policeman and he spotted a man wearing a red cap who was trying to break into a house.
To all intent and purposes, they got their serial killer, the Red Cap rapist.
But he was only a copy cat because the real one was attacking another woman.
Hwa Yeon was being followed by the Red Cap man but she got home safely as her mother was waiting for her with dinner and side dishes.
Her mother declined to stay the night so Hwa Yeon was left alone. While she was about to make ramyeon, someone held her from behind.
It was Bang Ki Hong, her boyfriend. But they ended up having an argument because she wanted him to stay the night but he said he has a job.
She tactlessly said that it was only a blow-up eatery tent anyway, he could take the night off.
Bang Ki Hong took umbrage with what she said about his job being a blow up tent. He was going to hit her but he hit the wall just by her head.
A few hours later, she was dead, naked, and strangled.
Bang Ki Hong was arrested immediately. He looked shocked when he found out that his girlfriend was dead and even more upset when he learned that she was 14 weeks pregnant.
Bang Ki Hong went to the same school as Ha Young.
Ha Young started investigating the case as he thinks that Bang Ki Hong might have not down the murder. He found some surprising evidence which their captain did not appreciate.
Because he had already beaten Bang Ki Hong to confess. Bang Ki Hong got 12 years in prison, and the case was closed.
Kook Young Soo was a profiler who saw potential on Ha Young as a profiler as he has the sensibility so he tried to recruit him. He wanted Ha Young to be part of his team.
Ha Young declined saying that he was happy where he was.
1999
The Red Cap killer strike again. He was Kang Moo a take away delivery guy.
Episode 2
Song Ha Young was convinced that Bang Ki Hong was innocent. He asked his Captain to reopen the case and to look at it again.
He had always remembered that when the real Red Cap Killer, Yang Yong Chul, who was now in prison saw Bang Ki Yong being interviewed at the police station, he told the police that Bang Ki Hong was not the killer.
Bang Ki Hong ended up in prison because he was beaten to confession.
The Captain was reluctant to open the case but Song Ha Young was insistent and did a thorough investigation.
It so happened that a young guy was brought to the police station by a muscular guy with his pregnant girlfriend. They said that Kang Moo, the guy, tried to enter their apartment by using a pair of scissors.
This interested Song Ha Young who ended up interviewing Kang Mo who was not 18 years old yet so still a minor.
Song Ha Young had been in contact with Yang Yong Chul, the Red Hat Killer, who gave him some important information on the behavior of a serial offender/killer. He said that once a killer had done it, he would develop a taste for it fairly quickly. They also have a parental problem growing up and they sort of follow a strict agenda.
Anyway, Song Ha Young bear this in mind and was able to make Kang Mo confess fairly easily. He was arrested and Bang Ki Hong was finally let out of prison.
The press went mental with the turn of event and blamed the police for incompetence and that it was not them who solved the case but a prisoner.
Meanwhile, a damage control, the police have started a new unit for profiling, and Song Ha Young was the first recruit.
The episode ended with a child being seduced with ice cream by a man. He led her to a house then a scream was heard.
Episode 3
The Criminal Behavioural Analysis Unit had been created in the basement storage room of the police station.
The team is made up of Song Ha Young, Captain Kook Young Soo and Jung Woo Joo as statistic analysts.
Their first subject is a man who chopped his victim.
Meanwhile, a family had reported their missing daughter and they were going mental as it has been a week and they had not heard anything.
A woman junk collector was shocked to find bits of bodies in plastic bags. It was that of the missing child.
The case was child dismemberment.
The Special Crime Unit headed by a woman captain was very dismissive and uncooperative of the new unit and refused to share their intel with them.
But the teams reconciled in the end because Song Ha Young gave Yoon Tae Goo the respect of her position as captain of the Special Crime Unit.
They found the place where the child was murdered.
Episode 4
The combined team found out where the child was murdered but they were still looking for the killer.
Also, they found 8 decomposing fingers but have yet to find the other two. The behavioral team concluded that the perpetrator had lost his two fingers.
Captain Yoon Tae Goo and Nam Il Young caught the murderer.
During the interview he said that he did not mean to kill the girl, he wanted to ransom her.
The next case is a cold case serial killing.
Someone almost stabbed a drunk Kook Young Soo but when he heard that Kook Young Soo was a policeman the person stopped and took Young Soo’s ID instead.
Episode 5
Behavioral Analysis was renewed for a year, and another and another until it was now 2003.
The man who took found Yoon Tae Goo’s ID had just killed an elderly couple in their home.
He then killed three more and then another one.
Episode 6
Still the killer proved wily and hard to catch.
It became harder when he had plastic surgery and changed his face completely.
Episode 7
The serial killer was attacking again but with different victims. His victims were now young ladies.
But then the killer learned that his last victim survived which made him nervous.
Kim Bong Shik had been releasing information to a reporter for money. He is such a nasty character.
There was a very thrilling, if rather worrying, scene where a woman was stabbed by the new look serial killer. At first, it looked like the victim was Song Ha Young’s mother.
Episode 8
Thank goodness, Song Ha Young’s mother is ok. Wrong victim.
Anyway, they caught the serial killer and he did them that he had more victims which he buried by the mountains.
The bodies were dug up which shocked the police to the core.
Episode 9
They knew that they are still hunting for another serial killer. The police realised that the killings were happening across borders and yet they are unaware of it as they don’t share intel with other counties.
Kim Bong Sik finally got his comeuppance for his corruption and was dismissed from the force.
The other serial killer was becoming more prolific and commits murder in the street on broad daylight.
Song Ha Young is greatly affected by the work that he had started behaving erratically. He would carry a knife and imagine how the killer gets his victims. His weirdness was reported to the police by a witness.
Episode 10
Nam Ki Tae was finally caught when he went into a house and attack a male guy. The father of the guy woke up and between him and his son they were able to overcome the killer.
