Episode 1
I really like the first episode. It is fun and light, a typical idol drama that you could sink your teeth into quite happily.
I must say Tian Xi Wei is a revelation and she has a good chemistry with Joseph Zeng.
Anyway, Lian Maner was a college student who seemed to be low on the pecking order as far as her family expenses in concerned because when she called her mother to ask for money for her tuition fee, her mother prevaricated and gave so many mundane reasons not to send her the money.
So Lian Maner had to find the money herself and one way was to be a game tester. So she started testing VR Games by a company called Miracle.
The first test was unsuccessful and stressed her so much because in the game she was almost burnt alive as a sacrifice companion to a dead husband.
When she came to, the game master told her that their was a glitch in the system. She had to try again.
Lian Maner said that she wanted a game located in a farm as it was in her bucket list.
The game started. Lian Maner was indeed ended up in a farm. She it the daughter of the third son of the Lian family ruled by a termagant grandma and an officious grandpa.
Lian Maner’s own parents are bullied and control by the family.
Anyway, a very unusual thing happened. Grandma opened her sacred locked kitchen cupboard and took out her prized pork belly.
Everyone was sallivating looking at the meat but Lian Maner was dismissive that it was only meat.
Then the reason came out why a long strip of belly was brought out. The urbanite first son and his family is coming to visoit.
The first son is a failed scholar, very sneaky but a favourite of his parents being the first born as well as becoming almost a scholar.
Anyway, they came because they secretly sold Lian Maner in marriage to the Sun family.
When Lian Maner found out about her marriage, she absolutely refused it and even went so far as to jump into the well. but her mother managed to hold on to her and rescue her.
Her mother then told her to run away and stay with her brother.
Lian Maner could not wait to go because she knew if she married into the Sun family she will be burnt in the stake as she found out during the first game she tested.
While she was trudging int he forest in the dead of the night with only Yellow the dog for company, she came across a guy who was badly injured. She tried to help him at first but she thought she needed to get away so leave him but the game kept defaulting to the guy and then she got a game message that she needed to save the guy as he was a main character in the game.
So she saved him. They later agreed to help each other. The guy was running away from government officials and keeping his down low in the farm might be good for a while.
So they maid a plan.
The next morning at the Lian farm, Maner pretended that she had just woken up from all the commotion the family was making. Her mother was suprised that Maner was back.
The matchmaker had arrived to initiate the stages of the wedding but then the guy, Shen Nuo, turned up with a baby looking for his wife, Maner, the mother of his baby.
Episode 2
Their ruse worked for a while but when Shen Nuo asked by Maner’s mother to marry Maner, Shen Nuo was not enthusiastic. Instead he told Madame Zhang to pretend instead that he is her distant nephew.
Madame Zhang agreed to his suggestion but warned him that they will maltreat him for being her relative.
She need not have worried because Shen Nuo had Grandpa and Grandma eating out of his hand.
Grandpa had a heart to heart talk with his first son and asked him if he sold Maner to the Sun for 500 Tael as a burning bride.
The first son pretended to be shocked. He assured his father that he wanted Maner to marry the Sun son who was respectable and affluent. It would be good for Maner.
The First Madam overheard Mr Sun talking to the matchmaker. As he had paid good money in good faith, he expect a bride for his dead son. So as Maner is no longer available, then Lian Hua Er should take her place.
The First Madam barged in and assured Mr Sun than Maner is a virgin and he could ask midwives to confirm it.
Maner was kidnapped and was tied to a post ready for burning. Shen Nuo turned up.
Episode 3
Retaliation

Hua Er signed the debt promisory contract with Mr Jin’s private bank.
Episode 5
It was harvest time. Everyone was helping with reaping the rice except for Shouren, his wife and daughter. Also the spoilt but gullible, Lian Xui’er. The youngest and only daughter of Grandma & Grandpa Lian.
Episode 6
More than ever, Maner saw how weak her father was.
During a family meeting, Grandpa Hua ordered that Madame Zhang should hand over her child if it was a boy to Shouren.
Apparently, as Hua Er will be leaving the family soon, Shouren will have to son to rely on.
Maner looked at her mother who was appalled but as always her father was meek.
Maner said that they will not be giving away the baby because they were splitting from the family. They will go their own way.
Again, her father would not back her up. He said later to Maner to mind her manners. They belong to the Hua family and they support each other.
Meanwhile, Shouren’s wife was in bits. She does not want to look after someone else’s baby.
The next day, Maner’s mother had an almost fatal accident. She tripped badly causing her to miscarry her baby.
Shen No and Wang Youheng knew that there was something fishy about the whole thing. After their investigation, they found out the truth.
Though instigation from Hua Er, Xiu Er put a rock on the path to the field that would trip Madame Zhang for sure.
Episode 7
Hua Er and Xiu Er were found out but as Hua Er was about to marry into the influential Song Family, it was decided that they can’t punish her too much that might leave a mark. So Grandpa just told the girls to self examine themselves in their room.
Finally, Maner’s father spoke but then he stopped. So it was left to Maner to exact her revenge.
She ambushed Hua Er by putting a sack over Hua Er’s head and beat her with a stick.
Anyway, finally Madame Zhang asked her husband to move the family to another place. Her husband immediately had so many reasons to stay which annoyed Maner.
She told her mother that she will find the money and will support the family.
For a starter, she made garlic peanuts to sell.
Episode 8
Shen Nuo said that he had an idea how Maner’s family could split from their family clan. You Heng would pretend that Madame Zhang would need expensive medicinal herbs for at least 6 years.
When Grandma heard about the expense, she told her son to divorce Madame Zhang.
Finally, Lian Shouxin declared that he wanted to split from the family as he could not possibly abandon his wife no matter what.
Maner finally found a new respect for her father.
Episode 9
Maner wrote to her maternal grandparents who were from the grassland.
The Zhang Family came in droves and took charge of a fair separation of families. They built a wall separating Maner’s family to Grandpa and Grandma’s household.
Grandma Lin was raging because many were taken from the house including half of the pork belly she treasures.
Episode 10
The Zhangs had to leave as winter was coming.
Anyway, Grandma was so envious of the new situation of Maner’s family. She tried to break the brick wall but Maner woke up and tried to put the wall back together.
Shen Nuo found her in the middle of it and told her a better deterrent for tresspassers. He planted thorny bushes next to the wall.
Anyway, peace at Maner’s more compact household was not without upheaval. They found out that they had to pay high tax for their new land. The soldiers wanted the money or equivalent immediately so Maner’s family had to give up their livestock.
Then they were fined for not having a business licence for their garlic peanut.

Episode 26.5
There is a 1.12 minutes epilogue. Maner is back in the present time. At school she saw a photo of Shen Nuo on the bulletin board.
Maner was excitedly confused but then someone called her name. Then there was boy in school uniform with Shen Nuo’s name tag. He then handed her a women horse, just like what he used to do in ancient times.
Maner looked at him and smiled beguilingly.
This drama has grown on me.
